It seems like Andy Serkis actually managed to get the song in the film, after all:

Yes it was Dick or "Richard McCourt" as he was called on the night. I believe he was spotted at the Troxy gig back in 2011.
And this explains why Hooky had a tweet from Dick N Dom a while ago asking for a follow-back and a DM.

I get the feeling that the celebrity version of Mastermind is a bit easier than the regular one.
Those with access to BBC iplayer can watch the New Order bit at 6mins 15secs HERE.
I believe 12 questions were asked. Dick got 7, I got ten. But yeah it probably is harder when John Humphries has you in the spotlight.

For those who can't watch it, the questions were:

1) which song released in '83 is the highest selling 12" of all time?
2) In Sept 2017 NO reached a settlement with which former member?
3) Which album had the number FACT 100?
4) The PCL sleeve depicts which flowers?
5) Which Peel Session song wasn't written by NO?
6) Which 1989 album was the first by NO to top the UK album charts? (the year alone provides the answer!)
7) Which Top 5 hit has the lyric "I would like a place I can call my own, have a conversation on the telephone"?
8) Who joined the remaining members of JD to form NO?
9) At which venue did NO play their first London gig in Feb 1981?
10) Which song reached the top ten in the singles chart twice - in 1987 and (remixed) in 1994?
11) World in Motion was co-written with which English comedian?
12) In December '88 NO played the G-Mex supported by ACR and which other Factory band?

Remember this?

It's on YouTube.

The only reason I've dug it up is because I noticed the mask in this tweet:

Exciting times on the forum at the moment eh?

PS: I don't know where Dick got his mask, but you can get JD masks from Red Bubble, Etsy and Wish, if that floats your boat.
New (Nu) variant B.1.1.529 incoming; I predict lots of masking-up again.
PPS: Insert your own Transmission or Isolation jokes here.

Watched the 2014 film The Equalizer starring Denzel Washington after seeing The Equalizer 2 last Saturday night. At the end of the last scene a cover of New Dawn Fades plays . Didn’t catch in the credits who it’s by. Not the Moby version.

I saw the film when it came out. I mentioned this at the time. There was a previous NO Spotting thread that disappeared (I'm guessing the previous thread- starter deleted the first post and the whole thread ceased to exist.) So I can't find it now.

But it is the Moby version.
If I remember correctly there's the "New Order" version with Moby on vocals, and there's also Moby's own version without NO.
I think this is the NO-less version of the song in the Equalizer.

Moby version:

NO featuring Moby (from a whole other film!):

^ Oh it is the Moby one? Dunno why but I thought it was someone else. I don’t quite know why the song was chosen to end the film. It had all got more optimistic and brighter with Denzel Washington’s character bumping into the girl from earlier in the film who had since turned her life around and all was good , then New Dawn Fades kicks in.

I think it's probably safe to say that Baddiel is a fan, based on this:

Found an old Interview magazine from the early 90s and this centerfold --- figured I would post it up because I haven't seen it online anywhere, seems a lost photo (maybe for good reason... )

^ Crikey , that’s some photos I’ve never seen before. It was some barbecue at Real World when they were recording Technique??? Edit: ah no, I read the bit again where it says it was when they were recording their 6th album , so that’d be Republic , then . So circa 92-93?

Bizarre Love Triangle was on Gideon Coe’s 6Music evening show on Thursday. Part of his shapes theme show (triangle being the link). Unremarkable except for the fact he played the Pettibone 7” . Not heard that version on the radio since maybe when the single was released in 1986. Usually it’s the album version that gets played.

A more complete version without Lauren yapping over the end. I can only guess Soulwax leaked this somewhere. It's not their official YT channel.

Presumably also to celebrate 'Blue Monday' today, the official 'Countdown' YouTube channel have just posted the band's 1983 appearance on the programme.

However, this appears to be a 'third take', i.e. different from the one that was broadcast on TV on 05/06/83 and also different from the one that appeared on the 'ReelingInTheYears' YouTube Channel a few years back (the one which included a false start and another go at the interview).

As far as I'm aware, the only other time this take was shown was a very short clip which appeared on 'Countdown' a few weeks later than the original broadcast.
I used to have this clip on my channel (in poor quality), but got a 'takedown' notice, so removed it.
Nice to finally get to see it (although it isn't much different from either of the other takes).

Here you go:

Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is Keanu Reeves’ favourite song

The Matrix actor was a guest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert earlier this week, and during his appearance he took part in the show’s ‘Colbert Questionert’ segment in which guests are asked a series of 15 questions designed to “penetrate the soul”.

Among the questions, Reeves was asked to pick one song to listen to for the rest of his life. After groaning and shaking his head a few times, he answered ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’, the 1980 Joy Division track that was released the month after frontman Ian Curtis‘ death.

