that topic title is misleading..
bernard QUIT singing lessons because he DIDN'T want to end up like tony hadley.
maybe i read it wrong in thinking tony gave him the advice.
there's some songs by spandau ballet that are decent..

Ok, I'd like to make it VERY clear that Spandau were one of the bands that I really hated as a kid. There were some songs that stayed at No 1 for ages in the 80's which baffled me then and they baffle me now. "I just called..." by Stevie Wonder was one of them and "True" by Spandau was another. Oh and not forgetting that Lionel Ritchie dirge, "Hello". Oh lord i feel sick just mentioning these tunes. WHAT were people thinking when they bought these records?! I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. But, courtesy of Billy Brag who wrote a song called "I dont need this pressure Ron" I became aware of a Spandau Ballet track that came out before they went all gooey. I genuinely like the chorus to this. I feel I've said too much already.

Also in that interview: there is a strong possibility of a new Electronic EP shortly.

spandau ballet and duran duran both competed in bringing the 'new romantic' sound to people.
of course 'duran duran' won out, and even are still going strong to this day! so they are better known. and i actually like them also..
spandau ballet was much more subdued, but they still had their fans that have stuck with them.
tony hadley has a pretty good solo career, and does tours with martin fry of ABC.. they both sing a lot of pop/rock hits besides the standard stuff from their respective groups.
as far as singing voices go, they are both up there as being unique, along with peter cox of Go West, and richard darbyshire of Living in a Box.
