From Facebook:

From when New Order first began, we have worked with some amazing talent on all our music videos. True Faith & World are just some of our favourites but now it’s somebody else's turn to create a new video just for us.
Creative community Genero is teaming up with us to launch a new competition for a budding creative to make a video for our song 'People On The High Line'. If you think you have what it takes, follow the link and enter your video to be considered for this unique opportunity. Entries must be submitted by 5th June

I hope it's not going to be the next single, I'm guessing it's going to be wheeled out tonight with La Roux doing backing vocals, already planning to use the opportunity to go and get another drink while its played. Plastic would have been a far better choice for the next single.

I agree that Plastic seems an obvious choice for remixes, but I think it's unlikely to be a single as it lacks a strong chorus. In fact, there's really not much of a vocal melody at all.

Yeah, "Plastic" would be a better choice indeed, but doesn't make sense a video contest for a song with a Radio Edit mix available if it is not the project for the next single.

Not a bad song at all... I really love that funky sound. But evidently I would choose "Plastic" as a single.

This competition almost certainly makes POTHL the next single. 'Academic' is a much more worthy choice (and I doubt there will be a fifth single), but there you go.

If you set up an account at Genero you can stream and download the "unmastered" edit of POTHL. I actually really like this version as much of it retains the instrumental parts of the track without the verses and choruses dominating - unusual for a radio edit.

I do wonder if this will be a video specific edit of the track, with a different edit becoming the released single mix (as with 'World'). We shall see, but I'm liking the 'Video Edit' and hope this becomes the single mix.

Would still much prefer 'Academic' as the next/final single though.

I guess a lot of POTHL discussion has disappeared with the fourm issues.

Perhaps this will help bring things back up to date.

Did anyone here receive their 12" and/or CD today early? I got home from work this afternoon and there had been a delivery attempted to my house and a Yodel card put through my letterbox. Just says on the card the parcel wouldn't fit through the letterbox . Doesn't say what it is. Tried phoning the number but keep getting engaged tone. Wasn't expecting delivery til tomorrow the 29th or later and not expecting any other delivery at the moment.

I got confirmation of despatch yesterday (Thursday) from Piccadilly Records so I'm expecting my bundle today. Where did you order yours from? With previous releases I know people on here have received their copies a day or so early before.

quick review:

1 People On The High Line (Richard X Radio Edit) 3:35
average, but short edit

2 People On The High Line (Claptone Remix) 6:18
another version thats not much different

3 People On The High Line (Lntg Can't Get Any Higher Remix) 7:20
boring stripped down dub

4 People On The High Line (Planet Funk Remix) 5:48
good, but way too short version, sounds like it's in a different key

5 People on the High Line (Extended Mix) 7:51
standard extended version

6 People On The High Line (Hybrid Remix) 9:02
excellent, extended electro mix with breakbeats

7 People On The High Line (Hybrid Armchair Remix) 5:39
good, quiet ambient version

^ Well I look forward to hearing those Hybrid remixes. Guess I should have ordered before today.

New Order store do like to hit you with postage don't they?
The CD single (i.e. what I've ordered for now) may be a good price (£4.99) on the NO store but an additional £3.49 for standard shipping is a LOT.
Piccadilly Records charge 50p more for the product but £2 less for the shipping. They win my order.

My CD & 12" arrived this morning from Piccadilly Records and I was charged £3.55 delivery for both items combined. Very reasonable shipping charges and always a reliable service.

Fotzepolitic - I think the NO Store send out on a 2-3 day service in the UK, so it might very well be that's what your parcel is.

I'm off to listen....

Tried again to contact the courier that tried to deliver something yesterday, Yodel, but can't get through.

Then it occurred to me to log in and check my account in NewOrder store. My bundle is showing as not even shipped yet! Still "Packing" .So a) I've no idea what Yodel have tried to deliver to me and b) NewOrder store hasn't even shipped my stuff yet. This POTHL single isn't working out very well for me so far, is it? Oh well, worse things happen at sea.

