Ever the cynic, Michael. 😁

I know that there’ll probably be nothing in it that we don’t already know, but I love things like this.
I’m hoping it’s a few hours long in total.
It will be nice to hear input from other musicians, talking about how they were influenced by the two bands.

Perhaps this might help convince you that the band are pretty damn important to modern music, Mr Monkhouse.

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. We can use this to discuss each episode.

I'm pissing about, but yesterday would've been John Lennon's 80th birthday and there was an online article '10 things you probably didn't know about John Lennon!!!' Number nine: 'He was assassinated.' Well well well... Oh well.
If anyone still needs ''''''''''educating'''''''''', just get the Brown Fowl doc. I'd love an equivalent for New Order, like the Beatles' Anthology or Pistols' Filth and fury, but it's too sprawling. New Order Story stops at 93 for obvious reasons and, more importantly, it is total and utter fucking shit.

Even as a fan I’m not sure I have time to listen to the story we all know yet again. The band rose Phoenix like from the ashes etc blah blah blah . But I’m mildly curious to hear what the likes of Damon Albarn and Liam Gallagher have to impart about JD/NO. Can I be interested in what Gallagher has to say? We’ll have to see about that. And as far as Albarn goes, didn’t he slag off Bernard’s lyrics once? Can’t remember when or where he said it now but I definitely remember something about it.Wherever I get my podcasts? Well the only place I know to get podcasts is the BBC Sounds app. Will it be on there? Not sure about that. If not, I’ll be struggling to work out exactly how I will access it.

Alex James is a fan. If Damon Allberk slagged off Bernard's lyrics, he should be locked in a cold damp room with every 1995 Blur Bside. Total and utter fucking shit.
Gallafucker's changed his tune after this hilarity. Cunt n paste:

a session for some tinpot Manchester Radio station in their usual in Studio A. The presenter says, 'Hi Oasis, we've got Peter Hook here', and I'm like, 'That's exciting, innit? Still wearing your fucking leather trousers Pete?' He shouts, 'Don't bother coming down the Hacienda 'cause you won't get in!' and I go, 'Good, it's been shit for two years anyway!' No matter what he or anyone else tells you, the Hacienda ceased being the centre of the universe on New Year's Eve 1989 when the clock struck twelve and everybody stopped taking E and started taking coke and crack instead.

Apparently this goes up to 83 so bound to be an eye opener. They rose from the ashes of JD and sounded similar but cheered up with Temptation and got into synth with Blue Monday, one of the highest selling 12's of all time. In the words of Slimedon Cowell, it's a fuck that from me.
PS saw a 90s quote from Damon Alban - 'If punk was to destroy hippies, we're gonna destroy grunge' - and it made me think. I thought, In the words of Emily Dickinson, fuck you you fucking self-obsessed, beyond fucking deluded, totally fucking self-absorbed, think-you're-more-talented-handsomer-more-important-than-you-are, fucking jumped up, fucking pseudo art house fucking fucker. Wanna change music? Gotta do a bit better than Gotcher, Alex's '''Song''' and Cunty fucking House mate. In the meantime, I suggest you go fuck yourself. Even your name sounds like a fucking breakfast cereal. What a fucking dick. Of course grunge finished, every fucking movement finishes in the end or it wouldn't be a fucking Movement would it, nothing to do with you, you arrogant tit. Like Kurt Cobain foresaw the fucking shite you'd be churning out - Rednecks, Daisy fucking Bell, Let's all fuck off down the fucking stand - and thought, Fuck me, this is fucking awesome, can't possibly fucking compete with this guy, better end it all now. What a knob.

I'm not a podcast expert, and don't ever listen to them, so don't really know what the arse I'm talking about.

However, that being said, it's going to be on https://podcasts.apple.com and I imagine it'll be on https://podcasts.google.com.

Does Spotify have podcasts? If so, I'd imagine it'd be on there.

But , as I said, I'm fairly clueless on these matters.

☝️Xfm ran out of time to broadcast the full interview, so you had to get the Podcast to get/hear the whole thing. I remember it being free on ITunes at the time. Perhaps you got it there?

According to this article, Damon Allbum was supported by Bernard and Shawn Ryder during the backlash. Can't find anything negative. https://gorillaz-news.livejournal.com/96999.html

^Yes, definitely Maxine Peake. Watched her in that film Fanny Lye D’Livered a while back. Kind of English folk horror thing.

Though this Transmissions thing wasn’t available til end of October, I must have misread.

Pretty cool. Enjoyed it.

Sounds like some rehearsal stuff at the start. Haven't compared it what's 'out there in the wilds' of the interest, but it might be 'new'.
Nice to hear the Mary Harron interview as well, which was a revelation when I first heard it last year.

It's shaping up to be a pretty good series.

Two episodes and one hour in, and we have only just covered 'Unknown Pleasures'.
It could be 3-4 hours in total.

Sounds like the next episode will focus on Factory.
It would be great if they got Alan to talk. It always seems a shame that, as one of only two of the original five directors still alive, he never gets to talk about it. I think he's always shunned interviews, sadly.

The makers of the podcast have certainly obtained a wide array of big names to contribute.Impressive.

Bono more or less confirms there would have been no U2 without Joy Division.

Yep.

Something that always fascinates me is that, apparently, U2 were present in the studio when Joy Division were recording 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', watching on. There'd apparently gone to see Martin Hannett to discuss him producing '11 o'clock Tick Tock'.

It just seems incredible that this fledgling band, that would go on to be the biggest band on the planet, were present at such a pivotal moment in rock history.

Well I’ve often felt U2 took JD’s , I don’t know.. template? existential angst? dunno, but something substantial and watered it down for the masses to become the biggest band in the world ( in the 80s at least).

I though it funny how, in the podcast, Bonio says that Clayton & Mullen Jr were heavily influenced by Hook and Morris. Yet, he said that he never want to sound like Curtis.

In other words, he's saying that his bandmates were all trying to be others, but he was trailblazing his own unique style.

Typical Bono Vox. Roll Eyes

Ah, gotta love him...

Again, this was excellent.

A really great series. I know that they've had to reuse some old clips, but these appear to only be for those who are no longer with us (Curtis, Hannett, Gretton & Wilson). Those old clips were all pretty good and were from several different sources. The programme has been researched well and, I think, when it's finished, it'll be a pretty worthwhile history of the band.

Great to hear Lindsey in this latest episode. She was there at the start and it was nice to hear her recollections.

Shame they didn't get to interview Erasmus. I think his story, should he ever tell it, would be fascinating.

Again, really good.

Not sure why, when they got to talking about Love Will Tear Us Apart, they decided to play the 1995 version.
Very strange decision. Wonder if that was deliberate, or they just picked up the wrong tape.

Still, another well made episode. Nice to hear some guests talk about the band, Bono especially.

Kudos to the band for sounding even remotely enthusiastic about telling the same anecdotes for the billionth time

Any ideas how many episodes this podcast is scheduled to go on for, given that they've done 4 and only got as far as the end of JD?

Should get a bit more interesting towards the end if they cover the Hooky break-up and the albums from Get Ready onwards, as those haven't been reminisced about in too much detail before