Reeves was also asked to name his favourite movie (1975’s Roller Ball, starring James Caan), best sandwich (toasted crunchy peanut butter sandwiches with honey), and his favourite smell. “Today, I’m going pick my 1974 Norton Commando when the engine warms up,” he answered the latter. “When you’ve been giving a good go, the oil in the engine heats up, and the smell that comes off the engine is really good.”

His most amusing answer came when he shared an anecdote about asking his Bill & Ted co-star George Carlin for an autograph. “He wrote, ‘Dear Keanu, Fuck You,'” Reeves remembered. “I always thought he just wrote that for me, but then I met someone else who said that he wrote the same thing to them.”

You can watch Reeves answer Colbert’s questions below:

ManchesterEveningNews.co.uk put up a small collecton of Hacienda photos.

A couple of odd things: The caption to a photo of some famous faces ignores Tony Wilson, though his face is only slightly obscurred. Also, the picture of Madonna is actually from her Live Aid performance, I believe. It's definitely not her at the Hac.

Was just about to post the same thing. Weird, as the photos of her at The Haçienda are fairly well known and easily found. Unless there are rights issues to those photos, I guess?

Incidentally, I'm never too sure why news articles mention the whole 'Madonna at The Haçienda' thing, as if it's massively important. She would've appeared at some other club or TV studio eventually. It was hardly her 'big break' which set her on the road to stardom, was it? She was already heading for big things.

I guess she originally flew into Heathrow (or Gatwick, or Manchester), but I don't hear people saying that 'the first place Madonna visited in the UK was the baggage collection area at Heathrow Airport'. Big Grin It's a non-story.

Again, it is weird that they didn't list Tony on that photo. The only thing I can guess is that the person who was pulling together photos wasn't 100% sure it was Tony, so left him off, just in case it wasn't (after all he's wearing sunglasses, and is at least partially obscured).

Listened to the mix on YouTube. It's a fun mix.Great stuff.Interesting and novel concept mixing in parts of live versions.Or is it novel ? I don't actually know to be honest but it's novel to me.Live version spotting, i reckon one of them is from the BBC August 84 thing and one other is from TOTP 1983? Possibly one or two other live snippets in there also? Jury is out on the idea of including one or two interview snippets in the mix but the bank robbers bit from Countdown always makes me smile.

Quite enjoyed those old Hacienda pics Andy included the link to in another post, lot of photos i've never seen before.

Nope.I hadn't checked my email for sometime and it turned out YouTube had been sending me warnings about copyright infringement or whatever the legal term is. Three strikes or four, can't recall now but anyway i had missed the final warning and they removed my channel.Oh well!

Well the videos i'd uploaded that eventually spelt the end of my YouTube channel weren't actually music related.I'd been going through some old VHS tapes of mine last autumn and found some old BBC travel programmes i'd recorded around 1995-1996.One was a series called On The Road Again with a guy called Simon Dring (he passed away just last year) and it was him retracing the hippy trail to India that he'd first done back in the 60s.It was shown on BBC2 in 1995.The other was another travel programme, this time from 1996 on BBC2 with Alexei Sayle travelling through Jordan and stopping at Wadi Rum where Lawrence Of Arabia was filmed and also where many sci fi films of recent years were filmed like the recent remake of Dune and also many others like The Martian.I'd visited the place back in 1995 when i was backpacking. So i watched them again and transferred to digital on my laptop. I'd searched on YouTube to see if anyone had already uploaded them but couldn't find anything so I went ahead with them as i thought they may be of interest to some people out there. The fact that the programmes weren't already on YouTube should have i suppose alerted me that there's a copyright reason why they're not! lol. The email account that i registered my YouTube channel with was an account i tended to rarely check. So the warnings had been coming in but i hadn't seen them and somehow hadn't noticed at first that the videos had been removed .Eventually i saw the email telling me my account had been terminated because of constant copyright infringement.

To be honest i'd become a bit disillusioned anyway with uploading stuff to YouTube. There was a lot of nasty vicious comments on various clips about the video quality not being in HD "This isn't in HD you muppet!" and "Lol , look at the crap video quality this guy uploaded" and much worse.I'm guessing most of those people are twenty somethings who have grown up in a world where they don't know anything else than HD or 4K quality video. And also other stuff like people ripping my videos and then uploading them to their own channel and passing off the transferring and uploading work (and crap picture quality!) as their own.One example is an upload i'd done of a video to digital of the clip of Gillian on that Girl In A Band doc on BBC4 some years ago.Someone had it on their channel and the start and end point were exactly the same as my effort and the video quality and audio identical to mine. Can't prove it but i'm 99.99 certain it was ripped from my channel. And the same with some clips of Tame Impala on Jools Holland i'd transferred and uploaded some years ago.I guess that's the danger if you don't have a watermark on your videos but i never worked out how to do that.

Ok i've ranted and rambled a bit there. But yeah, there yer go .
