I was going to ask the same question. I'm expecting someone local to suggest a place for a pre-gig meetup.

There's a meet in Showdown on 6th from 5pm. The Happy One informs me.

Will you take your place at the showdown? (sorry).

Showdown? Sounds like a trap! You're not even on the continent yet you're pulling the strings like a wily puppet master.

Arrived in town too late for the meetup after all (traffic woes driving up the coast).

Glad I didn't miss any of the show. Final encore was a cover of Scott McKenzie's "If You're Going to San Francisco". They played the whole track and it actually sounded well rehearsed! Bizarre.

Happy to catch up with some of the Vikings afterwards. Will the L.A. show be unique as well?

The San Francisco night was very entertaining and regrettably the only date I managed to make on this tour. The band gave their usual solid performance and a special mention for Bernard's vocals as he sung really well for most of the set; Your Silent Face in particular (and the accompanying video) was a highlight. I enjoyed Singularity (first time I've heard it in the flesh) and Plastic also; looking forward to the studio versions as they've certainly got a fresh sound far removed from the more guitar driven stuff of the past decade and a half. I'm not sure if the ambiguous lyrics of Plastic are aimed at anyone "famous" in particular but I guess some fans will already be chewing them over.

As mentioned the now famous second encore nearly took the roof off the place as literally no-one was expecting the Scott McKenzie cover version which the band belted out very convincingly. A lovely touch and shows they're having a good time touring I.e. making little efforts for local crowds. Would have loved to chat more with the US Vikings but unfortunately we had to be out of our accommodation quite early the next morning and so duly called it a night. Shout outs to the usual suspects who were a pleasure to drink with over the previous nights in SF; Thursday evening in particular.

Only lowlight of the evening was some of the crowd on the right side being overly aggressive - ironically while openly smoking weed - caused a few of us to move back. This guy in a Hawaiian shirt seemed intent on having a ruck with someone early on in the night but gave up after his girlfriend seemed to calm him down. Venue was fine, if a little soulless. I was disappointed not being able to make the final night in LA simply because the venue (Greek Theatre) looked amazing and a special place to see one of your favourite bands play. Have yet to hear reports of that night from people on the ground.

I've got to say since I went to my first NO gig in 2001 I have never (personally) seen the band play so much of PC&L, two new unreleased songs plus a one-off cover version ever. It's a different vibe these days and three years since this line-up began touring they still very much have a look of people enjoying themselves so er... roll on the new record really.

Now back to my jet lag...

Didn't know you were there. It would have been nice to say hello to you. As it was, I only chatted briefly afterwards with Nick, Dave and Sam. And experienced the soft sensuous touch of Jemma's luxuriant lips (ok, it was only a peck on the cheek. But I have a vivid imagination).

Next time around...

I'm presuming you were all able to catch the World Cup Final a few hours before the gig, right? Would have been midday Los Angeles time (4pm in Rio) when the game started?

We were stood right by him and ended up moving to the back so we could dance about. It was also due to some girl who, despite the space, was pushing right up against us all through the first half of the gig, did our nut in. Lots of elbowing backwards and she still didn't move. Apart from that, really enjoyed the gig Laugh

Nice to meet you Andy.

Met Steve and Gillian in Amoeba Records on the morning of the LA gig. That one was also great, what an amazing venue. Just wish I'd had standing tickets as people were a bit slow to stand up.

Oh and thanks to Andy Robinson for securing me the set list from the LA gig, and passes to the Aftershow with drinks for us all. Andy and Whitney Fierce (from Hercules and The Love Affair) were DJ's and played some amazing stuff, including a random Kid Creole number - we were dancing all night.

Back to reality now and eating jam butties for the foreseeable.

was out of the N.O. loop for a while but then kind of got back into it all a few weeks ago (maybe a month by this point) and damn somehow the fact that they were playing in San Francisco completely went under my radar, i arrived there literally a day after their concert for a trip/my own personal gig early the next week and my god i was disappointed/incredulous
well, at the very least at least those 2 new songs (both of which i was reeal pleasantly surprised/enthralled with) point to a possible new release/tour after, just hoping they include us in the leg again
