Ok i've ranted and rambled a bit there. But yeah, there yer go .

Pretty frustrating.

I’ve never been sure exactly where companies like the Beeb draw the line with copyright infringement. One YouTuber I follow uploads loads of TOTP appearances daily (not a criticism; I love what he’s doing). You’d think he’d get hit with strikes all the time.

I know what you mean about people criticising quality. I’ve had a few of those myself on my channel. I try to explain in the description that these were taken from nth generation copies, recorded on thirty year old VHS tapes… but you still get a-holes criticising.

It’s funny, a few days before the recent appearance of Keanu on US TV proclaiming his love for LWTUA, I’d read somewhere else that he was a fan. However, I can’t remember where this was and in what context. Does anyone know if this love for the band is new or has he been saying for years that he’s a fan?

I suppose it doesn’t really matter, but I’d like to think that he’d been a fan for years.
He seems like a really decent guy.
I always think of him as ‘Ted’, so seems a little strange and wacky thinking of a teen Keanu, sitting in his bedroom, listening to Unknown Pleasures, rather than Van Halen.

You're probably correct regarding his tastes as a teen, but he is 57 years old now. He probably picked up on Joy Division a bit later. I saw his band, Dogstar, perform back in the mid-nineties, and they were trying to be something more than a standard rock band. Not that I recall liking them...

That's pretty cool.

I'm still discovering great bands from 40 years ago that I missed first time around. No reason why he shouldn't do the same.
After all, it doesn't matter when you got to like JD/NO. It only matters that you do! Smile

Here's something interesting.

There's a guy who's posted episodes of Channel 4's 'The Tube' to YouTube in recent weeks.
These appear to be 'unedited rushes' of the episodes (together with time clocks etc.), so contain more footage than the standard episodes.

This means that, in respect of the 21/03/86 appearance by New Order, we actually have some additional footage than what was broadcast.
Don't get too excited; it's just an extra minute of 'Broken Promise' after the credits roll and the 'Tyne Tees' logo appears. Weirdly, the track still isn't complete.

Nothing Earth-shattering, but it is 'technically' previously unseen TV footage of the band in action from their golden period.

So if you fancy seeing an extra 60 seconds of Bernard's splendid yellow jumper, here you go:

Also, if you're interested, the complete episode that was broadcast from The Haçienda on 27/01/84 has been uploaded, including the Wilson, Morley, Hook interview and Bernard's appearance as part of the Factory All-Stars. Note, if you're desperate to see Madonna gyrate and mime in her 'legendary first UK performance' Uh oh, that's included too:

Finally, there's another New Order related item at around 22 minutes on this show (23/12/83). It's an interview with Arthur Baker and includes the 'Confusion' video. Most of the rest of the episode is based around New York nightlife, I think.

Interesting to see that extra bit of Broken Promises on The Tube , thanks.

I always had a distant foggy memory of seeing Arthur Baker being interviewed on The Tube and the Confusion video being shown and would probably have been the first time i saw the vid, thanks for that.So that was the episode i'd seen way back then.

Was good to finally get the Arthur Baker interview, as I'd been after that for years.
I managed to snag an 'audio only' version of it a couple of months back, but always nice to see the big man in the flesh. Legend!

He was interviewed on 'The Tube' again on 13/2/87 (which is also on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/...h?v=g8EPYfVjKjI&t=7s), but there isn't really anything New Order related in that interview, apart from a brief name-check.

I love that stuff like this keeps cropping up on the 'net from time to time.

Agreed.

It might be that they're textured in a way that's not particularly visible in photographs, but catches the light when viewed in 'real world' circumstances.

But, yeah, they look pretty 'subtle' in those photos.

Anyone seen House of Gucci?

Good cast and directed by Ridley Scott. Long at 2hrs38 and it felt every minute of it.
A bit too "soap opera" for my tastes, but a good looking film and it had some decent artists on the soundtrack, including:

Eurythmics
Donna Summer (I counted 4 tracks)
Black Machine (I bet you remember How Gee even if you don't think you do.)
Blondie
Bowie
And during a 1983 Milan catwalk show, a track by NO. NO prizes for guessing which track.

Handwritten lyrics by Joy Division's Ian Curtis and items from Granada TV's history are among the first objects in a new British Pop Archive.

A set of Curtis's lyrics, notebooks and letters is in the collection with the entire archive of Granada, which made shows like Coronation Street.

The British Pop Archive will be housed in Manchester's John Rylands Library.

Not strictly NO spotting but they got a mention on the radio the other day.David Walliams on Radio 2 last week on Zoe Ball's breakfast show ( no i'm not a fan of it but it was on at work).Walliams talked about when on the very first night of the stage show version of Little Britain back in 2005 New Order, The Pet Shop Boys and Johnny Marr all came to see the first show of the tour. This, Walliams said made him a little nervous as members of his 3 favourite bands ever were in the audience on the first night.Never had David Walliams down as a big New Order fan but hey, it seems he is.

Melanie Williams is clearly talented, but it's just not to my taste.

Two of her contributions to The Other Two Super Highways album were chosesn as the singles (You Can Fly and Super Highways) and I thought they sounded a bit awkward and generic. Cold Feet, One Last Kiss (the best of her collaborations with them) and Ripple are the ones I'd have gone with.
