Following Bernard's book, Peters turn of events is published in October.

I'm presuming he'll be doing a signing tour like he did with the last couple of books, but Recordstore are currently taking pre-orders for signed copies (just ordered one, I think the last signing he did in London sold out without me even hearing about it )

I know he's doing a tour of the US later this year, so I'm pretty sure he'll probably be doing promo events for the book as well. I'm actually looking forward to reading it, despite the joyless division between him and the group... buh dum tss.

I am writing a book about how New Order developed '80 - '83. It explains that they started out sounding similar to Joy Division as that was actually their previous form - did you know that the first single was indeed a Joy Division song? - but they livened up in 1982 with 'Temptation' and and were heavily influenced by New York disco in 1983. The book is called 'How many more fucking times? It's been 35 fucking years, has the fucking novelty still not fucking worn off you fucking fucker' and you can buy an unsigned copy on the Internet.

I shall not be giving Hook my coin for his latest "first class ticket, third rate view" outpouring.

On a positive note, I did quite enjoy Michael Butterworth's "Blue Monday Diaries" recently. It's clearly been padded out quite a bit but that's easily forgivable, considering the author & his appreciably different approach to the main body of the book.

I'm looking forward to the book. I freely admit the arguing has entertained me a bit. Of course a good resolution, such as reformation, is what most of us would ultimately like to see. However, what I'm really interested in is Peter talking about how the albums were made and his views on the music...

Now before we start yet another chain of Hooky bashing here, I remember him saying that his new book is actually going to reveal a lot of the recording details for each album. I do music production with synthesizers as a hobby, so I'm really excited to read all the little nerdy creative details which helped inspire certain songs from a music tech point of view. Barney touched a little upon this in his book (talking about the process of creating Blue Monday with him and Morris spending hours programming everything), so if the book is filled with stuff like that, it could be a very inspiring read. For all we know, many of the New Order songs simply started out with a bass line first, much like the Joy Division material. Hooky probably knows a little synth programming too (for example: The Happy One).

You guy's nearly made me spit coffee out on my computer screen right now. This is seriously the funniest thing I've read all day. Now assuming he's doing a book tour, it's going to be very difficult to keep a straight face if I meet him in person to get an autograph. I should carry a silver ink pen and ask him politely to sign it directly above the bass, haha!

Fantastic book. Really felt like I was at Brit Row hanging with them, just fascinating account of how they work together in the studio, and what drugs they consumed. Though I feel like Hooky told Michael he couldn't divulge on him, cause he is the only one in the book who seems to be a saint with all that...

Seriously tho, what a voyeuristic read. Felt like 1983 for the entire week I was reading that. +++

And if you look closely at the cover, you'll notice that the words "Inside New Order" are in the shadow of Hooky's arse. They say you should never judge a book by its cover, but it's all very symbolic. Eek

There's mention of NO in his latest book. He talks about the tour with pil, sugarcubes, NO and how Barney was so drunk he had to be wheeled onto the stage. He seems complimentary towards them now but I remember him being very ugly at the time - 1989. In an interview w/ mtv during that tour he said sugarcubes were ok but NO were no good and only doing it for the money. Typical Lydon

I'll have to check that book out then. What's funny is that the some of the best New Order gigs are when Sumner is totally sloshed. When I saw them in Oakland a decade ago, I remember him being a bit drunk, falling over and then tossing his guitar into the air. It was a riot!
