RIP Harold Budd. Died aged 84 from Covid related last week. First became aware of him in the 80s when he collaborated with Cocteau Twins on the Moon And The Melodies album. He’s done a few albums since with Cocteaus guitarist Robin Guthrie. Budd’s stuff had a distinctive lazy woozy piano sound, drift away. Very calming sound, did a lot of stuff with Brian Eno. Listening to a lot of his stuff today and his collaboration albums with Eno.

I may be in the minority, but I think this is the greatest music ever recorded. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Qd6_1iDy9ZM

Listening to a lot of Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie’s collaborative albums lately. Chilled out calming stuff for dark times.

Cocteau Twins’ 1988 album Blue Bell Knoll. For years this was probably my least favourite Cocteaus album. Now I love it.Maybe even more than Heaven Or Las Vegas which I probably played too much over the years and tired of . Once I got my head round Blue Bell Knoll the melodies are very very clever and intricate.

How do you spot a Lennon obsessive? He buys Yoko albums. How do you spot a real Lennon obsessive? He listens to the fuckers.

When the Beatles played Shea Stadium, Paul had 20,000 hysterical girls scream his name. That's more than me.

Anyone been watching the new Adam Curtis series on iPlayer? Great tunes as usual from the likes of Aphex Twin , Burial and many many more including some great stuff by This Mortal Coil from their 1991 album Blood. This tune played towards the end of the final episode , accompanied by the most bizarre fractal video featuring dogs! So bonkers. At first I thought I know the tune and that it was by Noah And The Whale but on Shazaming it turns out it’s Song For Zula by Phosphorescent.Lovely stuff. ^ Yep I totally get you on many of those points. I agree. Not sure I’ve picked up on the Enigma one but I will look out for it when I next listen. Yep, agreed some world music/tribal vocals on some tunes.
Definitely some hints of FSOL in one or maybe two places. Reminds me of that kind of a Egyptian vocal sample on FSOL’s ISDN “live” album in the mid 90s.
Yeah, the restrained cool thing. Not sure if you meant the mixmag thing (which I haven’t heard) or their studio albums or all of the above ,but yeah I think l get what you mean like they need to let rip a bit more.
I think it was Alex Petridis’ review he was putting the new album up there with 90s classics like Leftism.Hmmm...I wouldn’t say it’s quite up there with that one.
I see their probably most well known tune, Glue, will now be even more well known as it’s the music for a new BMW ad.

☝️ Funny, I always assumed that the track below was Bicep's best known tune. Released in 2015. It was certainly the one that got me into them. But looking at the YouTube hits for 2017's Glue (20m) rather than the 3m hits for Just, it seem you're right. I think Just is a much better track though.

^ Funnily enough I was checking out that remix just the other night. It’s ok but I still much favour the version Chromatics play in the bar scene in one of the episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return.Think it may been at the end of episode one but not sure without digging out the DVD again.
