Ooh, got a notification on my Yodel app and it states delivery will be on Friday. Looking good. Didn’t realise it would be Yodel delivering. Handy app, that. And I’ve just updated the app to select a preferred neighbour to take delivery if I’m not home from work .

Edit: just saw your previous post, perspex and you got a Yodel thing too. Great stuff.

Yodel?!

Make sure you're waiting on the doorstep to catch it as it's flung out the van window then...

It is the day before release day and I have had zero indication my box-set is inbound (yes, checked those Spam filters).

Ordered the tip top end mega bundle + singles + tshirt on the day it was offered for pre-order. With courier delivery.

Hopefully it will be here tomorrow. Will be a bit disappointed if not.

Edit: Just got my dispatch email at 18:30 so hopefully it will be here tomorrow after all.
Very jealous of those who have theirs as the DVDs in particular look phenomenal. Enjoy!

The first DVD in this set contains a couple of tracks from the Tolworth gig on 12/03/83, namely 'We All Stand' and 'Leave Me Alone'.

Just prior to playing the first of these tracks, there was the infamous 'Mark Johnson's scooter announcement' joke.
I'm wondering if this announcement might be included in the footage.

For anyone that doesn't know, Johnson, who was at the time writing his 'An Ideal For Living' book, had been pestering the band non-stop and 'wearing out his welcome'.
The band decided to play a joke on him, by raising his newly-purchased scooter onto the back of a lorry. They then got the announcer to ask the audience if the owner could remove the vehicle, as it was causing an obstruction.

Johnson describes the incident in his book but, from all accounts, he was very upset that the band had played such a 'cruel' joke on him.

There's a photo in Dec Hickey's book of the scooter on the lorry. Who knows, maybe this photo has made it into the PC&L book?

Yay! The clip is intact! The band's jape preserved for posterity!

Wow, Yodel knocked my door just seconds after I got in from work. What great timing. Box set looks great. First flick through the book and now playing the vinyl. Nice touch with the sleeve for the CD of album including the die cuts! Kind of cute.

What a beaut.

Oh, bottom corner of the Blue Monday sleeve, at end of the colour code blocks there is a QR code square which when scanned on phone takes you to neworder.com . Nice touch.

It's looking lovely.

Haven't had chance to check out anything in great detail yet, but noticed the second DVD seems to have an unscheduled bonus feature.
Looks like Video 5-8-6, but haven't had a proper look yet.

The sleeves themselves for the LP and four 12” look really sharp and re done beautifully. Confusion sleeve more of a matt than the original gloss cover. Thieves sleeve looks brilliantly re done, really sharp . Nice inners too and extra U shape see through sleeve to go with the black inner for the LP vinyl. Like the Movement inner see through plastic that went with the Movement inner on the vinyl in that box.

Yep. It's a magnificent set.

I haven't unwrapped the singles yet, as I'm going to pop to town tomorrow and get some vinyl sleeves first.

Too many good things to list here. I need to fully consume the set first.

But, just a handful of things to mention:

The Haçienda footage looks wonderful;

Seeing 'Confusion' from 'Countdown' at last. Barney on bass. Hooky on guitar. Excellent;

Working my way through the 'Writing Sessions' as I type this. 5-8-6 is rough and exciting. Your Silent Face is absolutely BEAUTIFUL:

The 'Video 5-8-6' thing I mentioned earlier is a 10 minute long video. I think this is the unedited footage of the video that was shown at the opening of The Haçienda. It is longer than the edited version that appeared on 'A Factory Video'. It appears to be an Easter Egg and I can't see how to select it on the DVD menu. It plays after the final track of the Haçienda gig on DVD2.

Wow! There is so much here. It's as lovely a set as I've ever had the pleasure to own. Anyone who has not yet received it, you will not be disappointed.
Anyone who has not ordered yet, treat yourself. It's totally worth it.

Just watching the Kilkenny video. So strange to see for the first time after only ever had the audio for years. Looked so cramped and the front row are going crazy. Was that Rob that appears in front row by the speakers to Hooky left for a few moments during Leave Me Alone ? Those glasses could only be him, surely.

Anyone else played the LP yet? Mine skips during the intro to 586 - there are two visible scratches that follow the curve of the grooves. FFS.

Otherwise, the set looks fantastic. Looks looks my copy will be going back though...

So after sending three emails in three days I got my reply from the New Order Store who, as suspected, advised it's already been dispatched to me, and I'll have to return it back to them to get a refund. I figured although the Amazon order is cheaper, it's going to be easier cancelling that version whilst in transit than it is to venture to the nearest Post Office (wherever that may be) and return the New Order Store version.

However, despite New Order Store telling me it's dispatched, the shipping status when logged in says "Not Shipped", and order status is "Packing" still - as others have observed on here. So looks like no shiny boxed set for me on release day at all - despite placing the order within minutes of the release being announced. Very disappointing.

For future boxed sets, I'm just going to stick with Amazon, as they'll (a) almost certainly be received on the day of release; and (b) be cheaper than the New Order Store equivalent.

Have got my Qobuz 16-bit 44.1kHz CD quality downloads of the four 12 inches to play over the weekend though, which is something I guess.

I feel your pain, Mr D. Frown

So, I've now listened to the whole of the second CD. Lots of great stuff.

The New York Demo of 'Thieves Like Us' is almost unrecognisable. Sounds a lot more 'Arthur Baker'. Not as wonderful as the finished article, obviously, but a really interesting 'demo'. Who would've thought that the song would change so dramatically.

The Blue Monday versions are equally exciting to hear. The one with the 'real' drums is quite frankly odd. The other writing session is much more like the finished article and is my favourite of the three. The 'instrumental outtake' veers into 'The Beach' territory, which does makes sense.

'Murder' is pretty chaotic and a bit muddy, but still fab.

So, on first listen, the ones that really grab my attention are:

5-8-6 (Writing Session Recordings 1982) (much more like 'Video 5-8-6'; bloody brilliant)
Your Silent Face (Writing Session Recordings 1982) (truly gorgeous, with lovely guitar parts)
Thieves Like Us (New York Demo #1 1983) (so very different)
Blue Monday (Writing Session Recording 1982 - the longer version)

However, every track is cool and interesting in its own right.

Going back to that 'Video 5-8-6' 'easter egg' on the DVD, I just wondered if Johnny James can shed some light on it.
It looks like filmed footage of the video (i.e. taken with a camcorder), rather than the actual video itself, straight from the source.

This makes me think that this is actually taken from someone's film of the opening of The Haçienda. I believe that's the only time 'Video 5-8-6' has ever been shown to the public. Is it from this night, JJ?

If it is from the opening in May 1982, is there any other video footage from that night?

Steve found it in his tapes, you'd have to ask him for more specific details about it. He may well have filmed the Mac program off the screen whilst it was running using his old camcorder.

Interesting note about the digital 2020 remasters of the 'Confusion' 12". On the original vinyl, side 1 plays as a continuous piece, with the end of 'Confusion' directly running into 'Confused Beats'. On the Qobuz digital download (and, presumably the same with other stores), the end of 'Confusion' has a quick fade out right at the end (as other digital re-releases of this main 12" version have done on 'Retro' and PCL Collector's Edition). This makes the digital release of this 12" a touch inauthentic to me - I was hoping for the two tracks to run gaplessly into each other.

Can anyone with the remastered 2020 12" vinyl version of 'Confusion' let us know if it fades on the vinyl version too - oir does it run continuously into 'Confused Beats' as per the original 1983 12"?

A real shame they didn't preserve that for the digital equivalent. It seems I'll have to retain my vinyl rip in my iTunes music library still..!
