Ah, this was BBC Radio 2 listeners in particular, as per
this BBC link.Oh, and I've found a tweet:
Mind you, NO are in the "Radio 2 demographic" these days (age, eh?), and they appear to have been further down the list (position not given).
As per the BBC link.
Quote:An additional show, Your Ultimate British Group: The Extras, is now available in the BBC Sounds collection, which will feature (in no particular order) the bands voted in chart position numbers 30-54.
Here's the show + tracklisting on
BBC Sounds. And track 1 is...
The main Top 30 show (if anyone cares) is on BBC Sounds
here.
I guess with the exception of a couple of "big" hits, NO have never really been mainstream. I've always considered them to be an indie band, so I would expect them to be on the kind of chart that includes Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine and Jesus & Mary Chain, for example. None of those artists are mentioned here.
Any chart that includes Take That, Girls Aloud and the Spice Girls needs a large pinch of salt. These aren't real bands; they're manufactured teen-sploitation bands, IMHO.
