No idea, but I'd guess that they'll be at least another four, to match the number of JD episodes. Maybe more.

If I had to guess, we'll at least get episodes focussing on:

a) The early days, after the loss of Ian;
b) PC&L, Blue Monday and the giant leap forward the band made;
c) The Haçienda, Acid House, Ibiza etc.
e) The later years (inc. break-ups etc.)

If they really wanted to, they could do an episode for each LP, I guess.

8 episodes.
Can't see how they can get in-depth and up to date with only 4 episodes left🤔

Good spot.

Also, reading further down the page:

“The first series of eight episodes, or ‘Transmissions’, will cover the journey from Joy Division up until 1983’s Blue Monday.”

So there’s gonna be at least two series.

I thought it odd that they didn’t list Phil & Tom as interviewees. This explains it. They’ll probably get interviewed for a later series.

Ah, just saw the Orange got there first. I actually tried to post this yesterday but it was rejected as spam.

It’s pretty good, Michael.
I know it probably isn’t your thing, but I’m really enjoying them.

Quite pleased that they’re not going to be skimming through the New Order years.
I’ve noticed a tendency in recent years for the NO years to be given a lot less attention than the JD years.
As someone who favours NO over JD (although I still love the latter), this has irked me somewhat.

Well if Mr 🍊 can't convince you, maybe this little article can.

An entire episode devoted to the Hacienda?

This promises to be the least compelling one to date.

I've enjoyed the series overall though.

I listened in but apart from a few laughs here and there I can't say it was unmissable, it just seems a waste to devote an entire episode to the Hacienda with the promise of more to follow.

Episode 7 will cover Power, Corruption & Lies, back to the music.

I thought his comments about Ian Curtis in episode 4 were odd.

Quote:
Ultimately, it was Ian whose sacrifice was the capital that was then going to sustain factory for a decade.
You know, Ian died and that precipitated this unprecedented sale of records....You can't put that in a marketing plan. You can't put that in a business model. it just happened.

I have quoted what Saville said, people can interpret his words for themselves.

I mean, he's not wrong. He's just being matter-of-fact about it, which has always been Saville's way in an interview.

Ian died 40 years ago. Yes, it was sad, but I don't have this reverential "must never be talked about" attitude about it. Factory started cashing in a year later with Still, which in Wilson's own words was to head off the bootleggers.

The tragic death of a young pop star is not the kind of thing you can put in a business model, but it will generate cash.

Personally I didn't mind the Factory rehashes. Still was shoddy but at least it was bringing out material that was otherwise unavailable. And the two Substances earned their keep cos they were compiling tracks that had become hard to track down. The shameless cash-ins started with London and cuntributed to my lack of interest.
Seriously though, did someone die? Better check this series out after all

Although I'm not massively interested in the Haçienda, it's still a huge part of the part's history and part of what makes their story so incredible.
One episode out eight seems pretty fair, considering that the band, by opening the place, changed club culture and helped bring out Acid House.

Besides, this series will only take us up to 1983. With any luck, they'll commission a second series (or beyond) to cover the later years.

I enjoyed the Haç episode. Nice of them to interview people we don't usually hear from (Ben Kelly, and that DJ who's name escapes me).

DJ was Hewan Clarke

It was interesting, but I had a feeling throughout that it was more a part of the Factory Records story than that of Joy Division/New Order
I get that it's integral to both, but there wasn't much input from the band members, or much about the music

Always curious when rent-a-hyperbolic-quote Nobo pops up on these things. Does he proffer his pearls of wisdom or do the doco makers seek them out? He obviously holds NO / JD in some esteem but I can't really imagine it working the other way.

They have been known to mention U2 from time to time in interviews, whether or not they are fans is irrelevant really.

We heard some deep insights from Karen O on episode 7, I for one am grateful for that.

Good episode, I enjoyed the anecdote about the cover of Power, Corruption & Lies.

The thing I love most about these podcasts is that I can pretend that Barney, Hooky, Gillian, and Steve are all sitting together and chatting together.

Apparently the next episode will be the final one of the season. Feels like this will be a three-season show -- I can't imagine they could go through Lowlife to Music Complete in 8 episodes. I bet they'll conclude season 2 with Republic -- the last time our fab four played together, right? I hope they'll do an episode with all the side projects: Electronic, Revenge, The Other Two, and Monaco.

I know we've all heard this story before, but I have to tell you, it's just a joy to listen to their old music again. :)

It's been a fabulous series and I've enjoyed it thoroughly.

It's turning into a pretty definitive history of the band, with it (presumably) running to about 5 hours.
It's about time that a decent documentary was made that covers both bands (Grant Gee's excellent documentary only covers the JD story).

My only slight niggle is that it's audio only. I would've liked to have seen the interviewees and, perhaps, some archive footage.
But that is a minor quibble. It's been utterly brilliant.
