Although I really like this version of Sub-Culture, I'm not keen on the fast edits of the video.

I'm hoping that the rest of the video isn't quite as choppy.

For those that haven't actually gone into YouTube to watch this, it says:

"New Order perform 'Sub-Culture' live from Alexandra Palace in 2018. The full concert will be released on multiple formats in April 2021."

Multiple formats, eh? Hmm. DVD, BD, digital. Possibly a special edition with the 'Decades' documentary.
Also, as hinted at previously, maybe a CD+BD / CD+DVD combo.

Day One purchase for me, anyway. Obvs.

https://www.superdeluxee...ive-at-alexandra-palace/

https://store.neworder.com

Available in multiple formats including 2CDs, vinyl, BD and with T-Shirts, badges and art prints.

There's also a super-deluxe box for £120, including a 48 page book.
You can also 'super-size it' with the apparel if you want to part with £170.

I think the 2CD/BD combo will do for me, but I might be tempted with a T-Shirt.

I can see why there's no DVD release. To be fair, it's a pretty old format nowadays.

It kind of makes sense having DVDs in the 'Definitive Editions' of the studio LPs, as the archive footage contained within isn't going to be in pristine HD quality.

But a modern concert film like this; I think it's best to show it in all it's glory. You have to draw the line somewhere.

I wouldn't've thought that BD players are very expensive these days.

They should have done something for the Miami Beach residency. All those updated deep cuts - aside from the MiF ones - deserved to be heard, now we're getting the same live version of Temptation, True Faith, TPK, Blue Monday, etc for the 5th time in the past 10 years.

Also, I hope the production is on par with the MiF live album. The O2 Academy live album sounds weak in my opinion.

But hey, I'm just glad one of my favorite bands is still active so I shouldn't complain.

^ Yes I accept DVDs are becoming a bit of an outdated format these days.Like I said I could use it as an excuse to get a Blu-ray player and that’s probably actually what I will do.Think you can get a pretty decent Panasonic one for around £60- £70 these days.

The only live set I bothered with was MILF cos they were actually digging out oldies and doing them justice. 23 years after the TF Perfecto mash-up first emerged, the novelty is wearing off.

F&ck me, they're milking it.
Not that it's a suprise. I was one of the first on the forum to say they filmed it and would release it.

Tickets sold for the gig: 10,000. Price £50 each.
So £500k grossed for the night.
Now buy the gig on every possible format (except DVD) for loads more ££.
Want a Tee and a badge too? Course you do, you hardcore NO suckers! We know what you like!!

The artwork looks kinda similar to NO 316 (Taras '81/Reading '98), no?

Oops, I've forgotten to log in as Michael again!

I'm not trying to be contentious here, but DVD is pretty much a dead format. As I said before, it's fine for low-def stuff, but it kind of seems pointless to release something like this concert on media that doesn't show off the high picture quality.

Blu-Ray has been about for 15 years now, with cheap players being available for the last decade or so. Before that, you could mitigate some of the cost by combining it with a games console (like I did with my PS3).

You have to ask yourself, how long does a company need to support media types for?

You could argue that they could put a cassette in the box quite cheaply too. I know I'm probably being a bit silly here, but it's kind of the same thing. DVD is an old format (25+ years) which doesn't support Hi-Def video. Most people (I would guess) would have at least an HDTV these days, so would probably want something that would look good on their screens.

If you think about it, it's up to companies (along with developers) to push new formats and move the tech forward. If they didn't do that, we'd all be stuck with the same low-def formats.

All that being said, I'm not really sure Blu-Ray sales are that great either.
Physical media is pretty much considered 'old hat', with most people (apart from us 'oldies') wanting to stream stuff.
(Although, vinyl seems to be pretty popular amongst younger people these days).

And of course, if I tried to correct a Millenial by explaining that the plural for vinyl is vinyl, they’d whip their phone out and start recording, yelling at me “ You’re a liar, you lie, you’re a liar, you lie about the vinyls innit” and then post the video on TikTok Laugh

Well as I've said, no one forces you to buy anything you don't ''''need''''. Being a completist became pointless with London and beyond pointless with YouTube, and personally I can't be bothered with yet another formula gig, but whatever floats your proverbial boat. I remember when the Beatles Antology 1 came out, It was massacred, but for a nerd like moi it was awesome to get all those rarities in listenable format, and if you're not that into them, stick with one of the very good compilations like One or 62-66/67-70.

I've got both Detroit '89 and Belgium '85 from Amazon JP. They might be soundboard recordings -- the Belgium one seems to be a good rip from the recently remastered video -- and their overall quality is very close to previous bootlegs. And I know for experience that Amazon has sold bootlegs before

Your brazilian DVD is probably Lollapalloza São Paulo 2014, which got broadcasted at the time. As usual with NewOrder, the TV channel messed up with the band mixing a little bit. I personally prefer my own recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhZrnxtkhys

Not contentious at all, I agree with you for the most part. I think vinyl outsold cd’s last year but plenty of people don’t own a turntable so lack of any cd’s in this i package may not be wise, same with dvd. I suppose blue rays were only bought by people really into films so I think lots of people have only dvd and not blue ray as these were dying even when first release. I don’t like owning things without being able to play them so I will eventually now buy a blue ray in particular as they also play the dvd format.

I agree that new order are really milking it with this release. However it looks a beautiful package and New Order is one band I do collect so still spent on the deluxe. ( n9t bothered about art print and badges so gave that a miss). I know I don’t have to buy it but it’s hard to refuse when you collect! I also attended this gig so adds a bit if extra significance and it was a really great gig.

Didn’t I read somewhere there is one other track left over from MC so hopefully this will get the same treatment as be a rebel and get released this year to have something new to look forward to.
