Sometimes I get frustrated with interviewers when they don't follow up obvious points of interest (to me!).
Steve talks about being grateful for walkmans - he is effectively saying: it's just as well bootleggers smuggled tape recorders into our gigs.
Huw Stephens asks him what his sources are (video, fans, DATs), but when Steve says he's listening to lots of cassette tapes, Huw S doesn't ask where (from whom) he sourced those cassettes.

More importantly, Huw Stephens spent enough time asking about a book that neither of them wrote, and that he hadn't himself read (the Women at Factory Records book), but didn't grasp the opportuity to say to Steve: "Oh, 'difficult' third book? What's that about Steve?" SUCH an obvious question!!!

Indeed, perspex. Not sure a book about the NO era 2007 up to present times would make a great book. That's why i'm curious what he would write about.Like you posted, maybe a book about tech or tanks?

Anyway, wasn't it revealed some time back Gillian is to write her side of the story? Would be very interested to read that. Wonder if she made any start or progress on it.

Yes i hear what you're saying Debaser about interviewers and Huw Stephens' failure to ask further about one or two things in today's interview.

Agreed with both of you regarding the lack of follow up questions. Very frustrating.

Yep - I'd be really interested to read Gillian's book. Again, the interviewer could've asked her if she had ever thought about writing a book herself (even if he dint know that there was a rumour that she was writing one).

Another other obvious question would've been "Oh, an expanded 'Substance'? Care to divulge any details about this? Any idea when this will be out?" etc.

Very much a missed opportunity.

Is this the beginning of the end? Is anyone going? No new material in 8 years, samey setlists etc. Maybe get Rick Astley in and give Ber'nard a rest.

No way!

Ber'nard will never:

Give you up
Let you down
Run around
Desert you
Make you cry
Say goodbye
Tell a lie
Hurt you
All of the above.

Blossoms + Rick Astley doing an hours' worth of The Smiths at Glastonbury last month was great.
I think it's still on iPlayer for another couple of days (for those in the UK).

I'd never heard Rick Astley swear before. Ironically he was probably more 'himself' singing The Smiths songs than he ever has been singing his own dross.

I've seen photos of the 2 "new" lads doing Quo like dual guitar posing. Anyone confirm if it's as bad in real life for armchair moaners like me.

From above, songs I dont want to hear (or see on the setlist) not to be taken too seriously.

"Back in the day", other members might have called out their rockstar posturing. I think it's more accepted now as long as it's not choreographed or too excessive.

Regarding those songs: I tend to agree except for "Sub-Culture" and "Decades". But really just appreciate "Decades" because it's not "Atmosphere", "Transmission" or "Love Will Tear Us Apart" yet again.

I’m quite surprised that Ceremony has been played every night.
For a number of years, it always seemed to be sporadic. Like a bit of a treat.

I’m not complaining though. I could never get sick cf that song.

No songs have been played only 4 times now, so essentially the top 16 songs are pretty much dead certs and the bottom 13 songs are in the rotation pool. I'm going to guess that we won't see any more "new" entries to the tour song pool in Leeds, but who can say

I realise that Bernard has made comments before along the lines of "the fans aren't always right", and the fact that Shake It Up got played seems to compound the notion that, to some extent, they play what they want but...

No Singularity?

FWIW The Slicing Up Eyeballs poll several years back had Singularity as the highest ranked NO track from MC (Yeah, Bernard won't care...).
It was also a single, with a music video and some decent remixes (including one from a forumite here, incidentally).
But it hasn't been played once on this tour.

Was Plastic a single? No. It received a pretty lacklustre reception as far as I could tell at the O2 Arena. Maybe alternate those two? Just a thought.

An I right in thinking that Singularity was also the first "new" MC track that they played (before the album came out)? I'd much rather hear that than Plastic too

Oh and I had a thought on Shake It Up as a weird choice. Maybe it was originally Phil's song and he pushed to give it a live outing? It certainly has that rockist guitar lick as the main hook, which he looked like he was enjoying

I believe so:

Singularity 30/03/14 Santiago, Chile
Plastic 01/07/14 Chicago, USA

I think the other MC tracks weren't played live until after the LP came out.

That's correct. At the 2014 gig in San Francisco, we were treated to "Singularity" and "Plastic" (also a unique performance of the song "San Francisco"). They've been setlist mainstays for nearly a decade, but I'm surprised "Singularity" was the one they dropped (the guitar) first.

I wish they would give it a go. I could see how people unfamiliar with it might consider it a downer/lull in the set. But I think it's an excellent song and fairly unique in their repertoire.

As I've mentioned before, "Unlearn this Hatred" seems a more likely candidate (and crowd pleaser). I think it's a superior track compared to "Guilt is a Useless Emotion" (and certainly "Shake it Up") if they're looking to pop a relatively recent, upbeat banger into the set. And surely the fact that it's from the current lineup must help its chances. I'm perplexed that "The Game" was chosen to air live before either of these Music Complete tracks.

I guess it has the fairly prominent female backing vocals and strings plus it's yet another one with prolonged 16ths on the hi-hats for Mr Morris (not that he seems to struggle!)

On the plus side, there isn't much sequenced keyboard on it and it's a great bass line for Tom that is very un-Hooky like

Still the one I listen to most off MC - and never understood why so many people are down on it

Happy to see more support for "Nothing but a Fool". The backing vocals don't seem to be an issue when you consider how often they've played "Tutti Frutti". That's a fun dance track. But I wish they'd leave it off the setlists unless someone shows up in person to do the co-lead vocal parts.
