I’ll go for the x2 clear vinyl and the CD. Not fussed about the tee. August though eh? That’s a few weeks short of a year since the single was first released ( to streaming) . Talk about stringing 1 (one) song out.

I was reading the following Twitter thread this morning, which had input from some labels, talking about a current lead time of around 4-8 months on vinyl production here in the UK at the moment, which might explain the August release date:

https://twitter.com/dada_drummer/status/1389383977111281670?s=19

Doesn't bode well for the 'Low-life' boxed set coming out in 2021, even if the current and former band members can all agree the content speedily.

Yeah, I couldn't be arsed this time around. One year and yet another live DVD on is extracting the urine. And after the 1993 - 1995 experience... Mind you, I'll probably check out Arthur Baker. His 1963 is actually more NOesque than the original.

Cheers for the heads up on this everyone.

I've ordered the CD single.

Nice that pretty much every mix is on it. Was thinking that a few would get missed off.

Well there’s a second remix by Mark Reeder - The Cheeky Devil mix that doesn’t appear to have made it to the CD or vinyl unless I’ve missed it. The Dirty Devil mix has made it but not the Cheeky Devil mix.So technically not all the official mixes. Unless the Cheeky Devil mix is not classed as official?

I guess if there's no 'Low-life' set this year, this 2 x 12" + CD single release can count as 'Be A Rebel (Definitive Edition)'...

All the remixers will have variations and other attempts that won't be released, Mark is putting it out himself I think.
There will also be instrumentals of all of them, which may find their way out digitally.

I have listened to every mix of this song, from the original through all the remixes, and I just don't see the point of any of them aside from the Maceo Plex mix. The rest of them just move around the various elements, and don't really improve on what started off sounding like a Bad Lieutenant one-off. I had hopes (misplaced given his post 86 work with the band) for the Arthur Baker version. But at least the Plex mix is interesting and goes in some different more experimental directions. I wasn't familiar with him but checked out his stuff after listening to his version of BAR--quite liked "Cinemax" and could envision an alternate reality where NO was more electronically experimental again. But then maybe we wouldn't have Tutti Fruti which is my favorite track since Technique and one of my top ten in general. Can't wait for the next proper full length. Go City

Speaking of what Be A Rebel sounds like...
Way back in 1989 I remember thinking that Run sounded like John Demver. I had been subjected to his greatest hits in the family car from about the age of 11, so was very familiar with (some of) his stuff. I think I must be the only NO fan who wasn't surprised when legal action followed.

In one of Hooky's instagram chats he said there are teams of people who check simlarities for songs. Anf there's a rule that if there's somethibg like 7 or more notes out of every 12 that are the same, then there's a case for plagiarism.

Anyway I haven't counted the notes, but I think Be A Rebel sounds like this Coldplay song. Really quite a lot.

Ordered the x2 12”. From what I could work out , the CD has versions that I already have and/or will have once I have the x2 12” so didn't order the CD. The x2 12” comes with a download code of all the tracks featured on the two vinyl according to the blurb. Couldn’t log into my Mute account and when prompted to reset my password it wouldn’t rec my my email . Gave up and ordered from the nasty Amazon.

My CD arrived today.

Pretty nice packaging. Triple gatefold sleeve. Silver cover sticker.

It's 'oversized', being about 1/3rd more than the average CD single case. Which is nice to look at, but will be annoying to store (won't fit a CD rack).

It also came with a separate Mute logo silver sticker, which was nice.
I've said it before, but I'm glad that New Order are on Mute now. No, they're not Factory, but they're the next best thing.

Haven't played the CD yet. To be honest, I bought it because of compulsion to buy NO items. I can't see me ever playing all the mixes back to back.
Still, a nice item to have.

F&ck I forgot about this. CD single time!
So Mute Bank at £10.00 seems to be the cheapest in the UK, but then there's £3.49 postage.
Bleep.com at £10.50 is pretty close. Maybe they have cheaper postage than Mute? Anyone know? You have to register, and boy am I sick of registering with companies on the internet...

A couple of the previously unheard remixes. I imagine these videos will be playable after midnight in whatever time zone you are in. If you're in New Zealand, that might be now.

JakoJako remix

I got mine from Mute. £13.49 inc. postage.

Amazon.co.uk have it for £11.99 and I guess you can opt for free postage, either through Prime, or by waiting a couple more days (do Amazon still do that - free postage if you're prepared to wait longer?).

BTW, in case anyone is interested, the 'Paul Woolford Remix New Order Edit' on the CD is different from the 'Paul Woolford Remix Edit' that was on the digital 'Remixes, Part 1' release.

6:41 on the CD, 4:07 on the digital release. Not sure what the differences are though, as still ain't listened to it yet.

Also, the two Bernard Renegade mixes appear to be the 'newer' versions (as expected), rather than the older version on the original 12".

<<<TRAINSPOTTER ALERT!>>>

So, by my reckoning then, there are currently four remixes that are not on the CD:

Bernard's Renegade Mix (Vinyl version) 6:34
Bernard's Renegade Instrumental (Vinyl version) 6:35
Paul Woolford Remix Edit (4:07)
Maceo Plex Edit (5:26)

I actually very much like the JakoJako and Melawati remixes. Melawati's Has a Burial and Bicep dark electro feel, and JakoJako's remix reminds me of early 'Selected Ambient Works 85-92' era Aphex Twin. Not likely to appeal to those who prefer New Order remixes to retain the structure and content of the original songs, but these break up the endless other remixes quite well on the CD and 2 x 12".

How have you heard em already? VPN?

*EDIT* D'oh that was a silly question; you probably just received the remixes in the post today/Thursday like Perspex Orange did.
Well, actually today has just turned Friday now, so the videos I embedded a few posts above can indeed now be played.

These two previously unheard remixes are certainly very 21st Century.

JakoJako's has a nice sort of surging moodiness to it, using bits of the original guitar with subtle hints of acid. I think this might be refered to as "vibes". It does kinda feel like an edit though, I thought it would be longer and eh, go further.

Melawati's remix really chops up the vocal. It also seems to pitch Bernard's voice down so that he sounds uncannily like Damon Albarn. The repeated use of "take a look at yourself" again and again does start to jar for me. In fact the only other line used is "and I want to know". But yes I can hear the Burial/Bicep type production.

JakoJako's mix probably appeals to me more out of thee two; it's too bad it isn't longer. Incidentally I'm liking some of her other productions too. And as a bonus, she's kinda easy on the eye (cheesy comment alert).

As for CD Prices (in the UK) I came up with:

Amazon: 11.99 + 3.99 = £15.98 Total (can't find cheaper postage unless I sign up to Prime)
Mute: 10.00 + 3.49 = £13.49 Total
Piccadilly 10.99 + 1.66 = £12.65 Total
Norman Records 10.50 + 4.99 = £15.49
Bleep 10.49 + 2.09 = £12.55
Drift: 10.99 + 1.50 = 12.49 Total

I went for Picadilly Records - not quite the cheapest option but they've been good before, and only a few pennies more than Drift (who?) and Bleep.

Amazon the buggers tried to deliver today afterall, not next Wednesday. Alas, I wasn’t home and anyway I thought I’d selected delivery to an Amazon locker, not my houseConfused . Clicked the AutoRip link in the email in the end and downloaded to the Amazon Music app. Guess they’ll try again tomorrow to deliver the vinyl. Who knows.

Quick run through the mixes that were previously unreleased. Not sure on first listen. Will give em more time over the weekend.
