also, i like the typography on the 'subculture' UK 12 inch, even though theres no artwork.

and finally, the UK shellshock had an inner which extended the artwork of the cover, which
we didn't get in the US. also there was a US promo 12 inch, which had shellshock (DUB)
on the b-side, as opposed to the normal release which just had the 'thieves like us'
on it.

Way of Life is indeed the LP version, although the time listing is incorrect. It was sent to radio to try to generate continued interest in Brotherhood. Maybe the shorter duration is a typo, or perhaps it was intentional to make the track seem more radio friendly. I seriously doubt it was considered for release. Qwest had declined to release State of the Nation as a single, instead using it as an extra track on the Bizarre Love Triangle release. This had meant BLT was the only single released in the LP campaign. They'd done something similar with Touched by the Hand of God, passing on the release only for it to turn up as a b-side to Blue Monday 1988 a few months later. Stupid Americans.

Years later, the Electronic track Tighten Up had promos sent to radio. Like Way of Life, it wasn't meant to be a single, just a way to promote the LP via radio play to stations/people that might be more receptive to its more guitar based sound.

I have this promo - my Electronic collection is Second To None.

Well not quite, but it's decent.

Tighten Up is one of their harder promos to find, and contains a unique Single Edit.

If I recall, it's just an abbreviated intro and fade out finish.

well, i'm going through a japanese phase right now,

and i have some gaps in my collection. so i was seeing what i had.

i do have brotherhood CD on order. for some there are multiple japanese
copies, remasters, and reissues, not to mention promos. most are rather
expensive too. i don't have too many singles either, so will have to look out for those also:

Japan had long since shifted to CD-only by the time of Regret (for pretty much ALL artists, not only NO). The last New Order vinyl release was Technique, and even that one was pretty limited. None of the Technique-era singles got a vinyl release. Last 12" in Japan was BM 1988.

ok, almost 2 months later, i finally got it.

the first seller, said they had it, but then they couldn't find it,
and was going to get back to me in july when they were back in the country.

so i had to find a 2nd seller, and they did have it. there were 2 copies on ebay,
1 for $300, and 1 for $600, so i wasn't getting those.

a week ago, another seller had it for $100+ which is about right.
(although that one sold also)

anyways, comparisons pics part 1:

the us lp, upper left, the uk lp upper right
the metallic sleeve bottom center:

UserPostedImage
UserPostedImage
UserPostedImage

the uk and us sleeve match up pretty well (discounting the plastic wrap).

the metallic sleeve is definitely shinier and has real texture to it.

here is a comparison, with the metallic cd cover:

UserPostedImage
UserPostedImage
UserPostedImage

the cd metallic texture is also slightly different, but the same size, when placed on the LP.

but it was definitely a different run, and a slightly different texture, and printing method.

I was referring more to the end of the vinyl era as a viable mainstream physical medium, competing with cassettes and CDs. Of course there's been a vinyl resurgence recently capitalizing on the recent worldwide trend, but that's more of a collectors/DJ/nostalgia thing.

Got a few promos from that era... I still think the radio edits of Restless and Tutti Frutti are the best "structured" versions

There were also digital promos, mostly of instrumentals of the album tracks and remixes from the singles. Most of them unreleased physically

Looks like I had a copy of this hidden away in a folder on one of my hard-drives. I had literally no idea it was there.
Not sure who ripped it, but it wasn't me.

I've uploaded both a FLAC and m4a version of this rarity, if anyone is interested.
Grab it quickly, as the link will expire in a week or so.
There's some crackling from the vinyl but it sounds like a pretty decent rip:

Not sure what the differences between this and the UK promo 7" are, or why a separate edit was deemed necessary by Rough Trade.

It just fades out about 30 seconds earlier on the Rough Trade 7". As you suggest, makes you wonder why they went to the bother of shortening it.

Apparently it's the mix he first submitted for The Rest of... but Bernard felt the vocals were "too upfront". So Dave did another mix and reversed them. Bernard was amused enough to include that mix on the double vinyl version.

I'd actually forgot about it but I still have my copy of the Dave Clarke collection.

This BLT promo came to my attention:

https://www.discogs.com/...er-Bizarre-Love-Triangle

According to Discogs, it's an official test pressing from 1995. After the '94 US CD-single re-release in order to promote (the best of?) NewOrder, which US edition only came out in '95?

A mate sent me a very good rip of the Shep's 12" alternate mix, which is pretty bad. Kind of a sloppy Razormaid re-edit of the regular remix. PM me if you're interested.

Razormaid is horrible and Shep's 12" loses Hooky, so maybe not. I know I've said this before, but Stephen Hague's take would be purrfick if he hadn't cut out half the second instrumental break. Duh!

Regarding TPK, I've had this promo for many years now... tried to rip it like 18+ years ago, and the results were beyond embarrassing. If anyone has a decent rip of this edit of Kiss of Death, I'd appreciate it a lot Wink
