But of course those lyric websites are basically Bots that copy from the same source (or each other?), and a lot of the people on that FB page don't have a clue.
So, following the above post on NO's twitter, I'm reverting back to my belief that it's actually "the light in the shade of the morning sun", and never again shall I allow people from that FB page to influence me. Some of them don't even know who Maradona is!

I’ve always thought it was "see the light in the shade of the morning sun", as well.

Having now thought about this for more than two seconds I now look forward to seeing Peter Hook and his band at a (very) early festival slot.

It was excellent!

Great interview. Again, Steve's personality shines throughout. I love the man.

And the footage was absolutely wonderful to see.

The segue from Everything's Gone Green to Temptation at Luneberg was magnificent. Steve seemed to be thoroughly enjoying himself during that performance.
And what was with the awkward way he was playing drums in Copenhagen? Very strange!

I just hope that more footage like this gets released.

I think it would be a great idea for one-off tracks that weren't included in the Definitive box sets to be made available online. You know, after each box has been released, so as not to damage potential sales.
Perhaps a track a month on the band's YouTube page. Could help to brighten up our fairly dismal 'lockdown lives'.
Hey - I'd even pay for a download of them.

Maybe 'Johnny James' could perhaps suggest this sort of 'mopping up exercise' to Steve and the band. Hint, Hint. ;-)

It would just be a terrible shame if absolute gold like we saw tonight stayed in the vaults, never to be seen!

I seem to remember a radio show that Hooky was hosting, around Christmas / New Year, probably 1993/4. He mentioned the KJ project then and played 'Love Like Blood', IIRC.

Born To Kill / Under The Stars was also the Mrs Merton theme, I think.

Thanks for the link, Debaser.

No mention of a CD or download version, which is a bit annoying.

I'm also a little wary of ordering annoying KJ related, especially in advance.
They still owe me for an album that I helped to fund on PledgeMusic (Jaz jetting off to Russia to record symphonies with some orchestra).
Pledge went tits up; KJ still ended up releasing the LP anyway, but didn't honour any of the pledges made. Not just CDs at £20 a pop, but 'big money' items, such as signed 'scores' etc.

Also, I think there was a concurrent pledge for a huge vinyl box set, which never materialised, although notes were handed over by fans. Seems the band are now trying to release something similar again. Presumably, the new sets won't be given away to the previous Pledgers either.

Sadly, this isn't the first time something like this happened, with fans being ripped off for a 'giant box set' years previously.

Up until that point, I had pretty much every LP (studio, live etc.) that they'd ever released. I haven't bought anything by them since.

If I did get this, it would be purely for the NO connection, and I'm not going to be putting money down before there's a product available.
Fool me once... etc.

Shame to feel like this about a group of musicians you once respected. :-(

Yep. It’s quite noticeable on this one. More so than the others they’ve upgraded, IMHO.
Nice to see everything with improved clarity.

They should do this for all of the videos.

maybe the originals weren't that great to begin with,
so i don't see that big an improvement.

because the bitrate is so low for 1080p.

i do film restoration of scans for movies at 4k, where you can
see a huge difference depending on the scan.

it might be better, but not much for me.

On the Gorilla TV programme, Steve mentioned that, when they finally get back to gigging, they may try and perform some new ‘old’ tracks.

He’s kind of hinted at this before on another couple of interviews. I can’t remember where.
Actually, I think one was on Twitter during the ‘Movement’ listening party. I think someone mentioned ‘Everything’s Gone Green’ and Steve’s response was something like ‘I’ll see what I can do’.

Now, if I could only hear the band perform one ‘new old’ track for the rest of their existence, ‘Everything’s Gone Green’ is the one.

There are others of course (shout outs to the following in descending order - Thieves Like Us, Chosen Time, Hurt, Sunrise, 1963).
But ‘EGG’ is in the number one slot of tracks I’ve never personally heard live.

