I'm not sure i'd known she was also at one time in Martha & The Mufffins.Though, not the Martha of that band, that was Martha Johnson.There were two Marthas in the band at one point.

Agree with comments in the main. Kilkenny a definite favourite. The cargo sessions will be hard to beat from any box set.

Oh and I was listening to the remastered vinyl on my Pro-Ject 2 turntable with Ortofon OM 20 stylus through Cambridge Audio Alva Duo pre-amp on Panasonic SC-PMX92 hi-fi. Cartridge alignment reset and corrected recently and anti-skate and weight checked. Oh and on Sony WH-Ch510 Bluetooth headphones ( not top of the range phones I know but they’re pretty good)I know those Hoffman forum types are particular about such stuff. They’d probably rip me to shreds about my sound set up.Oh well.

Well it was me that was having a go at the Hoffman forum, not £50 so don’t have a go at him. I’d never looked at that forum before until the other day. I did see one post with a link to soundforms or something for The Village on the remaster and someone commented that Frank had butchered it. But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

To be the fair though, the Hoffman forum might be helpful to me in answering questions about vinyl remasters in general and hi fi equipment/set up etc. I’ve got a bit wary recently of buying vinyl reissues of albums that, I suspect , are just mastered from a CD rather than the original studio tapes. The Hoffman forum may be able answer some queries I have.

Can’t find it now but thought someone had mentioned on here the latest edition of Record Collector. Anyway I spotted a copy the other day and bought it. Article and interview and selected 80s discography and value of selection of vinyl. Appears to be a BBC New Order in concert edition that is worth £300. I guess this is the Glastonbury 87 that was released in 92 so technically shouldn’t belong with a selection of 80s releases. A BBC transcription thing. “New Order In Concert 422” is the title. Edition includes a bag, 2 page insert and um..a letter. Not clear what concert it is though really. I mean, I’m assuming it’s a collectable edition of the Glastonbury 87 CD but not sure.

Gatefold Substance edition the only other one listed at a relatively high value £100 compared to others in the list .

Not much else to report from the article really other than I learnt the cascading riff on BLT was created on a Fairlight they hired for the recording session.Crikey, how much did those Fairlights cost if they could still only afford to hire one at that stage of their career? Or was it not worth actually buying one if they could just hire it for a few days or weeks?

The recording on 'Retro' was apparently sourced from an audience taping.

It does look the BBC have since broadcast 'Ceremony', 'Sub-Culture' and 'Sunrise, at various points, on 6Music, along with the 'standard' tracks.
I've got a couple of 'Gideon Coe' shows with these tracks on.

Was watching Kilkenny again yesterday.

I know I’ve said it before, but what a wonderful gig.
To be able to see the band so thoroughly enjoying themselves is just magnificent. It scotches the myth that they were a miserable band back in the day.

Great to finally see the video to such a noteworthy gig.


These box sets have been supreme.
Makes the mouth water thinking about what treasures ‘Low Life’ and the others might hold.

Right at the end, you can see Hooky and Steve laughing at each other. They seem to be absolutely loving it.

And with Bernard introducing the band at the same time, it makes for a very special moment.

It was great on audio only. To be able to see this finally, makes it all the more special.
