Ha ha! That actually reminds me of when we were at middle school and my brother who was in the year above me had a board rubber chucked at his head by a teacher and which actually connected. Not only that the teacher Mr Parry then proceeded to drag my brother to the front of the class, wrestle him to the floor and then, unbelievably, kicked him in the head! And the teacher wasn't even sacked. Shocking. You'd hope in this day and age any teacher would be sacked on the spot for kicking a pupil in the head

Do people think spelling doesn't matter anymore?

A friend recently gained a qualification in English teaching as he would like to get work teaching English abroad when he's travelling. However his English spelling, grammar and punctuation ( my punctuation and grammar aren't always the greatest but i'd say they're better than his) whenever he emails me and others is awful. I don't know if he just can't be bothered when it comes to writing English or what.

someone i trained with teaches english at a secondary school in town. not a week goes by that she doesn't post a facebook status riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes. not typos. now that DOES make me cross. recently she referred to her hamster as a new "edition" to the family. let's burn her.

(incidentally, far, FAR worse than making spelling/grammar/punctuation errors is publicly correcting them on a social network. that really is outrageously rude/smug/pedantic/idiotic/fucking annoying.)

Cracking documentary about Rasputin . I remember watching this on Channel 4 about 10 years ago and it's possibly the most well made documentary I've ever seen. Really eerie. I'd previously only been aware of him through the Boney M song and the album cover for Electronic's Twisted Tenderness

A strange afternoon in the pub, very odd and unsettling. Anyway , moving on - Outro by M83 is just used on bloody everything these days isn't it? Getting very cliched using that track to "climax " tv programmes . Latest guilty party is Africa on BBC1

So going by the above examples lose should really be spelt loose.

I see your point.

I'd only just got over my relief at Arctic frickin Monkeys NOT making no 1 when that joy was dashed by the unfathomable Coldplay win.Got bored of that Elbow song years ago also.

Highlight for me was Johnny Cash 'Hurt' making the top 10.

same. it's a lovely song and i loved it for a long time (helped in no small part by watching the sun set over their stage at latitude as the whole crowd sang along with them), but it's been killed by overplay. Frown
