About fucking time. I'm sick of reading Dr Hook play a grumpy superhero called Captain Angry bitching about how his former band are setting fire to the ghost of his dead dog, whilst Hooky goes off playing not a single song that isn't over 31 years old. N.O. may not be playing any new material, but the newest song they are playing happens to be 24 years younger than the newest song Hooky currently is. And Hooky seems determined to block the release of any N.O. material he has performed on. Which means that my favourite band has an album rotting on a shelf to please his ego.

I'm not stopping Hooky doing whatever he wants to do. If he wants to sell a customised guitar with a slice of a Hacienda toilet seat, an old bus ticket, handwritten lyrics to "Step On", and a limited edition yellow vinyl 10" of exclusive new re-recordings of old songs for £6,000, fine - it's up to him. I think he's a fucking joke.

And yes, I'd say so to his face, internet doubters. Possibly without the swearing. Still, integrity don't pay the bills.

Agreed. I'm so glad they said it. And, I would say the same thing to his face too AND about his public disrespect to other musicians. He may be a legend, but he really bummed me out these past years, and just painted himself into a corner - I was fan, and am not anymore. I don't want to read another interview of him, attend his gigs or buy whatever book he's hocking.

**Edit to add some more thoughts**

Granted, he's gotta make money. We all need to do that just to survive. But here's how he should redeem himself to fans who appreciated him for being an artist: go make some inspired new art - photos, paintings, etc.

And by "new" art, I mean really try to do something new, not old, not repetitive, not a re-record. And if your art is going to be music again, then for godsake, use Jack and the Light - make music with your inspired son if you don't feel inspired yourself. And then, economics of selling music and downloads aside, go tour it to earn the money, and then and only then, mix up the setlist with the old stuff, but don't rely all on the old stuff. Embrace being the artist without the gripe about money - it's the only way you can enjoy it and be respected for it. That was why I respected New Order back then.

The interview begins with Cunningham taking a swife at Hooky and ends with Chapman having a go....
Am I the only person here who finds this a tad ironic considering that neither of these two had anything whatsoever to do with what made New Order special in the first place?

In a way, it's very New Order leaving the two newbies to do a major interview while the rest of them piss of and relax.

Plus if some people on here seriously think these comments are "sharp" then they must have missed those interviews by a certain ex-member of the group.

They come across as pretty reasonable guys, Hooky's got his views and they're entitled to theirs really.

They're obviously toeing the party line just as much as anyone in The Light are and slagging off the band members (on either side) is pointless.

Both bands have talented musicians playing the music well but simply got caught in the fallout as did the fans.

The comments regarding everyone going their separate ways, doing their own thing and being happy may sound fickle but wouldn't it be nice eh? Tired

I'd say you hit the nail on the head - actually I'd go a bit further and say those are Barney's words spoken by his minions. Neither of them was actually in the band at the time of the first reunion, were they? And neither contributed to any of the seminal lps. Just look at the photos from the latest session.
Well and truly BARNEY'S BAND now innit Big Grin ?

Their next album is going to be quite amusing.
It can't possibly be as good as Get Ready, and they can't escape some truths about it. There are 2 outcomes: it either ends up as another Bad Lieutenant album or it sounds like WFTSC with Chapman trying to mimic Hooky's style, which would make all these "we are going separate ways, we don't need him" statements a huge load of bullcrap.

I remember reading interviews when NO came to Brazil in 2006, and most journalists, which knew very little about the band, said that Hooky was the only cheerful member and one even said that he was probably the sole reason for the band to still exist.
They should just get in a room, shout at each other for everything that got them pissed and get over it already.

I think that if they want to release new material, they should. Then people could listen to it and judge whether they like it or not. Even fantastic bands don't write masterpiece albums all the time, so I'm not expecting an absolute masterpiece. But I think they are capable of writing and releasing something decent. So if they want to try, then I don't mind. If there are those that don't want to listen to new material (if that happens), because Hooky's not in there, then fine. That's obviously a choice you have. In all seriousness, both sides should do their respective music.
