The Story of Joy Divison and New Order, NME special collectors magazine.
http://www.backstreet-merch.com...utm_campaign=joydivision

Might be of interest to those who collect more than the music and want everything related to them.
Basically a 98 page glossy mag chronolgically going through their career in the form of a sort of discography, with interviews and lots of pics. All of which you are probably already familiar with. The cover image emphasises JD but, as NO's life was longer than JD's, so there is more NO inside the magazine. When they describe the WFTSC album as "exhuberantly affirmative" and Get Ready as "sparkling", then you know that a pinch of salt may be required. Not too much criticism in this one.

Facking Hell. Is that the way to flog New Order / Joy Division these days?

Just have JOY DIVISION in massive letters, and a pic with Curtis in it, and then mention New Order as a mere footnote?

Who are they trying to sell this to? Hardcore collectors? JD fans? NO fans? Younger people who might not know about them?

I reckon it's aimed at younger fans discovering them. I guess it's still 'cool' for people in their late teens to be in to Joy Division, so NME reckoned they were on to a winner there. I'll admit I bought this on a whim as I happened to see it in WH Smiths on Saturday whilst buying a newspaper. Might read some of the old interviews in it, but the music reviews - or at least some of the NO ones, seem kind of revisionist, and I'm sure aren't the original NME/Melody Maker reviews. Having said that, the review of Unknown Pleasures is the orginal NME review. I've just noticed that Closer was reviewed by Charles Shaar Murray (another original i think) whom i rubbed shoulders with at a punk night in a London pub a few months ago. He has a sort of Dennis Hopper scary look about him...

Bought this today, didnt go out especially to buy it but saw it and ended up purchasing. Quick flick through, it's alright actually. Much more New Order than JD, really they should have titled it NEW ORDER and Joy Division not the other way round. Funny how i remember the reviews and what was written 25 odd years later

A bit shoddy that they only have articles and the old reviews of non album New Order singles. So you get a write up about crap singles like Shellshock but nothing about classics like Perfect Kiss. Still, there's great old interviews and features that i'm gonna enjoy reading again.
