Relatively spicy:Setlist.fm

4 tour debuts: "Ceremony", "Guilt is a Useless Emotion", "World" and "Decades".

Edited by user 17 March 2023 07:33:02(UTC)  | Reason: Ceremony was also a tour debut

I will say, it was good hearing ceremony.

But basically, this was a slight change on the unity festival setlist:
the seattle show had superheated and vanishing point.

not a fan of world though. guilt is a useless emotion was ok,
but i would rather have heard be a rebel.

=================
anyways, bernards vocals were very rough the first half of the show, but eased into it in the 2nd half.

i do like the earlier era songs.

everything was pumped up to 11, especially the blinding flashing visuals. that really needs to be toned done.
and i'm not just saying that as an old man.

this wasnt exactly a rave, but it looked like it.

i still remember seeing them in a small theater location in 1985 for the low-life tour, and there barely had
any lights, maybe a few floods, doubt they had lasers. but i still remember that show a lot more, than i will
remember this one, due to the overload on anything. at one point i just closed my eyes just to listen to the
music, and that was actually better.

the versions were all the more recent evolution of the songs, so the bass and drums were super loud.
even the guitars were too. it was a much more rock sounding show. i do admit to liking all the extra
guitar parts from bernard though. even the reviled subculture got a decent response (although i
actually like the remix version, they even piped in the backup vocalists in most songs).

i think the keyboards were mixed too low, even when gillian had the leads, it was being buried.
there were a lot of bass solos too.

overall, no surprises really, just them doing the hits, with a few extras mixed in there.
the casuals liked the usual songs, and the place was packed.

so they must be doing something right.

I'd call a set with four different songs than the previous one (only three days previous) a definite 'win'!

Bravo!

i wouldn't. as i said, ceremony has been played previously on this round of tours, going
back several years.

world really wasn't that great, would have liked 'be a rebel',
and the joy division didn't add much either.

i will give The LIGHT, some credit. of course playing an album is predictable.

but if new order ever did - 1 album in entirety, and then greatest hits, i would be fine.

play - low life completely, and then do the hits. would be great to hear.

some of these songs have never been played throughout their albums (maybe back in the day of their tours).

i've been looking back through their setlists, and where they started fixing them, was back in 2001:

the average setlist from 2001:

2001 Setlist - 19 shows

1 Crystal
2 Regret
3 Transmission (Joy Division cover)
4 Ceremony
5 Atmosphere (Joy Division cover)
6 Your Silent Face

7 60 Miles an Hour
8 Close Range
9 Touched by the Hand of God

10 Bizarre Love Triangle
11 Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division cover)
12 True Faith
13 Temptation

Encore:
14 Rock the Shack

15 Blue Monday

====
basically they moved the joy division tracks to the encore,
took out some of the get ready tracks, but the rest have all stayed there, at least 70% of them.

replace the middle part with some from music complete, and we're back where we started 20+ years ago,.
