The double best of LP is currently down at £15.99 which suggests a more reasonable pricing strategy!

Would be surprised if it's anything but a std reissue which if the 'Best of' is anything to go by, it'll be on sale eventually if willing to wait. £47.99 does sound pricey although HMV are usually overpriced.

A green coloured vinyl for RTP would be rather nice!

It’s good news that TT finally gets a vinyl pressing, but the cost!! Wow that is ridiculous

Both got a release date of 22 August, Pressed on recycled 2LP black vinyl - £32.99. Obligatory T-shirts to accompany the release as well but rather basic, quite like the blue one though. A coloured version for RSD 26 would be rather nice please!

They have arrived!

"Raise The Pressure" sounds great so far.

"Twisted Tenderness" is a nice gatefold.

Yeah, lovely.

Edit: it's only when listening on vinyl you realise what a step down RTP is from their debut. The inability to easily skip tracks really shows up the album's lack of quality. The remastering though is lovely and the vinyl has no pops or anything.

Fully agree. However...a few years ago I made a re-sequenced album in playlist that essentially took out the "skippable" tracks and replaced them with a couple of the b-sides and found that the quality GREATLY improved, and it went from one of my least-listened to NO related albums to one of my most. Of course it's the more guitar based tracks that I removed as I was trying to better capture the vibe of the first album. When I tried to make a Forbidden City EP out of the leftovers...well, not great. Here the tracklisting...YMMV:

1. Imitation of Life
2. I Feel Alright
3. If You've Got Love
4. Dark Angel
5. Interlude
6. Freefall
7. Second Nature
8. Until the End of Time
9. How Long

Nine songs, 44 Minutes

When I put these in a playlist with the more electronic/upbeat tracks from the first album and Republic on shuffle I can better feel the throughlines and can listen all day. Feels and sounds more like a distinct era to me.

Brutal. I still would have Forbidden City & For You on there. But Imitation of Life, yes. In my mind it always follows Forbidden City as on the CD single. And How Long is just such a fantastic track it should be heralded more.

Johnny's last album is more "Electronic" than this.

Now playing "Twisted Tenderness". Think it's aged a bit better than RTP's rinky dink piano but it's still not entirely satisfactory. Forgot how prominent Bernard's speech impediment is on this album. "Sad Wefwain" indeed.

Great vinyl mastering though.

I should clarify how much I love those songs independently (and together), but felt like they stood out a little too much for the synth based vibe I was going for. That's why I tried to put a more guitar based EP together, but just didn't like New Religion, One Day, Out of My League all together.

I am rather excited that my copies shipped from Elusive Disc in the US yesterday (21 August). Only $77 for the pair including shipping. Their packaging is usually rock solid as well, much better than Rhino/Warners.

So the verdict is....

....these are really nice sounding remasters. I would argue that "Raise The Pressure" suffers from being split over 4 sides. Side three being so short really breaks the flow, and to be honest they might have been better off adding "Imitation Of Life" to the tracklisting to pad it out a bit. As I said in the earlier post, being forced to listen to the album without the ability to skip really does show up the lack of quality songs on the album. But those that are good shine brightly.

"Twisted Tenderness" was to me always the least enjoyable of the three, but actually this vinyl remaster shines, and it flows really well with 3 tracks per side. Bernard's vocal flaws aside, it's a solid album. I'd now put it on par with "RTP" - never quite reaching it's predecessor's peaks ("Forbidden City", "How Long", "Dark Angel" and "Second Nature" in my opinion) but more consistent over it's duration. Side 1 sounds particularly beefy whacked up in volume.

Packaging is nice. Probably a bit overpriced - maybe wait if you haven't dived in already and see if there's a sale - and a shame there's no coloured vinyl but it's nice to have all the albums finally in the collection.
