Bands go were Promoters will pay the fees and meet their demands. Bands get paid regardless of ticket sales. A big reason my city miss so many concerts

Atlanta has a ton of venues -- outside and inside. Duran, Cure, Morrissey, and even OMD came through here last time. Not sure why we get the N.O. shaft. Since the '98 reunion they have not played here. Hooky came through w/MONACO in early 90's. Closest I've been to N.O.

That is, until Dallas this Oct.

And yes, U.S.A. is a big place, and obviously not easy for anyone - even the band - to make themselves available to everyone, everywhere.
...in a single breath, this world is gone...

Its better policy to do the main american hubs for a week or 5 days than a major city tour of the entire country. Travelling even by plane these days sucks the energy out of you and you'd get far better value for money by seeing a relaxed band with all the gear set up for more than one night than a well travelled band who play in your backyard.

Isn't it an incredible cash sink though? In the end a smaller number of fans spend more money on transport, accomodation and everything else but the tickets.

Yeah i suppose the band in question would need to be shit hot these days to attract people to travel to gigs but doing a residency in a venue for a week when its done well can be both great value for the fans and economically valuable for the bands.

People still talk about the 16 odd nights the clash did in bonds new york and it would be hard to imagine how 16 or 17 gigs in small cities and towns in america could have the same effect or indeed produce a great show.

I'm in Atlanta to and was really hoping that they would play here. We have great venues large and small, not to mention Music Midtown which is coming up....And I bet six flags would still be available. Big Grin

If you want to talk about being a major area we have the worlds busiest airport...
