Following their first full UK tour in late May/early June of this year and a recent headline performance at The Hop Farm, Peter Hook And The Light take “Unknown Pleasures” on the road to a host of new venues across England in late November 2012. The Light are set to play the widely acclaimed album sequentially and in its entirety along with other classic and lesser known material from Warsaw and Joy Division’s repertoires.

Receiving great reviews and reactions on the early Summer dates including some five star reviews and hugely admiring comments, The Light recently completed performing the trilogy of Joy Division’s official album releases with two “Still” concerts in Manchester in May 2012 and have now come to play every single Joy Division track ever released.

Check out live footage from the last UK tour shot live on stage in HD here:

She's Lost Control live in Nottingham: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...Qc_u19k&feature=plcp

Transmission live in Birmingham: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...O6i7A7M&feature=plcp

Shadowplay live in Sheffield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...BgfZCMM&feature=plcp

Twenty Four Hours live in London: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...NSpbRlo&feature=plcp

Love Will Tear Us Apart live in Oxford: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...UQ3Cgag&feature=plcp

Digital live in Dublin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...4gnbz34&feature=plcp

Drawing on this in their extensive live sets, The Light have toured constantly since first performing “Unknown Pleasures” back in May 2010 and have taken the show across the world to the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand and practically every European country, drawing crowds that encompass both original Joy Division fans and the younger generation influenced by the band’s material.

With the full performance of “Unknown Pleasures” at the centre of the show, The Light play the first album in track order replicating the album experience and atmosphere created by legendary producer, Martin Hannett. Hannett’s studio mastery along with the rawness of the bands first album material means that the reputation of the LP remains as powerful as ever, with fans and also the bands who are acknowledged to have taken on the template of Joy Division’s sound in the modern era.

“Unknown Pleasures”, considered one of the most stunning debut albums ever released, came to yield many landmark tracks, including “Disorder” “Insight”, “New Dawn Fades”, and “She’s Lost Control” but alongside the album,The Light also turn to Hooky’s early repertoire to perform many other Warsaw and Joy Division tracks, some of which have never been played live previously apart from within The Light’s live performances.

Supports on the tour come from Shinies (http://soundcloud.com/shinies) at the Coventry, Preston, Leicester, Stoke, Leeds and Newcastle concerts and Tiny Philips (http://www.tinyphillips.com) at the Southend, Exeter, Norwich, Portsmouth, Gloucester, and Brighton gigs.

On “Peter Hook And The Light” Live:

“Nights like this are a reminder what music lovers have missed out on for three decades”

M.E.N., May 2010

"The shows turned out to be truly unique in their own distinctive way, but what can be said is that they shared a similar celebratory vibe, a celebration of all things Joy Division. Peter Hook had the responsibility of assembling a band and live show that would musically represent Joy Divisions short yet rich history as a group that changed British rock music forever, he succeeded in doing just that.” Big Wheel Magazine, Sept 2011

"A heart-rending homage to the original band, and a great example of rock showmanship."

National Post, Sept 2011

“Stirring, emotive and exceptionally impressive....Hooky and the band reinvigorated the old material with real passion.....Hooky has one eye on posterity and he knows which band's legacy he's been left to defend. Long may he keep fighting.”

Word Magazine, December 2011

“5 Stars – A fitting tribute to one of the greatest bands Britain has ever produced. Hooky pulled it off and then some.”

Sunday Mail, May 2012

“Hook is dispelling the naysayers, the doubters, reclaiming his music and delivering it the way he always wanted to, as the song ends he looks emotional, he strips to the waist, balls his shirt and tosses it into the crowd.

Joy Division were always a rock band, and Peter Hook will always be a rock star – but a rock star who wears his heart on his sleeve and isn’t ashamed to show his emotions.

Magnificent.”

Louder Than War, May 2012

So much for putting an end to it with "Still". This will make it three and a half years of playing "Unknown Pleasures". longer than Joy Division themselves lasted. Can we have something new?

I think PH & The Light would argue from their point of view so long as the demand remains then the tours will continue.

However it could also be argued that sometimes it takes more courage to dispense with what the status quo demands and do something new even if some risks are involved. After all, what could be a more appropriate homage to what Factory Records and Punk stood for than to branch out creatively with a new EP of original material? The Hacienda Records label and digital distribution seems to be in place so the only thing left would be the songwriting and studio time (yes I'm aware that costs money).

I'm sure everyone who goes will enjoy the UP gigs so not knocking that aspect at all... it's obvious The Light can play JD well.

Basically, new material would be pretty well received even if it was only a small EP.

In fact, I'd prefer an EP with maybe a couple of bonus remixes... albums can contain some right old filler.

Good news they're touring, but UP again? I was hoping for Movement - the sings were far better live and he sang a quarter of em first time around!
New stuff? from what I've read, I believe it's been mooted but Hook just likes touring. Quite honestly while I love Hooky's playing and Light gigs, I've never really rated him as an actual songwriter. The album he was most involved in penning was One True Passion, easily his worst. Still...

That's not an unreasonable call.

I'm losing count of how many UP tours The Light have done now. More than a little cabaret.

All part of the book promo I guess.

The most striking thing about The Light is that people were against them on prinicple, but every gig has been an absolute belter. As far as I'm concerned they can tour forever, from UP through Low-Life to Freebass!

Dam fine show Peter put on for the Good folk of Portsmouth on thursday.. kicked of with No love lost, did an ace version of Heart and soul and played twenty four hours which is me fave Joydivision songs. Had the sleave to Closer as a back drop which was a bit spooky ,
After the second run of encour songs they finished with ceremony, with Hooky alone on stage bashing hell out of his BaSS. then throwing his top into the audience,, to sweaty for me to want to catchit.. What a night,,

A means to an end

Saw them in Gloucester last night. Flawless drumming as you'd expect from Old Lead Foot, and Jack did a cracking job on the bass, but there were some rather bizarre renditions, Insight ultra slow a la Rowetta, Shadowplay with hardly any guitar, I Remember Nothing with rockstar ending and a truly cringeworthy Decades.

Candidate and Interzone were fantastic though, and Digital was so punchy it was superb.

Much preferred the pre-UP and the Closer stuff to UP, maybe I know the songs too well as a player and am being critical because I think a tribute band should play them faithfully rather than interpreting? Who is right and who can tell? Good night though, can still hear Heart and Soul pumping through my core!
