F*#king O2 again. I guess NO have reached legacy/legend status now, and quite franky I wish they hadn't.
I miss the days of Brixton Acedmy in terms of both price and venue size. Not gonna rush to this. I don't know if I'll ever see them again if this is their "level" now. Maybe if they announce a farewell tour...

I managed to Shazam songs in their Glastonbury performance (BBC) on several occasions last year. Live shouldn't be easily shazam-able.
I realise that "dance"/electronic acts are more likely to use backing 'tapes'/hard drives etc, but these guys act as though they're playing live when half the time not even their vocals are live.

When the female vocals kick in...you can Shazam it.

Do I sound a bit grumpy?

Here's an official NO social media thingy. It looks nice doesn' it? Smile

Looks like they've taken inspiration from the EU flag for that. So all the Brexiteers can f*#k off. Innit!

I have to admit that the choice of Glasgow venue isn’t great but then I’ve seen them at the secc as well and that was just a big boxy hall

Yeah i get what you're saying but i don't view Confidence Man as an act to be taken too seriously. They're just a great night, great party by from what i've seen clips of and read. And i'll have no bad words said against the truly fabulous Janet Planet, do you hear me?! No

Anyone got a clue how to get in on the pre sale - for Leeds specifically? I’ve heard a rumour it will be through “Three+” so I got access to that but can’t see anything suggesting it will have something come a hour’s time.

I’m obviously at the grumpy old man stage in life and had to look up the support. Found the studio version of one track and then the Glastonbury “live” version. Prett much indistinguishable. Aqua did it better with Barbie Girl

Those prices aren't dynamic priced...if they was they'd rocket up in price if they was selling

I've started taking my teenage daughter to gigs that she wants to go too and last year was looking at one and it was £200 standing....i apologized and said no way am i paying that and to put it into perspective look at the price of a leeds festival day ticket...which she did and thankfully agreed to go there...that was an experience but that's another storyBig Grin

Not long later i was looking at arcade fire tickets on release day and the price was shocking on ticketmaster...but ok on seetickets which i couldn't understand

A few weeks later the springsteen business hit the news so that's when it clicked what was happening with the tickets my daugher wanted and the arcade fire....at the moment only ticketmaster use the dynamic pricing so try to steer clear of them if you can...and its up to the artist if they let them use it as i asked paul heaton on twitter as he sets his tickets at £30 and he explained it to me!

So them prices are face valueEek

Sorry for the ramble

I just double checked what I paid for the recent gig in New Orleans. $112 all in. That's about £90 at the current exchange rate. Not too far off, but the Orpheum in New Orleans isn't some big arena, it's a theatre with a capacity of less than 2000. So I think you have a right to grumble.

...but then again, I paid $324 for an ok seat at a Depeche Mode gig in San Jose a week later. So things could be much worse.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have Robert Smith's efforts to keep prices for The Cure gigs down. They're charging extra high prices for the first few rows of the venues (people would pay too much for these in the secondary market anyway) to subsidize lower prices for the rest. This is overall for the better, but does create a downside that more people aren't priced out, so there's more competition for the tickets.

I was on the fence about seeing them, but a friend was getting tickets and invited me to join. Unfortunately, he could only score General Admission ones for the lawn at the back of the Shoreline Amphitheatre. I decided to pass (and he wasn't thrilled either). He then bought tickets to a show they added up in Portland, Oregon, but I don't feel compelled to make that one.

I replied to one of the (several) facbook posts by NO plugging these gigs, saying I wouldn't pay the prices.
Soneone said to me "I suspect you won’t be going to many major events then".

Here's the thing. It's a gig, not the fooking Olympics.

When I saw NO play Brixton Acedemy in 2001, 2005, 2012 and 2015 (hope I've got those years right) they were just gigs. And tickets cost me somewhere between about £28 and £40 per ticket over those years. It was a gig and it was fine. Maybe better than fine.

Just because it's at an arena and costs shitloads of £££ doesn't suddenly make it a "major event". It's a gig that costs more, where you're more likely to be miles away from the band. Whoop de doo!

If people would refuse to pay these prices then promoters/ticket agencies/artists/whoever wouldn't be able to charge them.
I guess I can't tell other people what to do. But within the past ten years I remember a band (maybe the arctic monkeys, maybe someone else, it doesnt really matter) railing against ticket touts and saying: "we wouldn't pay over £60 a ticket to see us, don't give in to the touts".
Now the official prices are up to the level we used to associate with unscrupulous touts. And I ain't playing that game. 'Smaller' bands (or relatively cheap festival tickets) it is for me from now on.

Yes, there's a huge gulf between big Ticketmaster concerts and gigs in clubs and theatres, even in an expensive city like San Francisco. I just bought tickets to see Nation of Language at The Independent there. $27.50, out-the-door. Once this band graduate to slightly larger venues, Ticketmaster (or another similar service) will step in and prices will jump to $60, minimum.

