I was watching this again recently and began to wonder something. The journalist character that Rob Brydon plays, who annoys Tony Wilson by getting George Martin and Brian Epstein mixed up among other things - does anyone know if he's based on a real person, or is he made up/fictional?

On a different note, I still love Sean Harris's portrayal of Ian Curtis in this. His Ian seems to be more the 'band' version of Ian I suppose, but he's very watchable in the role.

I always thought the guy who plays 'Merlin', in the BBC show of the same name, would make a good Ian if any more cinematic outings are ever on the cards.

From memory I think Brydons character represented journalists in general, he kind of covered most of the daft questions Wilson had to answer to over the years. The Epstein/Martin mix-up may have been from an anecdote Wilson told the screen writer but Im a bit hazy on that one.

I think Sean Harris was great as Curtis and its a pity that that other bloke out of Control has sort of overshadowed him. I think the miserable bastards won that, the ones who insist on Curtis being remembered as a gloomy, gothic, 'prophet of urban decay' while I think Harris managed to portray a bit of that but also a bit of a beery twat shouting out 'cunt' in barsLaugh

Afraid not. The only JD/NO related release available on Blu-Ray is Control.

Agreed, but I do think Sean Harris is pretty mesmerising in any role. He's got something about him that draws my attention regardless of what is going on onscreen.
