http://stereogum.com/122...ohnny-marr-qa/interview/Interesting interview with Johnny Marr. When talking about his upcoming live sets he mentions that some Electronic tracks will get aired, including Forbidden City. Here's hoping he heads to the US like he did in 2003 with the Healers. I'd quite like to hear him play Forbidden City.

Free Will was played live by Electronic as you can see from the excellent website /www.feeleverybeat.co.uk . In fact I thoroughly recommend this site, especially for its fascinating http://www.feeleverybeat.co.uk/articles/ . I'd see a Marr gig for this alone, but I'm a tart.

They cancelled the whole US tour. Saw DM on that tour at Shoreline Amphitheatre. Bought tickets before they had announced opening acts for Dodger Stadium. My friend went to one of the L.A. gigs and I was always jealous when he wore his Electronic tour shirt.

I don't think Free Will is very likely. Mainly due to the fact that it's a synth/drum machine heavy instrumental and Marr will no doubt be touring with a traditional 4/5 piece rock band. I also read somewhere that FW was allegedly "Bernard's baby" in terms of song writing with Marr contributing those guitar riffs after the initial "tune" was assembled. Can't remember where I read but it sounds credible.
Forbidden City and Vivid are better bets; maybe Out Of My League and certain tracks from Twisted Tenderness as well.
Really nice to see him paying Electronic's music some attention though. Some fans (myself included) were crying out for them to tour in the mid-to-late 90s, even just a show or two. We caught glimpses of a "live" Electronic on the likes of TFI Friday and Jo Whiley's C4 music show and they sounded bloody good.

According to Paul Lester's RTP review, Electronic were considering gigging in 96 (http://www.feeleverybeat.co.uk/albums/melodymaker6july1996.jpg)... And according to a telefax (hardly the horse's mouth I know) when they were preparing their 3rd album concerts were again mooted as part of the rockier sound. Not to be, of course. Electronic was my first ever gig - Wembly Hall, Dec '91 - and I loved it but the reviews were pretty limp. I know you gotta follow your gut not the journos, but maybe a lot of ther fun was precisely that it WAS my first gig - technically it mightn't've been perfect. Still a great memory though.

Without Bernard on the mic, it's just the Electronic track I'd most like to hear live. Spot on about Vivid, though. I understand that it was Johnny's "baby". Even down to most of the lyrics.

Johnny was asked in Q about the future of the 'Lec and he said it's possible as he's gonna tour with NO. Sounds a bit iffy to me, I can't imagine Bernard knocking out NO, Stu Price, BL and Electronic whilst touring, but we live in hope. Some time ago he also hinted there could be Electronic instrumentals, but sounds even iffier (is that a word?). Do you agree that the Lec shot their wad with the first album? I loved it back then, then I hated the limpwristed synthpap of Republicy RTP and I always thought TT degenerates into a snoozefest half-way thru.

As we all know, Barney has an itch to scratch in the form of a synth album, the reported motivation for the new NO album. I would LOVE IT if he scratched a little with FREEFALL in Las Vegas.
Were there any remixes of this track? |

Omg! Like 'em. According to the comment (which is a bit like saying 'I read in Wikipedia so it must be true') 'He did three Electronic songs - this one and "Getting Away With It".' I've counted and... He should do on Get The Message with Melanie C on backing vocals.

with bernard on hand to sing, perhaps 'make it happen', 'feel every beat', 'some distant memory', 'flicker', 'prodigal son' and 'i feel alright' will happen live, and 'california grass' will waft into the night. |
