According to Musikmarkt.de New Order will release a live recording of their Bestival 2012 gig.

Quote:
Auch PIAS war bei der Vertriebstagung in Köln am Start. ... Von New Order wird es zudem einen Live-Mitschnitt vom "Bestival 2012" geben.

It's not gonna be much different from the Troxy performance, is it?

They also did Here To Stay, Isolation and Transmish at Bestival but yeah the bones of it will be like the Troxy. I'm surprised they didn't choose to release the Festival No 6 performance as that was professionally recorded by the BBC and does feature some of their "best" performances. I recorded the iPlayer stream at the time and they're really tight at No 6 with even Bernard's vocal sounding better than usual. Made me think they were gearing it up for a commercial release but perhaps not.

To be fair Hooky's been churning out the Unknown Pleasures live shows for a while now with mostly the same sets (bar a few tracks at the beginning/end); so far he's had 4 Unknown Pleasures-based live recordings for sale in one official capacity or another. Not knocking it but it goes without saying if either side release live shows these days there's going to be a lot of similarities in the set.

saw OMD two years ago (and some other acts have done it) and was able to purchase the show I attended on a jump drive 20 minutes after the show ended. Why more artists do not do it, I don't know? Charge me $60 to see the show and get another $20 out of me for a recording and I would think the artist cleans up. Plus it takes the piss of out of bootleggers. I would love to see New Order offer something like this on the summer US shows. It allows those attending to remember the classic Barney quips of the night, cause those are the things that have a tendency to change from show to show, along with 2-3 tracks a night, maybe.

As for Bestival, I would buy it for Here to Stay live alone. I thought it was great last year in Oakland and really liked how by the time they hit the US it was a nice full version whereas when it started in Australia it was a quick hitting 4 minute number.

They'd have done better to release the Festival No.6 recording, like Ally said . A bit more interesting with the The Prisoner samples. And a better gig if nothing else

I think there's a basic difference between "Troxy" and this "forthcoming live recording": the first one is a "limited edition" sold only by mail order or to download. Probably the new one will be released in a ordinary commercial format and can be purchased in any record shop.

But, my personal opinion is it would be much better if New Order release a live DVD or blu-ray rather than another live album.

It could also be a way of New order getting back at Peter for releasing the Movement/PC&L live cd that he did with the light, otherwise why would NO release a live cd of a festival they did a year ago, again I could be wrong, it is only my opinion.

At least a fair whack of this show (if not all) was pro-shot in HD from what I can tell, so I guess a DVD/BluRay is not impossible - check youtube, seems the second half of the setlist is already around the traps; none of the songs before Isolation on the setlist appear though...

I personally don't see the need in either now. When you look at the quality of some of the video uploads on Youtube now, especially with lots of major festivals streaming live then what's the point of a live CD and/or DVD?

Considering you can actually watch New Order live from just one week ago at Coachella on Youtube ... then what's the point of forking out hard cash for, say, an appearance from Bestival a good six+ months ago?

The only things now worth releasing are surely from yesteryear, back in the 80s or whatever, when they were at a totally different beast live and when audience recordings (video, especially) were in their infancy.

NME reporting on it today:

Quote:
New Order have announced the release of a new live album.

'Live At Bestival 2012', recorded at Rob and Josie da Bank's annual bash last year, will be released on CD and download on July 8. All profits will go to the Isle Of Wight Youth Truth.

Drummer Stephen Morris said: "We played at so many festivals in 2012, and our highlights were, without doubt, the last two in the UK, Portmeirion and Bestival. Saturday night was fancy dress night, and Gillian enjoyed dressing up in her peacock head-dress.

"This charity release is a special way to mark the Bestival experience, and we're thrilled to be working with Rob and Josie's team to raise money for such a worthy cause on the island. It's great to give something back, and also to give such a brilliant crowd something to remember the show by. And if you weren’t there, buy the CD and enjoy the experience that way!"

'Live At Bestival 2012' is New Order's third live album following 1992's 'BBC Radio 1 Live In Concert' and 2011's 'Live At The London Troxy'. The band is gearing up to curate a day of live music from Manchester's Jodrell Bank on July 7 - with Johnny Marr, The Whip, ex Bad Lieutenant man Jake Evans and Hot Vestry all set to join them.

The 'Live At Bestival 2012' tracklisting in full is:

'Elegia'
'Regret'
'Isolation'
'Krafty'
'Here To Stay'
'Bizarre Love Triangle '
'586'
'The Perfect Kiss'
'True Faith'
'Blue Monday'
'Temptation'
'Transmission'
'Love Will Tear Us Apart'

Me too, as usual. Smile

But my biggest deception with the two last album sleeves ("Troxy" and "Lost Sires") is because Peter Saville was no longer involved with the art direction. Frown

And I'm tired of the white backgrounds ("International", "Sirens", "Singles", "Total" and "Troxy"). The graphic design made for "Lost Sirens" is beautiful, but not much creative, the front cover, a highly pixelated version from a photo by Eliot Elisofon for Life Magazine used on the cover of the single WFTSC, has some resemblance with Saville's colors code. And the tracklist with the overlapped typography remembers the visual concept of "Confusion" a little bit.

The Glastonbury release was something of a mixed blessing. Back in those days it was nice to have a 'new' slice of vinyl for the collection and to enjoy some of their best tracks on one LP instead of leaping from one 12" / album to another. But the production was poor and they edited out whole songs, Hooky's vocals (not that I minded, actually) and the inter-track comments that made the show interesting. The Reading 98 DVD was edited too, presumably to leave space for snoozefest Taras Shevwanko. Shame... Reading 93 also got a BBC Radio 1 airing with strong production but edits too, so it was still worth purchasing the bootleg.

So it's not out for almost two months.
I can't see it on Amazon for pre-order ,or mentioned on newordernow.net. Are we sure this is going to be a proper commercial release, or could it just be through Sunday Best's website?
Too bad they aren't offering a deluxe version with bonus dvd. I know there's lots of stuff on youtube, but if they offered a 2 disc version, I for one would pay a few quid more for it.

I really like the sleeves of the In Sessions, I wished they did something similar to it.

I think these pictures on the sleeve would have looked good with the title on it, they are taken from the Bestival new order concert.
