I do have this, purchased it when it was released back in 2007.It's alright, not earth shatteringly essential but if £8.99 won't break your bank i'd say go for it.The interview bits are ok and a few good session versions of a number of songs.A lot of the songs listed are just the studio versions so you don't really have to purchase those but annoyingly if you want the iTunes session versions of Waiting For The Sirens' Call and Love Will Tear Us Apart (and one of the interview snippets) it appears you have to purchase the whole thing. .

If you're a big fan or completist then yeah it's probably worth it. I remember buying this when it originally came out in Apple's DRM-ridden 128kbps format and being disappointed it was the only way you could acquire this seemingly exclusive release. To Apple's credit when they introduced the non-DRM "iTunes Plus" format a few years later they offered an upgraded version to original purchasers for free. This is said version.

The six "iTunes Originals Versions" are bona fide, unique and exclusive re-recordings which to date are unavailable anywhere else; Transmission is a good, rocking & confident version and Run Wild is interesting to hear simply because they don't play that track often. Interestingly in the interview segment prior to Run Wild Bernard states it's the "most personal song" he's ever written but declines to elaborate further on the specific inspiration. I found this regarding the recording details:

Quote:
iTunes Originals – New Order is a digital album by New Order which was released only on the iTunes Store as part of the iTunes Originals series of digital albums. It features live versions of the band playing some of their more famous songs as well as featuring the band themselves talking about their careers.

The tracks featured on the compilation were recorded and mixed by Tony Espinoza at SF Soundworks in San Francisco, from April to June 2005.

The interview segments with Bernard, Peter and Stephen cover well worn ground on how the band came to be etc. etc. brief and non-essential in my opinion. The other tracks are just the standard album/compilation versions so chances are you'll already have those. Only you can decide if the above is worth £9 Wink it's nice to have. I hope one day Apple will put it out in lossless format.

Thanks for your info and comments. I think I might go for it in the end .. we'll see if Santa brings any extra 'pocket money'! Smile

Oddly, it's also on Spotify (as 'various artists') but you can only listen to the studio tracks, which are of course available elsewhere. What's the point of that? Eek

Definitely worth it. Waiting For the Sirens call is fantastic as well as Run Wild, and you get a nice, clean version of LWTUA with no "COME ON!" included :)
