Well they've tried to do something different. But yeah it's weird. The Avalanches Surrender To Love Mix

*EDIT*
Oh there's a "visualiser" video now courtesy of Kate Gibb who designed the single artwork (I think she's the Chems equivalent of Saville). It seems this is an edit and a longer version will appear "in the future".
I could imagine the track from about 2.32 onwards working well at an Ibiza outdoor event or at a DJ set at a summer music festival. However it would perhaps appeal to house/pop fans more than to NO or Chems fans.

I'm a little disappointed they didn't put this 20 minute OOC remix on the 2 x CD reissue... you need to buy the full 4 disc set to get it so it's a little short of £40 to get the "Psychedelic" mixes.

I liked Surrender a lot at the time and still revisit it occasionally. I think like most here, New Order fans tended to gravitate towards the Chemicals' stuff but the Barney collaboration was a definite dangly carrot to make the Surrender album a must-have. I hoovered up many CD singles of the era, so have most if not all of the b-sides including the excellent "Enjoyed"; a dub version of "Out Of Control" in all but name from the "Music: Response" EP. I remember listening to it for the first time having no idea and going "hang on?". No Barney co-write on the sleeve for "Enjoyed" though, which was odd.

Basically, if you got most of the CD singles from around the era then the 2 x CD set is a waste of time so I'll probably wait until the 4 disc set is on sale next year.

On a side note, I remember being chuffed getting my hands on this promo CDr single some years ago. The definitive Out Of Control single including the 12" Sasha mixes, which were only available on a super-rare Japanese CD single at that time. 10-12 minutes apiece.

I had the japanese CD-single at the time, it wasn't that hard to find back then. But obviously harder since that time.

I do notice it's missing a Sasha Radio Edit, so i still have to track that down.
It is on other promos though.

Caught The Chemical Brothers live last night at Birmingham Arena.First time i've seen them live and finally ! Great show and the arena was bopping and rocking, a great party down at the front. Some of the impact of the visuals was lost on me as i'd watched the tv broadcast of their Glastonbury gig last summer but some of it was entirely new to me.

Loved the roman stained glass window images stuff accompanying Private Psychedelic Reel.Great way to end the show.Kind of like the entire story of religion/the world/ good versus evil all wrapped and told through stained glass windows with a euphoric soundtrack.Wow.Gotta love Tom & Ed.UserPostedImage

☝️ Quick recap:
The Chems had their own "21 Minutes of Madness" mix of OOC which had (allegedly) been sitting unreleased for 20 years since its original release. They put it out on a Ltd white label 12" last year and in the box set re-release of their Surrender album (20th Anniversary).

But they also comissioned the Avalanches to re-work OOC for Record Store Day 2020. They posted an edit of this version on YouTube. But if you wanted to hear the full 11 min re-work you had to buy the RSD vinyl.
Then of course, RSD '20 got cancelled because: pandemic.

So the RSD people announced a series of "drop dates" for all that unreleased stock - at the end of Aug, Sep and Oct.
It seems the OOC thing was released in August. [

And about a month ago a YouTuber ripped the vinyl and uploaded it.

Tl;dr? Here's the 11 minute "Surrender to Love" version of OOC.
First three minutes feature other Chems tracks:

I kinda like it on its own terms. It's a trip all by itself. Not better than the original but different and creative. Less spoken word overdubs from Ed Simons and the random bird who does "what the fuck she wants" would have been better. I could imagine this working at a festival or during a "sun coming up" moment in the morning at an Ibiza club.
