Per Entertainment weekly, New Order will perform on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on July 25th thus completing the task of playing both late night shows with a host named Jimmy.

Wonder what song will be broadcast? Please not another bland version of "BLT" with Bernard's awful hop around silly uncle dancing featured, it is cringe worthy, and Americans' will think he is a gay. Seriously, I wonder if the people at the network will BEG him not to dance like he did on Kimmel. It is not even funny, just sad to watch on camera.

"Age of Consent" would be great, or "Your Silent face" would be cool, or even "Love Vigilantes" is timeless. Or a short version of "Temptation", if Bernard can find something to do in the song other than hop around.

Totally agree (on Barney's dance). Quite ridiculous to be shown in a broadcast...

And yes, "Your Silent Face" live would be cool.

If you're so concerned about the dancing, perhaps you shouldn't tune in until someone like Chris Brown is scheduled.

An old friend of mine watched that debacle with me, and said, "He just destroyed some of the best memories of my youth" --- it was THAT bad ---

not sure why you are worried that he would be perceived as gay, though. is that something terrible? i am straight and married, live in the US, and don't care whether he is straight or gay.... is this really something he needs to be concerned about?

i was more concerned that he just looked like an old fool. chubby singers over the age of 50 just don't look good dancing like skinny 20 year olds.

I actually quite enjoyed the performance of I'll Stay With You but have to agree the BLT performance was rough. As some more seasoned fans pointed out and YouTube bears out - there is something about tv performances with them that neve works out right. That being said I was at the Kimmel taping in 05 and they were great IMO. That was the first time I ever saw them live and i may be glorifying the memory. then the next night they killed it in Oakland. My friend who was with me at both and more neutral a fan said it was like seeing two different bands and Oakland converted him to huge fan.

Well you got Love Vig, as requested. That's just been broadcast tonight & hopefully somebody will put up the youTube footage as they did a great job & the audience got really into it. After LV they played Regret but that wasn't shown. I've no idea if that's going to surface somewhere.

Did they not play any electronic masterpiece this time?

I've seen a lot of rock stuff in these broadcasts in the last years... Well, I really love "Love Vigilantes" (that's one of my favorites) and "Regret" or the Joy Division stuff, but sometimes they ALSO could play "Blue Monday" (as they did in the 80s on "Top of the Pops" and "Veronica's Countdown") or any other electronic classic track.

I suspect the guitar-driven stuff just plays better on TV-- watching people stand behind banks of computers is not the most exciting thing unless they're wearing Daft Punk suits or whatever. (Plus a guitared Bernard is less likely to bust out the dad dancing.)

Love Vigilantes was well done and a solid choice. As I said somewhere else, I've always had the impression that it is one of the better known tracks for non-fans as it is played relentlessy on SiriusXM and been covered by a handful of artists. Regret was solid too and is available on-line at www.nbc.com.

I'm very surprised to see Gillian on keyboards during "Love Vigilantes"... And yes, that version is quite good. Tom did a great job, that's the fact. "Regret" sounds better than the "Bestival" CD but not so great as early 90s versions.

But I insist they should play more electronic based songs in the broadcasts. They did it very well other times because New Order is not just a bunch or static guys behind machines... (well, but Bernard could stop his ridiculous dance anyway)

The thing with many of the dancier tracks like Blue Monday is they are quite long by conventional standards so might not fit a TV show with a tight schedule. You've got 3.5 minutes to do your thing so might not do justice to some of the longer tracks.

I saw both performances on the NBC site and thought they came across really well.

The band pulled off two pretty solid performances; even Barney's vocal was of a consistent quality.

Will the BLT grumblers give it a rest now? ;-)

Andy was kind enough to invite me backstage for the Fallon show. I got to hang out with the band in their dressing room before and after the performance...basically spent a total of two and a half hours sitting in the dressing room hanging out and chatting with them.

They were all very friendly and cool. Steve and I had a nice talk about the From Punk to Couture exhibit at the Met, and he also showed me the Fairlight Sampler App he has in his iPhone. Also had a really interesting discussion with Bernard and Steve about sequencing technology now vs. 10-15 years ago.

Bernard also told me about doing Getting Away With it with Johnny Marr. It was totally unrehearsed and Johnny asked him to do it about three hours before showtime.

Bernard also confirmed my observation that when he did Crystal with the Killers in Manchester, they used the same backing track for Crystal as New Order does. Bernard brought it to the gig with him and they rehearsed it a few times during soundcheck. Apparently, during the actual gig itself, his ear monitor went out and he couldn't hear anything. Still sounded really good.

Spoke with Gillian about cheezy horror and Sci Fi films. We are both pretty excited about Sharknado!

Had a really funny discussion with Phil about how fucking difficult the keyboard parts for True Faith are to play (they sound simple, but are pretty tough to play, kudos to Gillian for writing them). Phil also got a kick out of my "Synth Hero air keyboarding". He's a really funny guy. Also, he gave me a glass of wine.

Spoke with Tom for a bit about football. Always have a good chat with him.

I also got to meet the bands road crew. Nice bunch of guys, and very funny.

Johnny Giles and I got to watch the performance from the studio.Ace.

Added bonuses: Met ?uestlove of the Roots! He literally shook my hand as soon as I came off of the elevator, he is a brilliant drummer, such a sweet guy! Met Jimmy Fallon too! Also said hi to Andy Samberg.

All over, a great night, and a special thanks to Andy Robinson and Johnny Giles for getting me in, and thanks to the band for thinking I am ok enough to hang out with.

I have to say this....New Order are pretty much THE main reason I became a musician. Getting to sit on a couch for 45 minutes with Steve and Bernard and talk about making music was, for me as a musician, just a really amazing experience. Not everyday you get to talk shop with the people who inspired you.

Also, and I really have to say this...New Order and their crew are all really nice, lovely people. I mean it. They are all intelligent, down to earth, and just plan cool.

New Fucking Order.

PS- JG, thanks for the Viking badge! Glad I'm official. :)

I saw the clips of the performance this morning; they sounded absolutely on point and fresh...great to see they still carry that power.

Also, as someone mentioned before, Tom Chapman sounds really good! (I know they aren't his basslines but his playing was as crisp as hell) I would love to hear what kind of basslines he'll contribute on New Order's future releases.

I realise this may sound a bit cynical but...
The people standing behind the band, um were they told to look lively (and young) and clap their hands if they wanted to get on tv?
I felt like I was watching Sesame street when they had a special guest on.
Performance was fine though.

All those girls looked cute and like they were having fun. Maybe some had even heard of New Order.

Love Vigilantes was more rock-ish mix than traditionally. A good choice for the show, a lot more people have heard of that song now than back in the 80s in the US.

Crikey, rather you than me mate. The thought of meeting my idols horrifies me. Who on earth would want to meet them? Ugh.Only a borderline psychopath would want to meet their idols, surely? Still, each to their own. Saw Barney a couple of times in the Hacienda in about 1990 and it was too weird. Stayed well out of his way.
