I'd quite like to make an electronic record, because we've not made one for quite a while really This is good news anyway, I like the fact that when he talks about making new music his motivation is to get creative again, regardless of whether or not it is a commercially viable proposition in the age of illegal downloading.. This assessment is spot on.

"Opened the gateways of hell"
It's like Hooky's been opening shopping centres with a big pair of scissors.

The Barney/Hooky debate rages on and on... I don't know what really went on and at this point I don't care all that much. I love New Order, and I do hope that they make up at some point ( the stars and planets would line up, world peace would be declared, etc)...I doubt it will happen but I do have hopes. It's happened in the past right? I don't know who did what, although from what I have read I do lean to Barneys side in this. I'm happy he wants to create new music as New Order.I will buy it when it comes out. Peter Hook can do his thing and when he puts out another album of new material I'll give it a shot. Rogue Warrior wrote:*/rant on
The thing that pisses me off most is this..... This band is NOT NEW ORDER, their name should be "The rest of New Order featuring so and so...." when a member leaves for what ever reason, those remaining persons should not be called "that Bands original name"
Sumner even stated in 2009 that he no longer wished to make music as New Order.
*/rant off
This line of thinking makes me wonder what other bands the person who said this likes. For example, The Beatles would have not ever existed as The Beatles during the years they actually had a record contract.
AC/DC...Forget getting to Back in Black...they had another lead singer, even before Bon Scott...
Depeche Mode, The Cure and Oasis would have had to have called it a day after the first albums from each band.
There's tons more....

I do tweet quite a bit in Japanese and English, but as I don't care much for Hooky related content, normally I wouldn't care about his reaction. But still, his reaction is...LOL.

If you have such a problem with the current New Order, why the hell are you even going to see them in the first place?[/size] I am far from "immature and childish", and I don't have a problem with NO, I have a problem with the way Peter and Barney are treating each other, and I am just expressing my opinion I am going to the concert so I can say that I saw New Order w/o Peter Hook, and some day I can say(hopefully) I saw Peter Hook w/o New Order!! Maybe someday, I can Say I saw the original New Order lineup

That 'abomination' is rocking theatres all over the world. Literally everybody I spoke to in New York, whether or not they gave a shit that Hooky wasn't there, agreed that the new bassist is better. I met dozens of people who'd been to the gig including musicians, DJs, old friends of the band and journalists who they all loved Tom's input. Aged New Order fans and people who'd never seen them before; it didn't matter. Everyone loved Tom's energy and downright skill.
The only person I met who didn't enjoy the gig, a pretty well-known punk musician from Queens who I was speaking to last night, said that the only good thing about it was Tom's playing. I reminded him about the drumming and he admitted it was good but didn't like the fact that some of it was taped; he thought that was a cop out. That's how picky he was. He didn't like New Order's drum machine.
All this bollocks about 'the original lineup' is sentimental garbage, I'm afraid. "New Order Featuring..." my arse.
They should do something about that weapon with the inflatable microphone though. |

I was wondering also in what way was he better, I am guessing that Tom is roughly the age that Hooky would have been around the time of Technique so do they mean that Tom now is better than Hooky was then or are they comparing Tom's perfomrance to Hooky's in 2005-06 when New Order last toured. By the way I thought Tom did a fine job both times I saw them in the last year..

Wow, what a Hooky hating board... -bitches and moans about all his past tweets for a year ago -gives passes to Barney for his comments -gives holy hell to his son so much he ends up leaving the board -states as if Tom is better than Hooky (I like Tom, and he plays damn good, but he is no Hooky) Where the hell is the balance in this place? I can understand the animosity Hooky caused by his brash statements... but the way everyone is acting is a bit over the top if you ask me... Edited by user 23 October 2012 18:25:29(UTC)

Where the hell is the balance in this place? I can understand the animosity Hooky caused by his brash statements... but the way everyone is acting is a bit over the top if you ask me... I think it's just a fair reflection of fan sentiment on the whole, to be honest - Hooky did leave the band and subsequently hasn't been very wise or discrete in his comments regarding his former bandmates in the press, it probably follows that the majority of NO fans won't be happy with him having swipes at the other NO band members. Can't speak for everyone, but personally I didn't find this particularly endearing. While we don't know the whole story of what happened and why (and should we really know anyway?), Barney has been admirably restrained in the press much of the time by comparison, so this helps make him appear less of a knob than Hooky, at least on the basis of the interviews. With the stuff about Jack, I wasn't aware of the incident (assuming there was one) that led to him being hounded off here, but I guess if you go in to bat for Hooky on this forum and you're a member of his band, you may find some comments/questions hard work. It can't have been easy to see people slagging off his dad, from that perspective nobody deserves that. Oh, and I think Tom is pretty great too - was very impressed with him when I saw them in March and he seems to have improved the bass sound even more since; he's not better neccessarily, but certainly no worse...noticably fewer bum notes and less posing perhaps...

This is the incident with Jack, if you want to call it that.. Scroll DownAs for Hooky playing bum notes, he is hardly unique within the band in that regard. At the same time Phil and Tom are I would guess less likely to make mistakes on stage than the original members but I would still get more excited about listening to a New Order bootleg from 82-87 than anything from the recent past.

Jack was receiving some very unnecessary slagging for sometime before this. Quite honestly, I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did. He tried to act professional, and of course he'll stand up for his dad (who wouldn't), but people were just obvious dicks towards him. And to some of the other comments, I would disagree that the majority of fans take FULL issue with the Light and what they are doing. I don't think anyone is entirely happy with the current situation, but neither NO nor the Light are having any issues filling theaters at the moment. I just think there are some very vocal people on this board that have nothing better to do than focus on this break-up, blame it all on Hooky and sit starry eyed over Barney... its all a bit ridiculous.
