I've never heard of them meeting him. I suppose it is possible though.
It seems quite likely that Ruth Polsky may well have met Warhol. She might've been in the position to introduce them.
As you mention though, there'd probably be accounts of it though (especially in either Steve or Hooky's books), so seems unlikely.
You could always tweet Steve the question. He might answer.
I remember hearing an interview with Tony and he said that they either weren't aware of Warhol's Factory, or didn't really think about, it when they named the original club.
That's the only time I've ever seen or heard reference to Warhol when talking about the band, I think.
It's difficult to know whether he would've been aware of Saville. Quite possibly, given his background. He was also dabbling in New Wave music towards the end of his life (he directed a Cars video in 1984 etc.).
I think, if Warhol was alive today, he'd certainly be aware of it, considering how much of it you see these days. But, back in the early to mid-80s, living in New York, he might not have been exposed to much Saville. A shame.
