The song prompted litigation involving the British group New Order. The band's single "Run 2" (1989) was the subject of a lawsuit brought by John Denver, who argued that its wordless guitar break was based on his "Leaving on a Jet Plane". An out-of-court settlement ensured that the song would never be re-released in its original form.[6] God then showed his displeasure with Denver by smiting him in a plane crash. God loves New order, FACT.

He went down in the Monterey Bay less than a mile from where I live. They named a beach after him.

Dug the 12" out today which i was lucky enough to get when it came out, August 89.

Scot Litt's remix was great, really brought Hooky's bass out. The extended version with the beats on the other hand is possibly the WORST EVER remix of a New Order tune, ugh.

Oh, the 12" isn't that bad. I'm not sure if it is a lazy remix, or he didn't want to ruin the beautiful song, since the remix is basically just some beats pasted on top of the original song. I'm not sure how you would turn "Run" into a house tune. Keyboards with breakbeats, with the guitar and drums deleted?

I also have the 12" which is principally of interest for its rarity value - only 20,000 copies and a washing-powder cover! I always assumed the limited edition approach was part of Factory's love of one-offs but I recently read it was precisely cos of this legal issue. The 'official' mix is cool as it stream-lines the rather meandering original into a tight single, but the remix is pretty shite and ultimately a waste of time. The B-side MTO is an intriguing but inessential minimalist house track sampling Fine Time and Bizarre Love Triangle - again, the most interesting thing about it was its rarity status (never rereleased till that iffy batch of reissues).

The sleeve of my copy is battered to feck. Had to do some repair, glued the seams back together. The record itself fortunately still sounds as good as newSmile

The brilliantly quirky video to Run2 is in my opinion the best New Order video. Life affirming, as they used to say once upon a time.

actually i think the 7 inch promo was rarer,
only 500 copies of this..

http://www.discogs.com/N...der-Run-2/release/209243

and of course the promo cassette with the unreleased
mixes is the rarest of all..

still, not that interesting.

i like mto and the mto remix though.

I remember when I first understood why Factory went bust; it was when I noticed that the inside of sleeve of the 12" of Run was coloured gold. Bearing in mind this was about 15 years after I bought it I think its fair to say that the extra printing costs involved were somewhat unnecessary!

I just noticed that yesterday that the inside is gold. May have noticed it when i first bought it though and had long forgotten. Saw on ebay that the original inner sleeve was gold too. The inner i've had in it as long as i can remember is a standard white paper. I do however have a gold inner in the sleeve for my copy of the 12" World In Motion remixes ( Carabinieri, No Alla Violenza mix etc). The outer sleeve for that of course is gold and for years i'd assumed the gold inner went with it. Am now wondering if i've mixed up Run 2 gold inner with the WIM Remixes white paper inner at some point years ago. Anyway i've now taken the gold inner and used it for the Run2 inner and used the standard white paper inner for the WIM Remixes 12".My copy of Run2 feels properly complete with a gold inner sleeveSmile

EDIT; looked on Discogs and WIM Remix 12" Fac293R does indeed appear to have been released with white paper inner so the gold inner i have is for Run2.Glad that's cleared up.Life's about the little things sometimesBig Grin

Yeah my copy of WIM remix 12" and Run had (probably still have!) gold inner sleeves. Sometimes I think I had more fun accumulating NO releases than actually listening to 'em. Bugger this Internetty thing, it's too easy.

is it just me that dances along with the girl at the end of the video? if i'm too drunk to stand i'll just wave my arms about an spin about in my chair. but I *gotta* move...

that said, its almost kind of weird she totally ignores the camera and doesn't smile.
