Bernard Sumner - Somos Magazine, Perú (16/3/2013)
https://www.facebook.com/download/628726527152932/ENTREVISTA%20NO.pdf

the interview is in spanish

Is there a young band that you'd like to work with?
Well, in fact last night I played with The Killers. We made a song together and it was great. Besides, on the new album we're working with The Chemical Brothers

There was a suggestion either here or on Gillian's twitter recently (I'm too lazy to check) that NO should say nothing until they have something new out and then just hit people with it. I quite like that idea as it doesn't build up expectations or endless presupposing . But at the same time when you get a little titbit like this, you can't help wanting to know about it.

I went off the Killers after their first album, but the Chems I like.

If they've been working with (or plan to work with) The Chemical Brothers, that's great IMO. Cool

Great news. I loved "out of control" let's hope the new stuff sounds similar to it and stays similar to the New Order sound and it will make all of us very happy, glad to know they are in the studio working on stuff , I wonder how many songs they already have finished.

This news doesn't make me happy, Their collaborations with other artists, no matter how talented they may be, tend to disappoint i.e. Rock The Shack, Turn My Way, Jetstream..

I wish they would just do their own thing and have the confidence to go it alone..

Maybe it's not a collaboration like 'Jetstream' was, but rather like a co-production, like 'Here To Stay' (they worked with the Chems on this song).

Out of control was a pretty cool song!! I wonder when the new album will be released? Hopefully by the end of this year, or early next year. I can't wait longer than that!!

Chemical Bros are not a "young band", thou if producing, they did a good job at interpreting the 80s style on "Out of Control"... but that was 15+ years ago.

Bernard has said that a new album would be an "electronic" album, so having the Chems be a producer sounds right. I don't really like the "guest" songs either, at least not on an album... leave the remixes or guest spots for a single release.

Of course, with Bernard, you are not sure if he is saying "we have worked with the them" or "we are going to work with them" or "we were thinking about working with them". He has said he was going/is/has worked with Stuart Price like 3 different times... and we don't really know what they actually have done yet.

I hope whatever they do, they explicitly ignore the bitching and over-analysing that goes on, on here.

Otherwise they'll never get anything done Smile

If New Order want more one-dimensional songs like Here To Stay, hire The Chemical Brothers.

Turn my way is a great track.

I would love them to self produce again. Or maybe as hooky is no longer part of the band he could produce it.

"Rock the Shack" is really a boring track and "Jetstream" is one of the worst latest singles... But "Turn My Way" sounds really good to me and "Here to Stay" is superb. The guys from Chemical Bros. are New Order's fans and they did an excelent job producing "Here to Stay", so I can imagine a good forthcoming album from the new line up of the band.

Turn My Way is a decent tune but I don't think it needed Billy's backing vocals to make it so.

Turn My Way wasn't really a collaboration with Corgan, he merely "appeared" on it and doesn't get a song-writing credit. There's a Corgan-less mix titled Shipwreck Of A Broken Man doing the rounds on t'internet which is much better if you don't like Corgan's vocal abilities (I don't). No arguments on Rock The Shack or Jetstream though, both terrible. Even Here To Stay was a bit lukewarm for me; not terrible but bizarrely nowhere near as good as Out Of Control and the production's a bit messy, drum machine stuttering along with way too much going on in the mix. American fans seem to love it though.

How anyone can rate Here To Stay as a good song is beyond me. Always baffled me how some people think it's a great song. Someone on NOOL back in 2002 even went as far as saying Here To Stay was a better song than There Goes The Fear by Doves, which was out around the same time. Lol ,dear oh dear.

Thanks again wrote:

Here's why.

I am one of the fans who responds more to the synth-based songs. After reuniting in 1998, the first new song they released was Brutal, which I don't rate. It set the stage for Get Ready, which I think is their worst album by a long shot - and part of my opinion is influenced by having received a CD-R of the album in progress, which included tracks like Player In The League, that weren't on the finished album once it appeared a few months later. I think Crystal is a really boring song, and not the rousing comeback that a lot of the British fans seem to favor.

I'll listen to Jetstream on repeat before I listen to Get Ready.

Outside Underworld, Chemical Brothers, and a handful of other acts, '90s electronic music was dreadful. It was nothing but an endless parade of tuneless remixes, hard trance, techno, and complete bullsh*t.

So when Here To Stay was released, it was a revelation. Here was the synth-pioneering band I loved, doing a proper synthy pop tune - the first such that New Order had released in 9 years, coming 4 years after their reunion. I never thought I'd get that again.

I don't think it holds up over time, but in 2002 I was clinging to it, because it gave me a glimpse of the band I'd fallen in love with. This also came on the tail of other British bands I'd grown up with (The Cure, Depeche Mode) releasing weak and disappointing albums.

Good points, Fiddy, and well put.

Personally I like the lyrics to HTS a lot. That gang mentality that fits with much of Get Ready for me.

Mind you I like Jetstream a lot too, so people rarely come to me for advice about what to listen to.