I just don't have the enthusiasm to catch them live anymore. I've seen them umpteen times over the years and can't justify paying £75+ now for a ticket and then travel and accomadation costs. The last time i saw them, at Bluedot 2019 i was just bored with it all and the relentless clapping & hundreds of folks with their phone cameras in the air. And i got the vibe that night that all NO are interested in now is gigging, no desire to record and release new music.

I'd rather pay around £40 and catch other artists and bands i've never previously seen. I saw Spiritualized finally for the first time last year, had been a fan for years and it was an incredible concert.

I'll still buy anything new NO release but that seems increasingly unlikely despite vague mentions they make of working on new stuff.

I can't bring myself to buy a ticket....i keep putting them in the basket and not going through with it

I can't put my finger on why but it's a mixture of price, don't like arenas, joy division encore...they seem to have been doing the same show since MC came out...intro/visuals etc

Not that i haven't enjoyed it every time i've seen it though because i have...but it seems a long time from liverpool olympia to heaton park (didn't bother with the 02)

I think i'll see if anything changes when the tour starts and if it's changed enough i'll get a ticket on twickets or see/ticketmaster resale

Agreed. It will be a total rave up with Confidence Man - a smart support choice but will be full on lazers, strobes etc. I'll stay at home and moan about the setlists as they come in lol. And how is 3 dates a UK Tour?

Been on holiday, checked my emails when I got home and see NewOrder have announced some uk dates. Fairly excited then saw the venues they are playing, proper sad face :(. Really don’t like those large corporate venues, my least favourite new order concert from recent times was 02 in London.

I agree with Fotz not sure if the price is worth it at such impersonal venues, especially without any new material. For the first time in ages May give this one a miss. I did check out the Leeds venue but seating only? Is this correct? Seems strange.

Anyway saw Hooky last week at Manchester Albert hall doing closer and PC&L. Great venue, about 2000 people going mad doing 2 of the greatest albums of all time with an encore of Hurt, EGG, TEMPTATION, BM and a storming version of LWTUA. One of my favourites venues. Wish new order would do 5 nights at a venue like this.

Unlikely I will go to one of these UK dates but then I panic thinking this may be last chance of seeing them due to age of band so could still be tempted.

The gigs after no Hook started so well playing interesting venues with about 5000 capacity. Great one offs such as Jodrell Bank. Then got a new album, band on fire again and seem to be really enjoying themselves. Then we got MIF lots of old tracks done in an interesting way with keyboard orchestra in Granada studios. After that saw them at Alexandra Palace large venue but great performance. Seems to have a bit stale since although I did enjoy Heaton park after COVID.

I can understand why they do a few large venues rather than lots of smaller ones, but…….Still the best band ever but first time I’ve not gone and rushed to get tickets.

Like fotz said May use money to see lots of new bands, just bought Nation of language tickets rescue room notts, looking at dot to dot also in Notts. Off to see Panda Bear with sonic boom (ex spacemen 3) in Manchester next week all for a fraction of the price

Also seen spiritualized lots of time and they usually don’t disappoint in the blowing of minds

You post rather a lot here for someone so disinterested.

My tickets are booked for the largest venue they've ever played in Ireland. If it turns out to be the same show I saw in Heaton Park two years ago - great, I particularly enjoyed hearing Vanishing Point. Although the Manchester-is-brilliant intro would be a tad odd played in a trainshed in Dublin.

Tickets were dear enough, but PSB earlier in the year in the same venue are dearer.

Actually I'm happy to go back to... 2015 when they were playing Brixton Academy for £40 a (standing) ticket. And had a new album.
What have they done since then to EARN the right to play enormo-domes and charge £75+ a ticket? Released "Be A Rebel"? Do me a favour!

There's one born every minute. There will always be people who will justify the price etc and say "its quite reasonable, I'll pay". Congrats on having lots of disposable income. What are they grossing, £1m per gig?

I would suggest the people packing out the O2 arena on the forthcoming tour are actually the ones reliving their youth and/or the '80s. Most of them (50% anyway) probably weren't at Brixton in 2001 or 2005 (or even 2015) when NO were promoting current abums. And numerically they can't have been, because they wouldn't have fitted in the venue!

A new album might encourage me to see them again, but just gigging for the £££ when not much has changed since Ally Pally 2018 seems cynical. Feel free to fall for it! I'm sure the NO multimillionaires will be grateful for the pension money.

I agree with Fotz not sure if the price is worth it at such impersonal venues, especially without any new material. For the first time in ages May give this one a miss. I did check out the Leeds venue but seating only? Is this correct? Seems strange.

Unlikely I will go to one of these UK dates but then I panic thinking this may be last chance of seeing them due to age of band so could still be tempted.

They still have standing tickets for leeds on seetickets £65 plus fees

Its funny you should say you may start thinking it'll be the last chance as that's what i always say to my mrs everytime they announce gigs....and its what she said to me when i said i wasn't going

Anyway i panicked and bought standing tickets...the standing section at leeds arena is actually very small so i've justified buying them by telling myself i'll block out that i'm in an arenaBig Grin
