Don't know if the band or Saville gave them permission, but a band called Letlive is using the Power, Corruption and Lies cover on their t-shirts

Anyway, back on topic.

This latest plagiarism case is probably another grey area like the Unknown Pleasures Disney t shirt a few years ago.

Unless I'm mistaken - like the UP "radio waves" image - the basis of PC&L sleeve isn't really in the band's ownership and so options could be limited:

Quote:
The cover is a reproduction of the painting "A Basket of Roses" by French artist Henri Fantin-Latour, which is part of the National Gallery's permanent collection in London.

As the famous Anthony H Wilson anecdote of the FACT 75 sleeve goes "the people of Britain" are the owners so er... should we sue? (kidding)

It is very cheeky though, not much imagination just nicking another band's LP cover from 30 years ago.

A lazy/misguided homage perhaps.

Well if they'd just used the original painting you couldn't argue with it, you wouldn't really have a case but they've used the actual album cover i.e with the colour code.Bit odd.

On Letlive's official merchandise site, they call it "New Order Tee" so they must have had some contact with the band rather than a cheeky swipe

A nice tribute to one of the greats.

Yeah this line in the store does suggest it's semi-legit at least.

I checked out the band on YouTube and was expecting some electro hipster stuff but erm... it's quite heavy thrash punk.

Struggling to hear the NO influence in their music but each to their own Laugh

The singer has an impressive beard.
