This! Wow! I would love to see this. Johnny James - did this happen? Is it in the archive? Just in case Johnny missed this comment in the plethora of posts we had in the first few days of release, I thought I'd post this again. Would love to know if this happened.

To be honest I hadn't even noticed it, so never tried looking for it. It seems unlikely given the single was two years earlier.

Yeah. Seems unlikely.
Especially considering nothing has ever appearered on YouTube after all these years.
It does seem weird that this was ever considered by the band. As you say, Confusion was old at the time. More likely to be TPK etc.
Thanks for response JJ. Appreciated.

Thanks for response JJ. Appreciated. hmmm, the video doesn't work but that image looks a bit 1985 to me: https://sonicmoremusic.wordpress.com/2019/09/09/watch-new-order-interview-on-hong-kong-tv-from-1983/

Hold on, that image rings vague bells for me of watching an 80s clip of them being interviewed in that part of the world. Or am i getting mixed up with something else? The sofa and 80s image quality seems familar But i've definitely never seen a clip of them performing a song on a tv show from Hong Kong.Or Japan. Yes, i agree i'm thinking that looks 1985 rather than 1983. Thanks for that link, Johnny. Edit: ah i think the Japanese one i'm thinking of is Steve & Gillian interviewed 1988. Though i think that one wasn't orginally Japanese tv anyway, it was Music Box: Rock of Europe but was also shown on Japanese tv with Japanese subtitles and a Japanese presenter is seen at the end. The interviewer is a female English voice. Edited by user 12 February 2023 04:17:22(UTC)

Oh and i realise now i"d stated Japanese tv. Checked the image again in the book in the Low life box and it is Hong Kong tv, not Japan. My mistake. From Wikipedia, the programme 'Enjoy Yourself Tonight' ran from 1967-1994 and it seems had a musical performance by a group or artist each week. So, it's not beyond the realms of possibility that New Order did perform a song on it. Alas, it may only ever have been seen by the tv audience in that part of the world, wasn't recorded to VHS by anyone and forever more was forgotten in the mists of time. Unless someone in Hong Kong has VHS tapes as a collection in his or her attic of every episode of the show (er, probably not eh?). I have a feeling we'll never know. Unless Steve or someone remembers performing a song on the show.

I've got that Hong Kong TV interview (no 'live in studio performance' sadly). The clip I have is of two separate interviews, presumably from two different TV studios (and on different days, looking at the change in clothes). Interestingly, both clips contain live performances, but from different TV programmes (Play At Home Haç footage and BBC Rock Around The Clock). Maybe the band decided not to mime and provided live footage from a gig instead? You can download it here (seven days only): https://we.tl/t-Ttx6ohB06INot sure where I got it from. Might've been YouTube (although I can't find it on there now). I reckon, if the band had performed, someone will have taped it. In 1985, video recorders were in most people's houses I would imagine.

Brilliant, perspex :applause: I downloaded and watched. Thanks so much for this.I really don't remember ever seeing that before. It's weird though, some parts of the interview ring a very very vague bell.Strange. Fantastic to see it anyway.Actually, nope, i'm convinced now i'd never seen it before.Often amazes me how there's still stuff out there from the 80s i've never seen.Chuckled at Steve's "Yer alright? What can i do for yer?"

Glad you liked it.
I think I found it online about three years ago. I was quite pleased when I found it, as I’d never seen it before and it seems pretty rare to have something from Hong Kong.
I’m about 90% sure I grabbed it from YouTube, so thanks to the original uploader (whoever that may be).

In the booklet included in the Retro boxset there's a photograph of Steve which looks like it was taken at the time of that second interview clip. It's a pic of Steve holding a big (his own?) video camera and he has same shirt and haircut, photo of Hong Kong on wall as in the clip.On page 12.

Over a month since the Low-life set came out now, and still no sign of the digital versions of the 12 inches on digital download or streaming services. Somewhat disappointing. Has someone at the label just forgotten to put them up online I wonder? Hope something materialises soon.

I wondered if they might be doing this - maximise the physical sales before allowing people to hear them digitally.

So at the time of writing, it's 23:30 here in the UK on Thursday night. I just noticed that 'The Perfect Kiss' digital single is now on iTunes - but not 'Sub-Culture' or 'Shellshock'. Perhaps they're releasing them one at a time? I want to buy it in better quality (probably from Qobuz, where I bought the other re-released digital 12" singles at CD quality), but it's not on there yet. I noticed the Depeche Mode album (due for release on Friday) was available on iTunes at 23:00 Thursday, so will be interesting to see if 'The Perfect Kiss' appears on other Digital music platforms on Friday morning.
