I'm really enjoying Lost Sirens. There are some songs on this release that are preferable to what was released on WFTSC.

That said, I came into this release willing to listen to the songs on their own merit versus what I thought they should be.
To paraphrase someone else on here- Barney is definitely on top of his vocal game.

Loving the songs. Wished these songs have been released prior to the US tour. Would have told Barney how I feel!

'Turn' and 'Waiting for the Sirens' Call' really fit the mood of Lost Sirens. As a bridge between the two records, they should have included an alternative version (not a remix) of 'Waiting for the Sirens' Call', rather than the tedious 'I Told You So', which is completely off the mark here, sound wise.

I've listened to it several times today and it is ... underwhelming as is. poorly sequenced, and not helped by the abundance of mid-paced songs in the middle that make the album drag. I spliced in some of the Control tracks and padded out to 11 songs/43m.41s.

1. Hypnosis (edited speech at beginning/end)
2. I'll Stay With You
3. Shake It Up
4. I've Got A Feeling
5. Hellbent
6. Get Out (edited shouting at beginning)
7. Californian Grass
8. Recoil
9. Sugarcane
10. I Told You So
11. Exit

Some of the mixes seem a little unfinished and the song titles are a little obvious - I'd say 95% done - but perhaps occasionally a bar or two too long and / or fading instead of a proper finish, and probably the least satisfactory LP-length product since the Factus 8 1981-82 EP, but still, worth our time and attentiona nd I am glad it is finally out.

Sugarcane and Shake It Up are the weakest tracks for me. Sugarcane is just mundane and workaday, nothing lifts it up above the everyday. Shake It Up is in the same league as Rock The Shack - just a brainless moronic ditty.

I've Got A Feeling was initially my least favourite track but now it's the 2nd strongest for me after Californian Grass. Can well imagine it going down well live, actually.

I guess these are my Best Sirens:

1. Who's Joe (perfect intro song, really)
2. Waiting For The Sirens' Call
3. Sugarcane
4. I'll Stay With You
5. Morning Night And Day
6. Hey Now What You Doing (with another name)
7. Californian Grass
8. Hellbent
9. I've Got A Feeling
10. Krafty
11. Turn
(Bonus)12. Jetstream (Arthur Baker Remix)

Now that's a fine record, isn't it? Big Grin

Very disappointing isn't it ?

These would have been lost for good.

Very poor production, artistically empty, not finished work.
It's not a record, it's Just a collection of poor demos, not the level of these famous boys.

Finally, the bad lieutenant's record was more interesting and sounds a good one compare to that... thing ???

Just to release that to get some more money from the good fans is definitively the wrongest way to stay.
Shame on the management, the label and the band.

NCAT is a lot better than Lost Sirens IMO; NCAT was 80% great; Lost is about 60% great.

Listened to it twice and I like it, though I had pretty low expectations. 'Recoil' is the weakest for me as I can't remember a damn thing about it other then it's mellow.

Quite a few more 'hey you! get yer act together!'-type songs which personally I like.

Also agree that a lot of these songs are better then some tracks on WFTSC. It just hit me that album came out eight freaking years ago! Eek

The Seventh Seal reference is interesting as it's one of Bergman's most famous films - like Cries And Whispers, sound familar? As a Bergman bore I'd be interested to know if the band are into his work. Personally I doubt it as I once read they used to take film names ad hoc e.g. Thieves Like Us... But if Bergman were still alive and got New Order to soundtrack a film of Melanie C naked I'd be rather happy. Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to hearing these songs. Glad to hear they're close to Turn and WFTSC as these are my fave original tracks along with Who's Joe. From these comments I get the impression they used the more radio-friendly songs for WFTSC...?

I'm surprised that Brian Higgins/Xenomania don't get one single mention. Were those tracks scrapped, or are some of the above (or tracks on WFTSC) re-recordings of them?

Was thinking the same thing. Someone mentioned Yes by PSB which I'm sure that Higgins/Xenomania produced and certainly had some writing credits (good album I thought, much better than the latest which I found just dull.) I assumed Sugarcane was from the same stable listening to it but clearly not.

When i first heard Sugarcane I figured its ultra poppy production must have involved Higgins. I thought it might be a bit of irony if a song about fame-hungry celebs was produced by Girls Aloud's producer. But no. However, our Mr Monkhouse may like to know that Swedish producer Tore Johansson who did work on the track has also worked with...Melanie C.
