Entrepreneur and musician Hadar Goldman, 48, has purchased the property at its asking price of £115,000, plus £75,000 in compensation and legal fees. "Although I paid £190,000 – nearly double the asking price – I felt as if I had to get involved, especially after hearing the plight of the fans who had failed to raise the necessary funds to buy the house owned and lived in by one of the musical heroes of my youth," Goldman said of the purchase. "Joy Division left a musical legacy which has influenced many of today’s bands."

"This is not just about history and the past," he continued. "The Joy Division legacy deserves to be taken into the 21st century, to raise awareness into one of the most seminal bands in the history of contemporary music."

A press release states that "any venture to preserve the heritage of Joy Division would be sympathetically conceived and developed".

You can the view the interior of the house as it is now on RightMove here

So how are they going to go about this? They're going to rip out all the house as it is now and try and recreate all the decor, furniture etc as it was when Curtis lived there?

Think i got a bit tired of all this Joy Division revival quite some years back really. New Order circa 1982 -1985 is much more interesting.

Yeah but if we all gave money to Africa we could finally put a stop - to Comic Relief. And that 'Do They Know It's Christmas' single. Come on.

So he bought the house where Ian Curtis died so as to charge people to go in and have a snoop around?

How long will it take him to make his money back I wonder?

I could be wrong of course about him charging people entry to the house and if so I take it all back but I can't see what other reason he would have for doing this when he could have used the money to just buy a house and let it out to tenants.

What I do know though is that I would have no interest whatsoever in going into that house to have a nose around where this tragic event happened.

With all due respect dear mates, but I'm so bored and tired with the Joy Division revival... Seems people have forgot the extraordinary things they did as New Order - a no less important legacy.

http://www.nme.com/news/joy-division/85889

The man who recently bought the former home of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis has spoken to NME about his ambitions and intent behind turning the property into a museum.

Tel Aviv-based businessman Hadar Goldman, 48, spent a total of £190,000 on the two-bedroom house at 77 Barton Street, Macclesfield, where Curtis died in 1980. Goldman has previously spoken of his wish to "raise awareness of one of the most seminal bands in the history of contemporary music" with the museum, but now, speaking in this week's issue, available digitally and on newsstands now, Goldman delves into the plans in greater detail.

On first hearing the news back in February that Curtis' former home was being listed for sale, Goldman describes "listening to the radio in my car approaching Paris" and instantly knowing that he had to "jump on the idea and chase it like a lunatic". Despite being informed by the estate agent that the owner had already found a buyer, Goldman claims to have responded by saying: "Screw the buyer! What’s the point of it being just somewhere to drink, eat, shit when it’s a special place?"

Goldman does regret one part of his eager pursuit of the property, however. "Looking back, I made one mistake in all of this," he said. "When I was carried away I messaged Ian Curtis’ daughter, Natalie, via Facebook. She ignored me - I think she blocked me - and I respect that. She only was a year old when he died. She grew up without a dad. I now realise that it was trespassing to ask for her help."

Despite former Joy Division guitarist Bernard Sumner describing the project as "ghoulish" and a "monument to suicide", Goldman remains adamant that his plans are respectful and positive. Describing Sumner's comments as "100 per cent bullshit", Goldman added: "I don’t want it to be a memorial. I want it to be a living thing; a factory that produces – a catalyst for art and creativity, not a gothic shrine. That’s how you take tragedy and create something positive."

Goldman continued: "I can collaborate with the fans and turn it into the place it should be. You can call it a museum, but it could also be a gallery or somewhere for young musicians to record. Not everybody can travel to Macclesfield, so I want to connect it online somehow... If you really love an artist, you are called for duty. I don’t want to sound like a pathetic new-age bastard, but things happen for a reason... Ian Curtis' house is going to be a creativity centre and that was the aim."

I would imagine if this individual wants to use the property as anything other than a home he will probably require planning permission from the local council. That in turn will most likely involve a lengthy consultation period with local residents so they can have their say on his "factory that produces" idea. It is after all a residential area and his development proposals may have a view to completely changing the original purpose of the building.

Reading his derisory comments towards not only the original buyers but Bernard himself plus the alleged outcome of his attempts to contact one of the relatives speaks volumes. People can draw their own conclusions from all that... and they will.

An absurd idea - to purchase the home where Ian Curtis last lived... It's a terraced house with other people living down the street...

This:

"When I was carried away I messaged Ian Curtis’ daughter, Natalie, via Facebook. She ignored me - I think she blocked me - and I respect that. She only was a year old when he died. She grew up without a dad. I now realise that it was trespassing to ask for her help."

He should have got the message, but obviously doesn't respect the family's views. I'm guessing he got a similar response from Debbie Curtis too?

Richard Staines, a Joy Division fan from the heart of Stoke, has bought a piece of paper for £62706193625739714826173859263.03 in honour of his idles.
'Paper was like, really important to Ian,' insists Dick. 'It's what he wrote them lyrics on 'cos they didn't have the netty thing back then. Just think: If he was alive today, he might of used this very shit of paper to write 'Love will tear Us apart' on!!! Also, the fourth letter of 'paper' is 'e', just like 'love', and you can 'tear' paper too. It's awesome.'
Dickie wants to turn the paper into a sort of mini-museum for fans. 'People can come from all over the world, look at it, and then go home again,' he says.
Accused of not investing in anything worth a wank, like Africa, Amnesty or drugs, Richie swiftly quotes Oscar Wilde: 'Fuck off. It's my fucking money and I'll fucking do what I fucking like with it. So fuck off.'
Rick's next project is to buy a kangaroo from Norfolk. 'There's a type of kangaroo like a wallaby and that sounds a bit olike 'Wannabe', which was the first hit by the Spice Girls, and I like the Spice Girls even more than Joy Divsion. Also, the second song by the Spice Girls was 'Say You Will Be There', and even though Ian's dead, in a way he still is there through his music. Fuck off, anyway.'
You can read about Staines in his blog, and all over the Internet.

I have no intention of visiting the house or museum whoever is doing it even if it was someone pleasant who could really do something tasteful ( if you can argue that there is anything at all tasteful about doing something like this) but this guy seems deeply unpleasant. I care about what happens with the house without actually having any desire to visit it.

The politics of funding and feeding Africa - or any other country - is like this: The reason why people aren't being fed is because there are people in position who want it that way.

Spend it how he f*ckings wants, is what I say.
