Got standing tickets for Brixton which were expensive enough, wasn't tempted by the artwork package at nearly £90 a head, bought similar from other bands and ended up with a glorified back page of a magazine so gave it a miss.

do we know if the HD download is lossless or 96/24 or anything?

got DRM?

I only buy drm free lossless these days, as high quality as possible. if the record company don't supply it, I don't buy it. annoying yes (especially as FBN are releasing such interesting stuff) but that's the way it is. No room/time for buying CDs and ripping them. Toying with getting rid of all the cds at the moment, none of them have been played or looked at in years

It's gonna be 24-bit, 96kHz. See http://store.neworder.com/uk/faqs#.

So, better than CD quality. My library is compiled in iTunes though, so by the time I've converted the FLAC files to Apple Lossless I think I'll lose the benefit, as that only allows tracks to be played back at one bitrate setting (I think), 44kHz, 16-bit. So even if the file is higher quality, I guess iTunes will dither it down for playback. Unless anyone has other knowledge/tips?

thanks for that, when I first looked weeks ago there was no FAQ about it.

24/96 and FLAC? That's a sale. if that wasnt an option then waiting for it to turn up on youtube was the plan (im not paying for mp3 compressed crap)

now if only certain peddlers of old factory stuff would do this, I'd be all over the content...

I am in something of an odd position here.

I am really looking forward to the new album (just bought 4 tickets for Liverpool) but have yet to place my pre-order.

I want the tangible CD with its Saville [directed] artwork to hold in my grubby mits. £11? No problem.

I want the extended mixes & am quite happy for them to come in any digital format.

But I do not want the vinyl. I haven't touched the stuff in over 15 years - all my Neworder 12" mixes are now happily encoded and available at the touch of a button.

So paying £65+p&p for digital copies of 11 extended mixes just seems OTT & other than relying on certain friendly websites to furnish me privately, I am out of options.

The weird bit is, I would like to pay good money to the band for the extended mixes alone but can't see this option anywhere.

I quite like what Mute are doing with this new release model but feel this is a bit of a knot, for me at least.

Same here, I would like to get the CD and if possible the additional mixes on a second cd, maybe that option will be made available later so for now I'm going to hold off on pre-ordering.

Brixton 2nd night and Wolverhampton Civic booked, both standing which was a relief, was a bit worried there'd only be seating left in which case i wouldn't have booked.Though Wolverhampton Civic could prove to be a bit tricky with work commitments and may have to sell my ticket nearer the time. But deffo Brixton 2nd nightSmile

I too would like to get the extended mixes without this gimmick thing of having to purchase the vinyl. I haven't purchased any vinyl in at least 23 years - I have Technique on vinyl but not Republic. Life's too short, I don't know where my turntable is or even if I still have it, I've run out of space, and I can't hear the difference anyway. CD or vinyl free download would be just great. I haven't listened even to the clips yet but I'm sure it'll be worth it, whatever the price. I would like to hear the whole album straight off for the first time without recognising any of it from pre issued clips, but don't know if I can hold out that long.

Also got no interest in the vinyl box set (last vinyl N.O.I bought was the 12" with the Sabres remixes of Regret which was 22 years ago) - I'll get the CD and hope the extended mixes show up on line somewhere, I'm presuming iTunes or Beatport will have them at some point.

I might be a little late on this. Just thought I'd mention that the track times are listed on itunes. Unlearn This Hatred is the shortest at 2.32. There are a couple of tracks over six minutes long; The Game being the longest track at 6.32.

Are these the standard or longer versions? That's pretty mental.
'Rising from the ashes of the legendary British post-punk unit Joy Division...' That's what I love about the Net. It's full of new info and original turns of phrase.
I'm gonna get the bog standard CD. I ain't shelling out for longer versions cos longer isn't necessarily better - I agree with Claude Flowers' comment that the Revenge tracks were better when streamlined. I may be in the minority but I always thought 'Mr Disco' and 'Vanishing Point' suffer from padding too... The 'full' versions will be on Youtube sooner or At A Later Date (see what I did there?) and sixty-five notes? Pop stars earn too much anyway.

