This may already have been asked/answered but does footage exist for the whole gig? That was my first ever New Order live tape, when I recorded the Radio 1 'In Concert' and I played it to death and knew every Bernard adlib

It always annoyed me that the official release missed out tracks (Elegia, Ceremony, Subculture & Sunrise. The last one in particular was an epic live version) - oh for a Deluxe reissue of that whole gig

Yeah - this is what happened to mine. I was really careful, and it didn't tear, but it did leave a darkened bit on the box. Reasonably visible in normal light for me.

Annoying.

One other thing that is possibly different on mine to 'UK' editions is that the white certification logo on the above sticker is also printed on the two DVDs. I imagine that the UK ones have a '15' certification logo on them instead.

Not sure if official footage is present for the whole gig, but there is a bootleg video of the whole gig, shot house right/stage left.

I haven't compared the official video on the Brotherhood set to the bootleg, but it's possible that some of the 'bootleg' footage was used as one of the angles on the 'official' footage.
I've noticed parts of the Brotherhood video (the stage left shots) looks like it was recorded within the crowd, as you can occasionally see the backs of people's heads.

I used what I could of the 16mm original footage, alongside the Steve Catterall handheld video (you'll notice his name in the credits).

Yes , many thanks to Johnny James and all who put in the great work yet again for this box. Had kind of hoped there might of been footage of the Town And Country gig October 86 and Albert Hall which were quite infamous gigs from Brotherhood era or even Sheffield Roxy June 87 but hey . The videos that did make it is very much appreciated and also the audio on the extras CD many thanks

Still cracks me up that they headlined the Friday night at Glastonbury and thought - "let's finish with a really long improvisation based on Sister Ray (at one point you can hear Hooky more or less playing Skullcrusher) - it'll be fine" Big Grin

Compared to the ultra-slick set they headlined with in 2015.

Still I suppose better than the previous Glastonbury slot in 81 when Bernard is just fall down drunk

^ Well yeah but Glastonbury back in the 80s was very different to the uber , gargantuan festival it is now. And of course the 80s was a very different time, audiences were very different back then. It was still a fairly ramshackle festival, still pretty much unknown by the masses. I'd argue it only started to become what is now ( globally known) after it started to be televised in 1994.I didn't attend it in the 80s but was well aware of it and what it was like back then.First time i went was to the 1994 one. Went again in 1995 but have never been since. Not really my thing these days.

And New Order closed their 2005 set there with a Pantomine horse!

Luckily got my box set on the day of release from the new order store.

Spent the last couple of weeks going through it all. Another superb presented box set. Very pleased overall.

Brotherhood was the latest new order release when I discovered them. It was my favourite for a long time, in fact until technique was released. Over the years I listened less to this album but really got back into it over the last couple of years. I still love the run of tracks from Weirdo, AIIWIW, Broken promise and way of life, wonderful collection of songs that sounds like no one else then and now. Some of new order most hidden gems and never played live anymore.

As you probably know by now I love my vinyl and it’s great to have this on a remastered flawless piece of vinyl. My older copies are not in great condition, in fact the worse condition of all my new order albums. So to have it again playing without pops and clicks all the way through is a pleasure.

The extras are on par with PC&L but not as interesting as movement or lowlife. Good to have but will only be played every now and again.

Excellent DVD’ s with my favourite bits being Japanese footage, pier 84 NY, tracks very rarely played, way of life sounds amazing.
The whole G mex set as well. Superb on the tube and once again showing what an excellent tune Broken promise is, full of energy.

Same here. I'd got the Substance cassette, which broke after a few weeks of intense playing and when I returned it, they replaced it with the linen box edition.
A week later I then saw the Brotherhood linen box cassette in the sale rack of R.E.Cords in Derby and snapped it up.

So it was my first "proper" New Order album and I felt much the same as you. The funny thing is that, for all the talk of it having two distinct sides - guitar stuff and synth stuff...I genuinely never noticed this at the time, which suggests that they may have been over thinking it! I just though the whole thing was great

Kind of odd feeling watching the clip of True Faith at Glastonbury and spotting which bits of Barney singing they chose to use in the video to the single release. So used to the video over the years and then now able to watch the live clip. But anyway, good to have.

Think some shots from 'Sister Ray' are also in the 'True Faith's promo video - like the shots of Steve drumming filmed from behind.

I also never noticed this until I read articles some years after first hearing it. After all, after just a few bars of drums, Paradise opens up side 1 with a synth bass line. And I think I hear plenty of electronic tom drums on side one as well!

My favourite live track on the DVDs is 'Angel Dust'. Was always one of my favourites on 'Brotherhood', and have never heard a live version. The one on DVD 2 rocks - kind of like a minor key, hip-hop influenced sibling of 'Bizarre Love Triangle' (well, it shares some of the sounds and drums anyway). Great percussion in the middle. Barney sings it pretty well too. Wonder how many times they ever played it live? Should've played it more often.

Nice to have the Academy gig on DVD, plus some of the other stuff we had seen previously (True Faith on TOTP/The Roxy, Les Enfants du Rock etc.).
As previously stated, shame that the daft edits and the visual effects of the Academy gig are still there, but I guess that, if the original footage isn't available, this is the best we can get. And I'm happy with that.
Glad the interviews were tagged onto the end too. Would've been a shame to lose these and I never liked them inserted akwardingly into the middle of the gig.

Reckon that Academy re-edit is possibly one I did years ago from the VHS and shared around with fans.

Always bugged me the interviews in the middle of the songs!

I could be wrong, but there were two different VHS versions, one with a Technique style statue on the cover, another with a black cover and Fine Time style coloured pills. Didn't one feature the interview, and one didn't?

According to SetlistFM, played 39 times between '86 - '87 and not played since. So many good tunes that NO could put in their setlist!!

They played it the first time I saw them: Berkeley1987

I was never big on the track. It and "Shellshock" were probably my least favourite performances that night.

There were definitely two different covers, with the black being a Saville design.

I was never sure why there was a release with a different cover (the statue). Felt a bit 'unofficial', as it wasn't a Saville design (I don't think).

I always assumed that the contents of both versions played the same, but would be interested to know.
My copy (the black one) has the interviews during Dreams Never End.

I also never noticed this until I read articles some years after first hearing it. After all, after just a few bars of drums, Paradise opens up side 1 with a synth bass line. And I think I hear plenty of electronic tom drums on side one as well!

Me too. I never noticed two distinct-sounding sides then and I struggle to hear it still.

My box arrived (no obi in Australia, oh well) and I'm really impressed with the vinyl - sound and appearance. Of the three copies on vinyl I own (original Australian, 2009 wobbly metal reissue) this is easily the best it's sounded. It's not a crazy loud pressing, have to crank it a bit, but fresh and punchy. For an album that's sometimes sounded a bit of a muddled overcooked mess at times, every instrument really shines clearly. A great job - did I read somewhere that Stephen was more involved in this remaster?

Wonder if there was something that could be done to fix the sound drop on Let's Go at 13 seconds... I mean, the edit on the 5th disc of Retro sounds fixed. Uh oh
