Superb. Agreed. Didn't grab me at all to start with, but now loving it. Elements remind me of Everyone everywhere and Guilty Parter; I guess that flamenco-ish guitar flourish on the latter, which works a treat. Bonus points for sampling Scott Walker too.

Thanks again wrote:Recoil is good, indeed.
It's the adoration of Sugarcane by some i can't understand, i think it's awful. I think the title 'Sugarcane' is a bit strange, but it's a lovely and cute pop song IMO. And it seems to be a mockery of celebrity lifestyles?

In hindsight, it sounds more like a mockery of a certain bass player.

Listened to it today, thought exactly the same I doubt it, what with said bassist playing on it. There were similar rumours re BL's Poisonous Intent, who knows... Eric Clapton's 'Cocaine' was banned for its drug references. I completely missed them, will have to listen to it again.

I like the first half of Recoil. It's very nice, but it drags on a bit too long for me and winds up sounding like lounge music. I like Sugarcane, Shake it up (in spite of some awful lyrics), I've Got a Feeling, and I Told You So.

I'm always coming back to RECOIL, as the Hooky lead bass part is fun to play. It's exactly the song I would expect an influentual band to write 30-ish years after they started. A grown up, mature sound IMO. |
