Someone submitted the double LP into Discogs a month or so back. It surprised a lot of people but the images showed a legitimate item. Where to purchase beyond a few anonymous eBay sellers accepting pre-order was a mystery... until today.

It is nice to see the original comp get the vinyl treatment which certainly looks to be a lovely gatefold package. The Forbidden City video the sleeve draws from still looks effortlessly cool and futuristic, and unlike a lot of 90s music videos has aged reasonably well. It also helps that the video was backed by one of the finest singles any member of New Order has been involved with, either inside or outside of the main group. Monaco's Wdywfm? a year later is obviously in the same category.

The 2CD edition I'm a bit underwhelmed by. The first disc remains a pretty decent representation of Electronic, just as the original 2006 offering was. The second and "new" disc... some random choices on there. Missing out Second To None and Warning Sign in favour of a few forgettable remixes makes little sense. Warning Sign in particular, considering what a good piece of songwriting it is was never treated correctly by Parlophone; first consigned to a cancelled single and then tricky to legitimately purchase for years on end.

I also would've put the full, original 12" of Free Will on there as both the 1990 7" Mix and 2013 Edit gut the tune's glory somewhat. If any track deserves to be heard in its full 12" version, it's Free Will. That build-up and payoff is er, second to none.

All that said, I collected and digitally archived my Electronic CDs a long time ago so I can make up whatever playlist I feel like. If this reissue snares a few new fans (even if only via streaming) then great.

I guess with a band like Electronic - or indeed any of the NO side projects from the '90s - they've become so niche in the 21st century, we'll take what we can get.

Duly pre-ordered.

I meant to post this here, not in the "Spotting" thread...

I will buy it but the song selection and tracklisting seems poorly conceived. I guess I can always burn my own.

Why not...

Disc one - Singles (and probably could have been*):

1. Getting Away with It
2. Get the Message (Single Remix)
3. Reality*
4. Tighten Up (Single Edit)
5. Feel Every Beat
6. Disappointed (Single Mix)
7. Forbidden City
8. For You
9. Second Nature
10. If You've Got Love*
11. Until the End of Time (Soulboy Collective 7" Version)
12. Vivid (Radio Edit)
13. When She's Gone*
14. Late at Night (Radio Edit)
15. Twisted Tenderness

Disc two - Best b-sides and remixes

[Open to debate, as remixes generally don't age as well]

1. Lucky Bag
2. Free Will [Extended version. For heaven's sake, do not edit down this glorious track]
3. Second to None
4. Idiot Country Two
5. Imitation of Life [only use New Edit if my vague calculations are off for these tracks to fit on a disc]
6. All that I Need
7. I Feel Alright
8. Radiation
9. Warning Sign
10. Getting Away with It (Extended Version)
11. Feel Every Beat (12" Remix)
12. Disappointed (Original Mix)
13. Until the End of Time (Fluffy Dice Remix)
14. Twisted Tenderness [Guitar Mix
