amazing how you can all hear a few seconds of each song and determine how bad they are.
i guess it is true you are the ring-tone generation.

From someone who's definitely not from the ring-tone generation... those short bits were long enough for me to know we will be disappointed. |

I think if they had chosen to make one 12-14 track album, with some B-sides leftover, it could have been a rather crazy album all over the place. Don't know if the album would have gotten many great reviews, but it would have gotten more attention just for audacity, and a more solid set of songs. Seems like WFTSC seemed to have more "synth" songs...? Maybe the plan was to write a few possible electronic/ dance songs to fill out the proposed second album. Or maybe WFTSC was supposed to be more "dance" heavy, while the second album more "rock" heavy? Edited by user 15 December 2012 10:16:24(UTC)

When these come out I'd like to make my own Sirens LP (11 of the best tracks) and B-sides (which ones'd work better as flips e.g. Player In The League is listenable as a B-side but would have disgraced Get Ready IMO though it was originally there as Field). But I have a fuck of a lot of time on my hands.

But I have a fuck of a lot of time on my hands. I'm thinking about doing the same. I'd pick Who's Joe, Hey Now(yes, I do like it a lot, awesome bassline), WFTSC obviously, Krafty and Turn for sure. As for Lost Sirens, I doubt all 6 songs are good, so I guess it still needs a track or two from the original album.

Who's Jo DEF HNWYD Like the Oasisy tune but not the wanky sort-yerself-out-mate lyrics (cf Close Range) Sirens DEF Krafty Not my fist choice but... ITYS No MNAD Low on the list. God knows how it got compared to the Stones. DC Actually I like it cos the synth stabs remind me of Technique and Hooky's bass is up in the mix after the wank fodder of Republic and Rest Of. I even like the words - meaningless and heartfelt at the same time. So I'm in the minority but YES. Jetstream Don't know why this attracts so much bile. As Hook pointed out, it gets better with mixing, so I'd have Arthur Baker's take. Also I'd like to have sex with Ana (you can add an 'l' to that). GIAUE When I first heard it I thought Pet Shop Boys (could be a compliment) or Raise the Pressure (couldn't). But it's a grower and every NO LP needs one synth-heavy track with belting bass (cf Someone Like You) so YES. Turn ABSOLUTELY YES WO No Hellbent Too clunky for me
So far then, 6 defs. Just waiting for the Lost Sirens' call (see what I did there?).

I didn't know Mornight Night & Day got compared to the Stones, but do you mean Rolling Stones or Stone Roses? And which song? Dracula's Castle is a good song indeed, I'm in that minority as well. Arthur Baker's take on Jetstream made it vastly better, but for an album track the ideal would be something like that, but just a bit faster. All in all, I agree with Hooky regarding WFTSC's whole production. Most of it is just too vocals-driven, it feels like a waste of very good melodies, except for Working Overtime. Fuck it. Would I TOLD YOU SO have been better received as a b-side? I know it is not NewOrdery but I love this song (the WFTSC version).
Just glad LS is coming out. Finally. We can then all move on to hopefully better days. |

Yes I'm sure I read a review where MNAD got compared to the anthem rock of the Rolling Stones (not a specific song, though fact fans will be interested to know that Citadel was covered live by Revenge). Struck me as, technically speaking, fucking bollocks. Speaking of songs that are listenable but should be relegated to B-side status... Dynamo.
