Just an idea: A thread for stuff relating to Twitter, FB, instagram, Spotify etc. If y'all don't like it then I guess it'll just fade away like other threads. First post incorporates two of the above.
I don't know if I use Spotify differently from others, but when I click on the link above it takes me to THIS page. However if I try to play a track from it, Spotify opens up on my PC and just sort of looks at me. So I had to type in Mixtape New Order to find what I tried to play. I notice on the initial link that track 4 is listed as True Dub from the Hacienda Acid House Classics comp (True dub is indeed how the track is listed - incorrectly- on that compilation) but when I open up Spotify properly it correctly names the track as True Faith, the Eschreamer Dub (and lists the Brotherhood reissue as the source). Anyway, I'm sure Hooky would be pleased for his Hacienda comp to get a mention in a NO playlist. Edited by user 28 October 2022 09:04:40(UTC)

So you mean like a thread to collate any stuff of interest New Order post on Twitter, Facebook etc? Might be a good idea, might not.I'm not on Twitter or Facebook so it'll probably of more help to me than a lot of people, i'll find out about stuff i wouldn't otherwise have known about.

Was there a thread for the Singles compilation reissue? I can't find it. Could it have been lost when the forum went down? They're calling Singles a box set now, just for fun. I suppose a 4 piece vinyl set is a kind of a box-set...

I posted on a past thread with my displeasure about New Order on Spotify. And nothing's changed. They are missing most of Substance & their singles before MC. Compared with other bands from their era, their Spotify page is the worst.
I love Spotify, use it everyday. I even took all music off my phone, because Spotify has everything. but I still have New Order, because it's just not there. Sorry boys, no streaming clicks from me until you put your full library up.

Sorry boys, no streaming clicks from me until you put your full library up. Yes but that's your own problem really. You chose to wholesale - and rather rigidly - to move over to a music delivery platform which didn't have a big enough selection of one of your favourite band's back catalogue for your liking. Throwing your toys out of the pram about it on here probably isn't going to have much of an impact. We all have different listening habits. Personally, I don't like Spotify because if I happen to be on a plane or somewhere else with no mobile or Wi-Fi connection then I can't use it. Plus the sound quality's shite. Spotify is basically 'leasing' music to you based on your connection and subscription. I'd rather own a copy (CD, vinyl, FLAC etc.) so I can do what I like with it. It's a bit more effort to maintain but if you're passionate about the music then I have found that is its own reward. Each to their own in that regard. Most importantly, there's famously bugger all money in streaming from an artist perspective - unless you're Beyonce or Adele - so the incentive is not there for them to have a truly comprehensive offering. Why put all that effort into assembling something that will be given away for something only slightly better than free? I suspect you'll have to live with the 'New Order Spotify Scandal' for some time to come. Condolences.

What happened to: "we got it off the book jacket of a George Orwell novel"? **EDIT** In case ya'll are wondering what this post is about. New Order's twitter did a little video montage tweet re PCL being 35 years old. It said the album title was inspired by a german artist defacing a building with the words Power Corruption & Lies. I replied asking the same question I asked above in this post, and now the tweet has been deleted. Funny that. Edited by user 02 May 2018 09:28:32(UTC)

Found a tiny bit of information (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/misleading-influencers-factory-forty-tickets-46116274017) - it was a free event (not sure who organised it) that was scheduled for last Saturday. The sound of typewriters...maybe we'll hear more about this and any other anniversary events down the line:
"Assembling a group of people, born after 19/05/78, ideally creative aspiring who will understand what Factory (Factory Records) is. for 90 minutes from 7pm on Saturday 19th May 2018. They must be prepared to use a manual typewriter and will be filmed during their participation. Refreshments and typewriters will be provided."

They gave him an an honourary masters degree for playing the drums? Nice to see he isn't taking it too seriously.

Now that the Spice Girls are reforming, I can't be negative. People say, 'Yes but there's no Posh.' And I say, 'Yes and that's another fucking good thing about the Spice Girls reforming.' Quite honestly, I wouldn't mind if there's never another album. They'd have a tough time topping Mucous Complete, and they tend to follow a good one with a mediocre one: Closer to Movement, PCL to Low-life, Technique to Republic. At least a tour is an improvement on the mid-90s, i.e. endless rip-off rehashes with only the occasional worthwhile moment - no wonder I gave up being a completist. There you go, something positive. And not about Melanie C's shoulders. Edited by user 07 December 2018 05:26:49(UTC)

This is like when Rod Stewart got a knighthood, I'd like to think if I could select someone, it'd be cos they lost a limb in battle, or discovered a cure for some fatal disease, or released 8460 political prisoners... But I guess the guy who crooned 'Young Turks' 30 years ago is awesome too in a way.

It's a New Order track, as far as I'm concerned.
The whole 'Ian wrote the lyrics' line that people are saying on that thread doesn't wash with me. Yes, he wrote the lyrics, but the vocals on the demos / rehearsals / live version were so low in the mix, New Order had to guess at some and make up the rest. There's a fair amount of those lyrics that are Sumner, Hook and Morris only.
Yes, Joy Division wrote the song (with the above embellishments made by New Order), but they didn't record it (beyond a demo) and never officially released it (H&S demo / Still live version excepted). New Order, on the other hand did. Twice. Their first single.
Definitely New Order's song.
It's almost like saying 'Suspicious Minds' isn't an Elvis record (written and originally recorded by Mark James). It isn't, technically, but that song is synonymous with The King and I don't think anyone would argue otherwise.
Not saying that that thread is guilty of this, but I've heard some hardcore JD-only fans use the whole 'New Order's only two decent records were written by Joy Division' statement to wind New Order fans up.
I'd definitely agree with some of the comments on the thread that say 'Ceremony' 'bridges the gap', being simultaneously both the last JD song and the first NO song
PS Just as an aside, I love both bands (and really consider them to one band) but my love for NO far exceeds my love of JD. But it's all relative; I rank NO/JD so far higher than any other band it's not even close.

Ok, on the one hand you probably can see old footage of NO backstage (Pumped full of Drugs, early Glastonbury - car parked behind stage). But on the other hand, if Social Media had existed in the 80s, I don't think NO would have been posting stuff like this:
Of course because I'm a sucker I watched it anyway. And the one thing that struck me was Stephen's gait - as mentioned in a recent interview. I think he might need to "see someone" about that.

Thanks for this. Interesting, if a bit weird. Yep - Mr Morris needs to see a specialist. Poor guy. That man has suffered for us all. Just to give us the perfect beat.

I was on the fan Facebook page simply called "New Order" a while ago, and True Faith's lyrics were being discussed. A lot of people were agreeing that the lyric is "see delight in the shade of the morning sun". I didn't join in the convo as I started to wonder if I had been getting it wrong all these years. I checked the lyrics websites which also have "delight" in there.
But of course those lyric websites are basically Bots that copy from the same source (or each other?), and a lot of the people on that FB page don't have a clue. So, following the above post on NO's twitter, I'm reverting back to my belief that it's actually "the light in the shade of the morning sun", and never again shall I allow people from that FB page to influence me. Some of them don't even know who Maradona is!
