They were involved with the main album remastering back then, however when it came to the second disc material (the stuff that got messed up) they left it to the label.

Hooky mentions something here about new Boxset/ Reissues

http://www.vanyaland.com...rs-series-is-on-the-way/

His actual comments are slightly more vague than the headline "Peter Hook says massive New Order box sets are on the way" would suggest.

Quote:
“Warners are doing a collector’s series of the albums, a box set that will be more like that,” Hook tells the website. “I got a wonderful present for my 60th birthday which was Led Zeppelin II, complete with all the flyers and gig posters, a vinyl edition — it was wonderfully done, and I took it and showed it to Warner Bros. and said, ‘This is how our next reissue should be.’ You know, really give the fans something to treasure. We’re working towards that aim — thank God.”

Pink Floyd released in November 2016 a 28 disc set, which looks nonsensical. But it could do as a reference for New Order: a box full demos, outtakes, unreleased tracks, live versions and lots of photos and memorabilia (posters, flyers, etc), all packaged in an astonishing Saville's artwork. Fingers crossed. Wink

I'm surprised you haven't had a rant about flogging dead horses etc.

I'm not sure I care that much if they're re-issuing individual albums again. I'd be surprised if there are new gems waiting to be discovered. So, we're paying for some fancy new packaging and replica "flyers" that might've gone in the bin if they were handed to me at a gig? I guess they'll be remastered again, but will that make a big difference to most people? I doubt it.

As for Substance 2 which Mr Remmer has been coyly hinting at but then not wanting to spill the beans on...
Things of course, changed shortly after the first Substance. House music came along in '88 and it's influence spawned numerous 12" mixes of each track. Up until then it was easy to plonk THE 12" version of a single on to Substance (yeah I know, a couple of tracks were re-recordings...).
Doing a definitive Substance 2 when there were lots of 12" versions surely isn't going to work so well (Bogle mix of RIAD anyone?). I suspect some of y'all already have a compilation on your computers of your favourite post-Substance singles/remixes. Do we need to buy an official one? Well maybe a 2018 remaster of Scumfrog's take on Here To Stay is what's missing from our lives...

Oh maybe they'll do things I haven't thought of...I dunno. For now though, my only real hope for NO is that they'll make one more decent album before they pick up their free bus passes.

On 5 July Hooky boned a ho. This bodes well for the box set as BOned, BOx set and BOde start with BO, like BOth if there were three words and not two. Also 5 July is a date and Stephen and Gillian used to date before getting married, and the box set should have a release date. Also date is a type of food and we need food to live and not die and if you take the word not and take the last letter off you get the initials of New Order. It's all so thrilling.

Apologies, I thought it was clear. Hence I shall repeat the awesome, stunning, wondrousful world of New Order rererererererereleases:

1. A tiny, minimal, amoeba-size suggestion something just might like y'know could ummmm may maybe be on the cards.
2. Everyone on NOOL forums gets an instant boner and with their free hand bashes out mutually exclusive track listings that are so HOT they make a Hawaiian sauna with Mel C and Cameron D look like a dip in Skegness with D Cameron and Merkel.
3. I say Fuck you, the majors don't give a fuck, there'll be sweet Fanny Adams for 3 years and even then it'll be like anal sex, i.e. fucking shit.
4. They respond, No fuck YOU you negativeness cynicalisms fucking wanker, why is you always so whingeful and whiningness and moanables and groaningists, I mean HELLO? Does yer even LIKING New Order? WE WANT OUR BONERS so kindly point yours away from our joint bonfire.
5. The majors don't give a fuck, there's sweet Fanny Adams for 3 years and even then it's like anal sex, i.e. fucking shit.
6. Repeat until you find someone to bone.

Saw 'Box Set' thread. Instantly thought there'd been an announcement.

Saw Michael had gone off at the deep end and started posting on old threads.

Went back to sleep again waiting for a) news to be posted on the (probably disappointing) box set on other sites or b) Michael to inevitably resurrect this thread again, just to p me off. 😊

Oh, and Michael, I've given you enough ammunition for at least one double-entendre ('gone off', 'deep', 'end', 'deep end' and, thinking about it, 'ammunition' now).
Go on, I dare you. 😉

So, just to bring this back on track, what are people hoping for in a box set?