Well that's weird. Those timings on the US version of itunes aren't the same as on the UK version.
Neither should be the extended versions as those are only on the expensive vinyl at the mo.
Most of the US itunes timings are longer, but not quite all of them.

itunes UK:

1 Restless 5:22
2 Singularity 5:08
3 Plastic 4:36
4 Tutti Frutti 4.27
5 People on the High Line 6:17
6 Stray Dog 4:43
7 Academic 4:17
8 Nothing but a Fool 4:49
9 Unlearn This Hatred 2:32
10 The Game 6:32
11 Superheated 3:12

Source

I suspect that someone has got the extended and normal versions muddled up. But who knows?
So these timings are as useful as a chocolate teapot really! Never mind eh.

Er, don't use iTunes or their file formats Wink well you probably know foobar2000 is the handiest Windows tool for getting FLAC into either AIFF or WAV formats before converting to Apple Lossless.

I think AL will retain the 24-bit quality but reduce the kHz from 96 to 44.1. There is an argument (probably a very valid one) that 96khz is complete overkill given an average person's hearing and a bit of an audiophile-y gimmick. Personally, I've never been able to tell the difference between a decently mastered recording at 44.1 or 96. That said, I do have a handful of albums in that format simply because they were available to buy and I thought why not. I predominantly use FLACs on my home PC and 320 kbps MP3s on my mobile phone. Android handily has native support to play FLACs but phone storage isn't quite enough yet (and mine has a 128GB microSD card).

Anyway, I am glad to hear that 'Music Complete' will be made available in this format; it might be total overkill but having studio master quality is pretty "neat" as our American friends say.

The only other JD/NO related albums to get this treatment so far are Unknown Pleasures and Closer two years ago on HDTracks and they were an ear-bending 192 kHz/24-bit.

I don't think they were genuine (they're not on the site anymore). Artificially upscaled by someone.

They don't output 192/24 at mastering, even now, since it's of little use at the moment. The highest would be 96/24.

They're still available on the main US HDTracks web site but not the UK one. It seems to be a recent thing with them but if you try to visit their '.com' page with a UK IP address it defaults you to '.co.uk' where the albums are unavailable. Territorial licensing I assume? They were listed with Warners/Rhino as the label when I first spotted them.

Would the original Joy Division master tapes have even been recorded at such a high resolution? I did find the whole 192 thing a bit suspect. At the end of the day as I'm finding with all these supposed 'HD' downloads if the mastering's crap then it doesn't matter how impressive the resolution is.

"‘Music Complete’ harks back to the loose, groove-based electronica of early-’80s classics like ‘Low-Life’"

"‘Stray Dog’ – is a spoken-word piece, based on a poem Sumner wrote in a melancholy moment shortly after Christmas"

Thanks for the link.
'Back to making albums' - yeah, just keep knocking 'em out eh? What's your secret? I guess we'll never know.
You put La Roux BEFORE Iggy Pop. This is like putting Ringo before John Lennon. She has a chest and head. Voice. Actually this may annoy the purists but I like the collaborations: Jetstream needed Matronic to give it added sass, Turn My Way is one of my favourite songs on Get Ready and even the hugely unpopular Rock The Shack is like Michael Jackson: not as black as it's painted.
Low-Life EARLY eighties? It's massively overrated anyway. Gimme Technique, PCL and Melanie C's perfect shoulderblades instead. 'Face Up' is gross, 'Elegia' is like watching beer-stains dry and 'Subculture' is the joy of a fully-grown man discuss masturbation.
It's compared to 'Republic' - ewww!
When I read about 'a spoken-word piece', I immediately thought of PIL's 'The Room I Am In'. Only difference is, that was Lydon not Sumner. If it's anything like the cringeworthy RTP sleeve-notes...
'Hey now. Watcha doin'?
There's a cow outside that's mooin'
I'm feeling blue 'n'
Stuff. It's a nice time though
So
Don't wanna feel low
Wanna feel high, high, high!
Hi, high life, not goodbye.
WWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!'
Quite honestly I think this'll be a decent album though. And if it ain't, there's a new PIL CD out round the same time. The fact they actually tried new stuff live (Singularity, Plastic, San Francisco) is encouraging. Maybe they feel they gotta make a special effort to prove themselves Hookless?

Music Complete: live strings on five tracks.

Arranged and conducted by Joe Duddell. The same guy that arranged the strings for "St. Anthony" / "KW1" live at Tibet House previous year.

Aah, I see them now (with the help of a proxy).

Archive transfers from the tapes are now usually done at 192/24, though back in 2007 I'm less sure they would have done that, maybe 96/24 at best.

I'm pretty certain it wouldn't come out of the mastering stage at 192/24. So I do suspect the source of these.