Well...

all it looks like is some contrast and brightness was applied.

was there real detail added, or was it interpolated.

there's a lot that can go into upscaling to make an image look better.

that doesn't mean the actual image quality has improved.

if you play around with enough image processing tools, given the right
machines to scan it, you can make laserdiscs look high definition too.

Bit of an odd one, this:

It doesn't go live until 29/12/20, so don't bother clicking on the video yet.

Not sure why they're revisiting old songs for videos.

Yeah, I guessed as much.

Still seems a little odd though.
The box set was out a couple of months back and they didn't do anything similar for 'Movement'.
I'd say it was to generate sales of the PC&L box set for Christmas, but considering it doesn't go live until the 29th, it doesn't really make much sense.

Still, I'll be interested to see what it's like.

Barney doesn't like Movement.

They created videos for Ceremony and Temptation when A Collection was released in 2005. Classic singles that never had a visual component. I guess the band felt they deserved videos to justify them being included on what was essentially a companion for Singles.

Age Of Consent is such a classic, and probably could/should have been released as a single. They just did one for the original Blue Monday. It'll help generate more streaming revenue.

I very much doubt Bernard is even aware of this new video. Or, if he is, he's probably not bothered either way. I don't think him not liking the LP would have too much bearing on whether a video was made for one of the tracks.

Yeah. They were singles and, as you rightly say, they probably felt that it would make sense for these songs to have accompanying videos. Shamberg, who was involved in those two, also made one for Everything's Gone Green, I believe. Not sure why that didn't make the 'A Collection' DVD. Perhaps it was made too late, or was just an afterthought by Shamberg in an attempt to have videos for every single.

True, but it just seems a bit left-field to do a video for this. If they were wanting to do videos for 'classics', you'd think 'Dreams Never End' may well qualify. I guess, though, B, S & G may not be too keen on that track for obvious reasons. ;-)

Originally Posted by: 50poundnote Go to Quoted Post

I think that's probably it. It's a popular song and will earn money.

You mention a new vid for 'Blue Monday'. Are you referring to the 'lyrics video' or have I missed something else?

On a related note, I always get a bit irked that the original Blue Monday video gets overlooked by the band. I know it was just Steve and Malcolm Whitehead having a laugh, but I quite liked it. And it gets extra points for having the band's direct involvement in it.

Yes.

To me, the William Wegman video for Blue Monday '88 will always be the definitive version, because it's so great, but it's nice to have an official video for the regular version, which is the version streaming services and radio will always play.

...to add further. I think Blue Monday '88 exists for two reasons.

One, Quincy Jones absolutely loved the original, and since Qwest had gained the rights to NO's catalog for US distribution, he wanted to try his hand at a remix, and from that create a shortened version to try and gain radio traction (which worked somewhat. It hit the Billboard Hot 100 at #68, and went to #1 on the dance chart).

Two, they finally had the budget to do a really great video, and MTV wasn't likely to start playing a new video for a 5-year old song. Spruced-up version = "new" in the eyes of MTV, and therefore acceptable.

Quincy didn't actually do the remix as far as I understand. He handed it to John "Tokes" Potoker (well known for Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer 12").

Another, what was that all about? I’m hopeless at interpreting these videos. Or are they uninterpretible ( is that even a word?) ?

Still, I liked the BMW. The black shoes with white socks were kind of 80s. Almost Michael Jackson ish, as was the dancing at times.

Yeah, by Item all the singles (except Subculture) had at least one vid - Turn had three, and didn't get any further than 'Singles (7" edit)'... I could argue the case for Video 586 or Someone Like You. Or I could shut the fuck up.
The words It and Milking spring to mind.

I'm pretty sure Thieves Like Us never had a video.Certainly not at the time and i don't think one has been made for it in more recent years.Maybe they should do one for that to complete the videos if they're in the business of making new films for old songs.I was thinking there had never been one for Ceremony but apparently they did one for the Item DVD though i can't for the life of me remember it.I remember the new Temptation vid (the 'Temptation of Victoria' i think it was called?) that's on that DVD but would have to dig the disc out to remind what the Ceremony one is all about.
