http://www.thebookseller...s-memoir-transworld.html

Transworld has signed an autobiography from New Order lead singer Bernard Sumner, with plans to publish in autumn 2014.

The musician has been part of the Manchester music scene since the 1970s, having been a founding member and guitarist for Joy Division, before going on to lead New Order.

Doug Young at Transworld signed UK and Commonwealth rights, including serial, in an auction with Kevin Conroy Scott at Tibor Jones on behalf of Prime Management.

Sumner said: “Joy Division and New Order have both left quite a legacy but up until now I've been happy to let the music speak for itself. Somehow it feels like the right time to give my personal perspective both on my own life story and the many bands I’ve been in.”

The as-yet-untitled book will explore Sumner’s formation of Joy Division alongside Ian Curtis, his relationship with band mate Peter Hook, and the inspiration for Blue Monday, the biggest selling 12” single of all time.

Will Bernard have time to write a memoir and at the same time work on new music with New Order?
Or will the music side of things be put on the back burner..

Not before time that we get to hear straight from the horses mouth. Definitely could be interesting. I'll probably get it on kindle if available as such and also a paper copy, having seen the silly prices for David Nolan's Confusion book on Amazon! I requested that on kindle cos its so much easier to read than holding an actual book, but no cigar. Must get round to reading it sometime - at this rate, probably when I'm an OAP.

yes why is David Nolan's Confusion book about Bernard so expensive now on Amazon? anything between £291 and £364 , GULP.

Couldn't find it on ebay .Wondered what it'd fetch on there. I do have a copy, paid about £12 back when it came out.

Should be really interesting, Barneys got an interesting story to tell. I never sed to want new order to speak, keep the mystery. But after over 30 years making music he deserves to tell his side of this amazing story. He has always kept his thoughts to himself most of the time which makes this book more interesting. In fact to be honest I have never looked forward to reading a book so much, almost. As much as a new record

I'll be interested to know how much LSD he really did take while recording Power, Corruption & Lies and if he really did indeed wear a Professor's white coat during those sessionsLaugh

I'm interested in this, but honestly the #1 book I'd want to read is Steve's. Wasn't he working on something a couple of years ago?

he is as interesting as anyone in music, he has a sense of humor i like, and, as his words and voice give the songs a personality easy to relate to , and so easy to love, i suspect/expect his book to be similar .

Well a guy can dream can't he? I have a recurrent dream in which Melanie C feeds me Strongbow naked while Camern Diaz pisses on my eyes and Kirsten Dunst inserts two manicured fingers into my anal passage. My psychologist says it reflects my desire that Melanie C feeds me Strongbow naked while Camern Diaz pisses on my eyes and Kirsten Dunst inserts two manicured fingers into my anal passage. I pay him fifty pounds an hour.
My original point was that I'm looking forward to this tome but as the Barnster's a 'methodical' (i.e. fucking slow) worker I hope it won't block new stuff (NO, BL, Stuart Price...???). I'm more interested in hearing new stuff than yet another nostalgia fest. We've got the Light for that!
Incidentally, I know this is ancient, but I just heard the darren Price mix of Make It happen. I love the gutsy guitar licks circa 1.22, reminds me of how the Crazy World ITYS builds up at the end.