That's really poor service, but that's one of the reasons I stopped ordering from the NO store. They're not necessarily the cheapest, releases are obviously not posted out on time, the delivery service isn't quick enough (Piccadilly Records use Royal Mail 24), and downloads invariably go wrong and are never delivered promptly.

I know I keep championing Piccadilly Records but everything I have ordered from there, always turns up on time, and unlike outlets ĺike Norman Records, they only take your money at the time of despatch, rather than at the order point.

I bet you're wondering now what your parcel is. 😁

So all the mixes are on Spotify now.

For those who thought the original POTHL was a bit light in it's loafers, Hybrid add a big pair of stomping boots to proceedings. And it works pretty well.

Hybrid's Armchair mix may be ambient, but in a slightly menacing way. They've managed to a bring a dark, almost sci-fi vibe to the track.

As for Planet Funk -well it's not quite WFTSC but it's pretty good nonetheless, especially from about 1.50 onwards. A tinkling piano motif that reminds me of FSOL's Papua New Guinea, and a sort of electro-trance vibe that you can lose yourself in on headphones. Oh and no Elly Jackson. The more I listen to it the better it gets.

I think it's safe to say that the Hybrid and Planet Funk mixes are considerably better than the original. What a pleasant surprise!

Just in case I'm the first one to notice...

There's two versions of the Claptone remix: the Claptone Remix (6:18) on the CD single and iTunes, plus the Claptone 12" Remix (6:35) on the vinyl and accompanying digital download bundle. The build-up is a bit longer on the 12" version, and features the first verse vocals (missing from the shorter CD version).

The minor difference actually made me wonder if the version on the CD-S and iTunes is in fact a mis-labelled 'Claptone Dub' or similar. Who knows?!

Cheers

Still showing in my account at NewOrder store as not shipped yet.I've messaged them but no reply yet.Starting to thing this could turn into a long drawn out saga.I mean, i could just listen to all the mixes right now on Spotify or Apple music but i was hoping and looking forward to receiving the 12" and CD and, you know, listening to them once i had the goods themselves in my hands.Such is life sometimes.Oh well.I've actually been quite lucky with NewOrder store up til now so maybe can't complain too much. This is the first problem i've had with them.

I agree with Less Than Zero (-1) that the Hybrid Remix is the standout.

There's nothing really poor, just mixes that subtract elements but don't take the track anywhere interesting enough with what's then left/added.

I think the Richard X edit is rather good considering the length. Would like to have had a new extended from him to see where else he could take it.

I bought the 7 track digital bundle (FLAC) off Qobuz a couple of days ago as I haven't gotten around to ordering the physical formats yet.

The Claptone remix hasn't improved much for me since I originally bought it off Beatport a few weeks ago and I'm a bit surprised it was touted as the "flagship" remix so much because in my opinion it's fairly average. Just repetitive and goes nowhere. I've read some comments saying it should had been labelled as a Dub which I'd probably agree with. The LNTG remix focuses more on that percussion bit from the original track and chops up the piano/guitar riffs which isn't too bad in my opinion. I do like the Planet Funk one; the reverb/pitch corrected vocal takes a couple of listens to get past and once the hi-hats kick in at 2:20 it's got a nice vibe about it. Both of the Hybrid mixes are really good but then I'm probably biased as I have a number of their albums already (introduced ironically via their Hooky collaborations). I've just dusted off "I Choose Noise" for a listen this afternoon and it still sounds really good a decade on.

A minor point but I notice they opted not to offer HD files this time when we got those with 'Restless' & 'Singularity'. HD files of 'Tutti Frutti' were available on certain US and Japanese digital stores so I wonder if POTHL will get a similar treatment. I take it the FLACs offered with the vinyl download card are 44/16?

I've ordered both digital (via Juno) and shaped 7" from N.O. store... but the instant digital download offered with the purchase consisted only of MP3 files. Country restrictions, perhaps? I also never got the free HD audio download of the new extended mixes of Nothing But A Fool & Superheated from Complete Music, despite the fact I've bought the original vinyl box last year.