What style of set do you want?
Are you hoping for one giant box set and, if so, do you want it with all albums, singles and other miscellaneous tracks, or are you hoping for a box of rarities like the recent Pink Floyd mega-set?
Perhaps you're hoping for individual sets, released a few months apart? If so, would you rather 'singles' sets, like the Depeche Mode ones of the 90s? Or do you want better 'album' sets than the ones previousy released, perhaps in the Super Deluxe style of 4-5 discs per set (including album, singles, b-sides, rarities, demos, a live album from the period, DVD of music videos and TV appearances from the era etc.)

And what about actual content?
Is there anything specific you really want to see? Audio or video.

Also, do you want JD material included or would you rather a separate set?

I think, preferably, I would absolutely love a giant Rarities box set, full of demos, rare tracks, a rare gig or two on audio and lots of video footage.
Failing that, I think I'd like the Super Deluxe album releases option.

As for actual content, I'd like to see an official release of the frankly wonderful Western Works demos, but would pretty much love to see any demos included in the set.
Video footage is where I'd like the focus placed though (I really doubt there's many fully-formed audio demos / unreleased tracks out there; most are probably jam-sessions). Video wise, I'd love it to include pretty much all of the live TV performances, especially the 80s stuff (Celebration, Riverside, Countdown, Switch, Musik Convoy, DJ, Pop Elektron, Rock Around The Clock, OGWT, TOTP, The Roxy, BWC etc.). Maybe include the interview segments from some of those appearances too (Countdown, Pop Elektron etc.). And 'Play At Home' definitely needs a release.
Would also love to see some of the live footage out there that we have seen before but has been unavailable for years (A Factory Video/Complication/Outing, Estoc De Pop etc.) but also things that we know exist but we've never seen (all of the Glastonbury 81 footage, the Apollo 98 gig etc.). Would be nice to get a few complete gigs as well, especially from the 80s, as there ain't too much of that available.

I know a lot of the TV footage is already out there (on YouTube etc.) but I think it would be great to get this in exceptional quality and just to have it officially released.

In respect of JD, I'm not sure they really need another box set. Audio wise, everything is pretty much covered by Heart & Soul (barring a few early demos, complete RCA, Genetic Demos and Piccadilly Session). I guess, there might be some gigs never bootlegged previously that could be released.
I think I'd just rather they realised a DVD of the JD stuff. In fact, I have no idea why they haven't done this already.
You could pretty much fit everything there is by JD on a DVD or two.

Consider a DVD with the following:

LWTUA videos (both versions)
Atmosphere video
Shadowplay on Granada Reports
What's On performance of She's Lost Control
Something Else performance of Transmission, She's Lost Control plus the Wilson/Morris interview
Apollo footage (complete for both nights)
Eindhoven footage (all tracks filmed)
Bowden Vale footage
Plan K gig (the fabled footage)
No City Fun film
Whitehead film

Those last three things would be monumental and would shift a lot of copies, I feel.
Perhaps the excellent Grant Gee doc could also be included, as that would add some exposition / commentary to the disc(s). In fact, I always thought they missed a trick with that documentary. They had access to the Whitehead movie, the What's On footage and the Plan K gig, but only showed brief clips. Why didn't they release a three disc special edition with all the above footage?

Anyway, thoughts from anyone...

I forgot the other classic: 'There was a great box set years ago by some shitty useless fucking group who never ever had fuck all at all ever to do with New Order ever, so fingers crossed.'
One of the strange things about NO is how gems get lost (Let's Go - Waiting For So Long) while crap like The Other Two and Raise The Pressure get full-lown media hype. Freebass' Tower urinates over the EP but is now harder to find than a dry Mel C DVD in my house.

There was going to be a DVD of Here are the Young Men as part of the Control hype but it never etc, maybe because the ''''''''''quality'''''''''' is like a Parkinson's victim holding a Betamax camera through a letterbox in Stoke on Monday morning for a damp tenner. Badly.
The Grunt Gee doc is horrible. How much money do these 'anti-commercialists' want to eke out of a corpse? Mind you, it's not quite as cringeworthy as NOStory. Paul Borely sums up everything I hate about mucous journalism and for some reason I've never been able to fathom NO journalism in particular. 'This is the metaphysical narrative extraneous story of New Order, a gleaming axle grease momentous goblin lurking through the murky mucky hills at midnight in a dank dark meadow of Summer leaved ashen bark for greening commerce in prolix peabodies.'
Gillian: Yes! Ha ha ha!
Steve: Aye lad, something like that.
Bernard: I was scared to take over from Ian. It just didn't scare me.
Peter: Fuck, cunt.
Tony: Manchester was always and would always be Manchester and out of Manchester there came Manchester and its Manchester.
