Amazon is now showing a 3 disc "boxset" version available for pre-order.

Wonder what the third disc is, another CD or a DVD perhaps?

Full version of Cities In The Park gig?

Would be nice.

I wish - however they only list the tracks for CDs 1 & 2, so doubtful...

Cool

I just saw it listed on amazon jp (as an import---I recall first the CD was supposed to be released in March or something? ) (Look at the first post of the thread). Then the release date was changed to April? What's the reason for the delay? Just because only the tracklists for 1 & 2 are listed (with 2 more months until the release) doesn't necessarily mean it's doubtful. Maybe there really will be a 3 disc edition but the tracklist or content is simply not on amazon yet. Remember, some saw a CD only edition of Lost Sirens available and that turned out to be true.

Yes as NME pointed out, the pictures (and titles) promise more earcandy than is actually delivered. In 1990 I had two interests, New Order and masturbating, so this was a case of 2 birds / 1 stone. I wouldn't say the versions are inferior, just edited to leave space for 'em all - in fact I'd concur with biographer and superfan Claude Flowers that the Revenge tracks tended to be stronger when edited. Too much meandering in there - all the complexity of Perfect Kiss but none of the structure.

What the fuck's going on with "Feel Every Beat"? It's a new mix. but an "Edit" for some reason. So where's Stephen Hague's single mix gone then?

There's about 30 minutes of free space on CD 2, which could have been filled with tracks that would cushion the disappointment of what we're actually getting. And "Twisted Tenderness" sounds rubbish. Still it might have a vocal without Sumner's speech impediment.

It's not a new mix but sounds like a rehash of the Tactile/Downstairs mixes from the US Feel Every Beat Maxi-Single. They obviously preferred those mixes over the Hague one and decided to crank out a new edit. Personally, my favourite version of that track - even over the album mix - is the Danny Rampling a.k.a. UK 12" mix. Sublime remix and they even sampled bits of it for their live rendition of the track.

I half agree, putting "edits" of album tracks we already have is pretty pointless no matter how well remastered. I was really hoping for some alternate mixes and/or demo versions but no such luck. I honestly don't see the point in listening to a 2013 "edit" of a song from 1996 when I can just listen to the original full length version. Don't agree on Twisted Tenderness though; getting the instrumental may be a little underwhelming but I'm liking the sound of that guitar mix. Again it sounds like one of those great (lost) New Order tracks which with you-know-who's bass and a little bit of production magic could have been a classic. No offence to Johnny Marr of course, his guitar work on TT is outstanding and still sounds fresh.

Oh well, we take what we can get I suppose but it's hard to believe the Best Of was almost 6 years ago now. I guess with both Raise The Pressure and Twisted Tenderness tracks on the bonus disc this means we won't be seeing deluxe editions of those two albums pretty much ever which is a bit of a shame but not entirely unexpected. If it's not going to sell or will only attract a niche interest, the record industry simply ain't interested.

Would still like to know what this fabled third disc has on it; £20 for a 2 disc reissue is pretty pricey but would make sense if there was a third disc.

Picked up a 2xCDr promo of this a couple of weeks ago (sorry no sharing, it's out very shortly anyway).

First impressions of the new album remastering are um, neutral; there's no earth-shattering improvement over the Owen Morris effort from '94 which was already very good. Still, if you don't have the '94 reissue then it's a definite improvement over the original Factory pressing from '91. Overall, it's still a remarkably fresh and slick sounding album 22 years on, 5 stars etc.

The second disc as discussed is a bit of a random bunch. Most of the edits are either new instrumental mixes or clipped versions of stuff we already have. The Raise The Pressure-era tracks are re-edited with both Bernard's and the female backing vocals completely removed. Some people will find that an improvement and their absence does add a new dimension to the music. Visit Me and Until The End Of Time as instrumentals are densely packed with loads going on in them. Feel Every Beat is definitely just a variant of the Downstairs Mix from the US Maxi-Single as previously noted, I wish they'd used the Danny Rampling 12" instead.

For me, the stand out track of the second disc is definitely the Guitar / Vocal Mix of Twisted Tenderness which is superb. It wouldn't have been out of place on the final album and a lovely hidden gem to receive after 14 years. The TT Instrumental is based on the original keyboard mix but has it's own little tweaks here and there beats-wise.

Ultimately as a discography geek it would've been nicer to have reissues of all 3 albums with era specific tracks but this is definitely better than nothing and worth the money.

More info on the Discogs entry.

I'd like to get my hands on the alternative versions of TT though, they suggest that there was a TT single planned once.

Well TT was oft referred to as a potential single and as the Net went ballistic there was an unofficial poll to get it out as a single (June 23, http://www.worldinmotion.net/newsroom/1999.htm). Would've worked but...
Incidentally in this period all the offshoots suffered a lost CD single - O2's We Can Fly, 'Lec's Late at Night, Monaco's I've Got A Feeling.

The preview is up on the uk itunes. The album sounds improved to me so a remaster can sound better Check it out https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/electronic-special-edition/id599132582

The Amazon UK price has dropped to £12.50 just as an FYI

They've also uploaded the rear artwork with final track listing (same as promo).

Spotted some UK press reviews... Q magazine gives the reissue 4 stars (in 1991 they originally gave it 5) and a fair review. Mojo gives it 3 stars and seems to think it's an underwhelming LP but the reviewer seemed pretty determined to compare it directly to New Order/Smiths which is a bit lazy. It's a different musical climate today obviously so synthpop/house is not as much in favour as it was in the early 90s. The Pet Shop Boys' collaborations are gone over in both reviews which is to be expected.

No, aside from Amazon (briefly) listing it as a 3 disc box-set no other info on an extra disc ever materialised.

I came here to post almost exactly this. It would have been MUCH better to simply re-issue all three albums, as they're classics in their own right, and include accompanying B-sides/mixes to each one accordingly. Sticking songs from the two proceeding albums on a package that's supposed to be focused on the *original* Electronic album is head-scratching to say the least. Not to mention releasing edited versions of some of these great songs is a travesty to me personally, as I cannot stand edited versions of songs...in my eyes, they're "mangled" versions(see True Faith/Perfect Kiss).

Anyway as a die hard Electronic fan, I will probably pick this up since I only own the original Factory "Red" '91 release and was admittedly unaware of the Owen Morris '94 re-release until I read this thread. Good to know. I just need one thing cleared up...are there *any* cuts, edits or changes to the original tracks on disc 1 from the original '91 release? Please tell me they're identical otherwise this is a dealbreaker.
