Last summer New Order filmed a fascinating documentary for the Swedish National Television programme Hitlåtens Historia on the story of Blue Monday.

With candid commentary and footage from Bernard Sumner, Stephen & Gillian Morris, Peter Hook and Peter Saville this is a brilliant insight into how one of the greatest ever tracks was made.

Nice one for posting, not seen before, intersecting to see how the track was put together and it's influences, some I knew about and some I didn't,t.

Very nice documentary. Flawless. Not much that I didn't already know, though. The brilliant slip up in the bassline was new to me. Nice to see Bernard and Steven in action together. Bernard as the mad scientist and Steven as the lab rat.

Thanks, that were good.Knew most of the story already i.e where the influences came from etc but one thing i learned was where the title Blue Monday came from.

It came to my mind while watching that there has actually been other record sleeves with die cut holes in but as far as i know none made a loss as a result of having a hole in. Dazzleships by OMD is one that springs to mind ( i think that was also designed by Saville).Though maybe that didn't make a loss because it was an LP so each copy would have made more money than a 12" single though the sleeve would have cost the same as Blue Monday to make? I'm sure there have been singles with a die cut sleeve though.

A pity New Order never actually did go ahead with their original idea for Blue Monday and leave it playing itself as the encore.Well as far as i know they never did.

I think the reason it was never played like the original idea was to do with the vocals. I seem to remember Steve had spent ages programming a machine that would do the vocals in a robotic voice but somehow accidently deleted it. Im surprised they didnt cover this on the documentary unless it wasnt true.

Excellent documentary! It makes me excited for the new album (or ep) since they are going down a more electronic path!

Simply perfect. In my opinion that's the way what a upcoming New Order's full length documentary should be.

Awww, the part with Hooky looking at the signed sleeve was kinda poignant.

I'd love to see a full length documentary like this, New Order simply talking about how they make their music. Really cool to see them pulling out the original gear they used for the original recording. Would have liked to have heard a bit more from Gillian though.

The part with Hooky and the sleeve was poignant.....but that part where Bernard says "No comment"...that look in his eyes says a lot. I was really surprised by that section of the documentary.

Great documentary that was. Yeah I'd love to see a 2 hour documentary in that vein, talking about the instruments/synths used etc.

One of my favorite bits. I believe it's the same Vikings pin that Johnny Giles gave me last summer (making me, finally, an official Viking, I suppose). What a great week that was.
