I'm listening this album right now. Reissued /remastered in 2010, 2020, I think there's nothing to remaster /reissue again. I will get easily this Innocence new edit and will not buy this CD for the 4th time...

Got an email yesterday that my bundle has shipped - Vinyl, CD, "Selfish" t-shirt, and the little fortune teller "Tasty Fish." Lets see how long it takes to get to San Francisco.

I probably didn’t notice this on pre-order but, nonetheless, I was a little disappointed that the CD is in a card sleeve rather than a proper CD case.

I haven't been able to buy a CD in an old school jewel case in quite some time. The slim digisleeves, or digipak (if you're lucky) appear to be the norm now.

I think it's to do with "saving the planet" I.e., less plastic but they're difficult to store and very easily prone to bending/scuffing. So for the average music fan looking to store it in a consistent manner on a shelf, it's a 'mare.

The more substantial digipaks I don't mind as much because they usually store 2-3 CDs and a booklet, but a single CD album in a digisleeve feels really cheap IMO.

I've heard the new TOT&Y reissue and it's probably the best "modern" remaster of the album. The 2010 LTM/Fac Benelux version was pretty brick walled, but this new one is gentler on the ears.

Trainspotter alert: Innocence Love To Infinity aside, the 2024 Selfish is actually the Qwest promo cassette mix. The remaining tracks appear to match their 1993 counterparts.

While they were tweaking the running order, they should have gone the whole hog and dropped in the 7" Pascal Mix of Tasty Fish as track 1.

It's a shame really. The photos on the sleeve and inner are quite nice, but it just feels quite cheap.
A booklet would've been nice.

Good to know re the remastering. Haven't had chance to play it yet.

Hmmm - very interesting that the Promo version of Selfish is included. Makes me wonder if that mix was originally intended and the version we got officially was due to the wrong master being selected.
Alternatively, maybe they picked up the wrong master this time.
Maybe they just thought the original mix sounded better.

How about Ninth Configuration? I'm guessing that they haven't restored the 'Get Carter' quotes that they had to excise from the official release but were on th promo.

To be honest, although the Selfish/Innocence changes are minor, it does irk me a little bit that they didn't keep things as they were originally released.
If they wanted to show off different mixes, maybe have these as additional bonus tracks ; just like the LTM ones did.

I guess they wanted to keep the LP/CD in sync and also wanted to keep the flow of the album, without adding too much bonus stuff.

That's what I thought too. Either the 4:09 "7 Inch Mix" made it onto the original 1993 album by mistake or this time around they felt this promo mix was more representative of what they originally wanted for the track.

The drums do sound a bit more direct on the promo version and the keyboards are less prominent, I actually think I prefer it. The "7 Inch Mix" is a bit more busy with loads of string keyboards from the off, plus the drums are lower in the mix.

I did check quickly that once I realised I was listening to the Qwest promo Selfish on my Hi-res copy. The 2024 remaster of Ninth Configuration has no samples... so the same as 1993's mix.

The London Records-era album version is 4:09 and the new 2024 remaster is 3:47. If you have the FLAC rip of the tape doing the rounds a good decade or so ago, the versions match. It's just been remastered.

I'll update Discogs when I get a minute.

Thanks for the confirmation, NotAMod.

£50note - as far as we can tell the only differences between the promo LP and the official 1993 release were the different mix of Selfish and a version of Ninth Configuration which is practically the same mix but had sound clips from the film 'Get Carter' (the 1971 Caine original, not the remake). Presumably a non-sampled version was swapped in when they either couldn't get clearance from the copyright holders or maybe they just thought it wasn't worth 'jumping through hoops' to get the samples cleared.

Both tracks were a surprise to me when I heard them for the first time a couple of years ago.

PM sent.

I wonder whether the Qwest Advance Promo Tape is exactly the same as the ultra-rare Factory Records pressing of the LP. It's always possible that there were slight differences between the two. Considering how rare the Factory one is, I guess we'll probably never know.

Got my delivery in San Francisco today, so 7 days after mailing from the UK. Not bad! Love the new artwork for the vinyl and CD. Love that the fortune teller fish is branded as The Other Two with a colorful little card, and got the Selfish t-shirt. Will give it a wash before I wear it out.

There's a new feature on them on this month's Classic Pop:

I hope they get more than two pages, but I'll try to import it anyway as they're my favourite side project.
