Watched that recent great BBC series on Andy Warhol and was just wondering if the band ever met him on one of their trips to New York in the 80s before Warhol died in 1987.Probably not and anyway there would have been accounts of it long ago.Just think it'd be funny to imagine them meeting. I wonder if Warhol was ever aware of Peter Saville's art and what he made of it.

In the imagined meeting the introducing guy would have said "Andy, this is a band called New Order from Manchester, England..." and Warhol would have just stood silently, big shades and wig, running his finger along his lower lip, not saying anythingLaugh

I've never heard of them meeting him. I suppose it is possible though.
It seems quite likely that Ruth Polsky may well have met Warhol. She might've been in the position to introduce them.

As you mention though, there'd probably be accounts of it though (especially in either Steve or Hooky's books), so seems unlikely.
You could always tweet Steve the question. He might answer.

I remember hearing an interview with Tony and he said that they either weren't aware of Warhol's Factory, or didn't really think about, it when they named the original club.
That's the only time I've ever seen or heard reference to Warhol when talking about the band, I think.

It's difficult to know whether he would've been aware of Saville. Quite possibly, given his background. He was also dabbling in New Wave music towards the end of his life (he directed a Cars video in 1984 etc.).
I think, if Warhol was alive today, he'd certainly be aware of it, considering how much of it you see these days. But, back in the early to mid-80s, living in New York, he might not have been exposed to much Saville. A shame.

It's an interesting idea certainly.

In some ways it’s also quite neo-Warhol. And before he’d even seen the [Technique] sleeve Rob Gretton suggested ‘Peter Saville’s New Order’ as the title of the album. As in ‘Andy Warhol’s Velvet Underground’. That went down like a lead balloon with the band

An indirect 'meeting'?

Hey - we've all done it. In fact, a couple of my recent posts were made whilst I was half-cut.

No apologies necessary though. It's a good question.
